Welcome to Enhancing Recovery Part 2.

I'm Dr.

Lynn Brown.

Today's topic is Mindful Living Affirmations.

Here are 9 affirmations that can help you as you go through this process.

There are no irrational acts.

This means that you have a reason for everything you do and say.

When you find yourself feeling uncomfortable about a behavior,

Ask yourself this question.

What explanation will make this a reasonable act?

By answering this question,

You will be determining why you made the choice you did.

Then it's up to you to determine whether or not you want to keep the idea,

The belief,

That made that behavior rational.

If you do,

You don't have a problem.

If you don't want to keep that idea,

Change it.

Changing it will result in a different behavior.

2.

Don't confuse an event with your interpretation of it.

Life is just one thing,

One event after another.

You place whatever meaning you want on anything.

This frees you from having your past be your future unless you want it to be.

You can interpret an event as stressful or not and choose your response,

Drinking or not,

To it.

Begin separating yourself from the events in your life.

This will help you decide how to interpret them and what behaviors will follow.

3.

There is no order of difficulty to problems.

We decide what problems are more difficult than others,

And this is arbitrary on our part.

Learning how to live a sober life doesn't have to be perceived as more or less difficult than any other challenge that comes your way.

4.

Everything starts as an idea.

Nothing is set in stone.

Nothing even means anything.

So every behavior you exhibit is a result of an idea you have about something.

If you are not pleased with the behavior,

Examine the belief,

The idea.

You have control over your ideas.

Begin choosing your ideas.

You'll probably be much happier with the resulting behaviors.

5.

Life evolves only in moments.

There is nothing other than right now,

This moment.

A minute ago no longer exists and a minute from now has yet to be created.

Therefore all you need to handle is right now,

This moment.

So the only choice you ever have to make is the one for this moment.

You don't have to concern yourself about how you will handle sobriety next Tuesday evening.

All that matters is that you make a personally appropriate choice right now.

6.

Every moment is an opportunity to recreate your life.

Since life evolves only in moments,

Each moment is a chance to start again.

You have thousands of thoughts each day and each time you begin a thought you have the opportunity to change it.

You can decide to take your life down another path.

This is an incredible power and it is yours.

7.

Do what you know is personally appropriate.

It doesn't matter what others think,

Do or say.

The only opinion that matters when it comes to you and your sobriety is the opinion you believe is personally appropriate for you and whom you see yourself as being.

Never forget this,

Always act on it.

8.

Always move towards something,

Never away from something.

Running away doesn't take you anywhere because you have nowhere to go.

If you move away from something without a new destination,

You will inevitably end up where you started.

This is because it is the only place you know to go.

So,

Always have somewhere to go.

Move toward a particular destination,

A goal,

And you will automatically move away from what was.

9.

Remember you always have options.

You are never without the freedom of choice.

It may seem at times like you have no options,

But this is false.

You always have options.

When making decisions,

Take the time to review as many options as you can think of before deciding what to do.

This will remind you of the fact that you really do always have options.

And you will feel freer and more powerful when you remember that your decisions are always yours to make.

Practice incorporating these affirmations into your life.

They will make a difference.
