Taking Responsibility for Your Weight Loss You'll succeed at losing weight and keeping it off only when you accept responsibility for your own actions.

One of the main pitfalls is saying and acting on the words,

I can't.

If you say,

I can't,

Then you won't be able to.

Your brain takes in whatever's sent.

If an I can't message is accepted,

The brain has no reason to doubt it.

However,

This can work to your advantage.

If there is a change in the messages sent,

Then there will be a change in the resulting behaviors.

If positive messages are sent,

Positive behaviors will result.

So,

You are setting yourself up for failure by saying,

I can't.

The concept of choice is important.

By saying,

I won't,

You are choosing to not try at this time.

If you then later choose to try,

I will,

The possibility of I did comes to be.

And you can't get to I did starting at I can't.

Only by accepting the responsibility of choice is success an option.

Let's use snacking while watching television as an example.

Instead of saying,

I can't watch television without eating,

Say,

I won't watch television without eating.

This adds choice.

And I won't can be changed to,

I will watch television without eating.

Start setting yourself up for success.

Self-control through positive thinking works much better than willpower.

Interpret every success,

Regardless of how small it may be,

As proof that an I can't can become an I can,

I will,

I did.
