Surrounded by Food In our society,

Food seems to be available 24 hours a day.

We keep well-stocked refrigerators and some grocery stores are open around the clock.

It is even possible to eat at some restaurants at any hour,

Day or night.

It is our habit to take some food from the refrigerator at all times of day.

We eat at our desks at work,

In our cars,

And in front of the television.

With social functions,

Food is the center of attraction.

We would never consider inviting people to our home without serving something.

Because of this,

We can't make food or the reference to it go away.

But we can make some guidelines for ourselves regarding food.

And these guidelines are the result of determining what role we want food to play in our lives and what we feel is appropriate for ourselves.

Here are some issues you may want to consider.

First,

Determine how many times per day you want to eat.

Will it be three meals per day or are you a snacker who needs to interact with food more often?

If so,

Eat less but eat more frequently.

Second,

Think of the grocery store as a place where you go to buy only those food items you have determined are appropriate for you.

Don't use the grocery store as a place to browse.

Third,

Allow adequate time for eating so you will be satisfied.

And if you choose to eat at a fast food restaurant,

Be sure to decide in advance what you will order.

Don't bring food into your home that you feel is inappropriate.

Fourth,

Respect your needs regarding food just as you do your needs and other aspects of your life.

Fifth,

It is best to usually eat in what you have designated as a legitimate eating environment.

This way you will have less of a chance of finding yourself eating somewhere that seems to lead to inappropriate eating.

And sixth,

There are a lot of other things you can make a priority in your life other than food.

Find some and do them.

You can enjoy the company of others at social functions,

Concentrate on your job at work and spend time communicating with your family at home.
