In Neurolinguistic Programming,
NLP,
We call these words should,
Must do,
Need to,
Have to,
Can't,
Shouldn't.
We call these model operators.
We have many different types of model operators and these are very common words that can come up when negative self-talk arises.
Have you ever thought to yourself,
Oh I should do this,
Or I have to do this,
Or I need to do this,
Or I must do this,
Or I can't do this,
I shouldn't do this.
These are common phrases that virtually every single human being has thought at some point.
The thing is,
The more that we use these model operators,
The more we use these words,
We compile on the pressure to ourselves.
We're limiting ourselves and putting on extra stress and strain,
Thinking that we have to do things in order to feel loved,
Safe and accepted in life.
Many years ago,
I used to get curious after I experienced different physical symptoms,
Going to the doctors not getting any answers.
What was I thinking about just before those symptoms arose?
And 99.
9% of the time,
There was a should.
I was piling on so much pressure to myself and my body was feeling it.
The mind and body are deeply connected.
We know this through science.
Quantum physics shows this time and time and time again.
And not to say that all physical symptoms are related to this,
Of course not,
And seeing our doctor is important,
Though noticing the impact of how we talk to ourselves is really valuable.
To become aware of how these model operators,
These words can increase stress and pressure.
And if we want greater sense of well-being,
Then it can be a really useful thing to start rewriting the story.
So what I did is I would simply trace back my thoughts and repeat whatever I had thought about again in my head,
Though changing the words,
Changing them to different words that created more possibility and empowerment.
So notice how differently you feel when you hear the following words.
Really tune into your body.
So when I speak these words out,
Notice what happens within your body.
I should.
I shouldn't.
I need to.
I have to.
I mustn't.
I can't.
I choose to.
I could.
I can.
I want to.
And the list goes on.
So notice with those words which ones felt more empowering and which ones felt more pressurizing.
For most people,
Hearing the word can't versus I can creates a very different feeling,
Or I shouldn't,
Or I should,
Compared to I choose to.
So we can retrace our thoughts back and just simply repeat whatever we were thinking about previously,
Though by changing the words.
So for example,
I should take out the rubbish can become I choose to take out the rubbish.
And notice how that feels different in your body.
And I'll leave you with this,
This simple phrase moving from can't to can.
So as I read this out,
Notice what arises.
Some people think they can't create change,
Or that some part of them shouldn't,
In order to stay safe,
When soon they realize that change could create safety too.
And in fact,
They can create the change that they desire.
And that positive steps forward in life show that they can do anything if they put their mind to it.
So moving from can't to can,
In that statement,
There were many different model operators you may have noticed.
I'll read it out again,
Emphasizing each of the words so you can pay attention to them.
Some people think they can't create change,
Or that some part of them shouldn't,
In order to stay safe,
When soon they realize that change could create safety too.
And in fact,
They can create the change that they desire.
And that positive steps forward in life shows that they can do anything if they put their mind to it.
So even if you take from this,
That language is important and noticing how we talk to ourselves and others and about things is important.
That is a wonderful step forward.
The first step is awareness,
Getting curious,
How we communicate to ourselves and others,
And then if we desire to change that,
We can.
Step by step,
And as you do so,
Notice what transforms.
So I'll end this audio,
Repeating the phrase once again,
Though replacing it with you.
This phrase is what we call chaining model operators,
Linking them together to move from what we consider impossible to possibility,
To move from can't to can,
And this is directly communicating to the unconscious mind.
So allow these words to sink in,
And your unconscious will get what it needs to get from this.
You may think you can't create change,
Or some part of you shouldn't in order to stay safe,
When soon you realize that change could create safety too.
And in fact,
You can create change that you desire,
And that positive steps forward in life shows that you can do anything if you put your mind to it.
Take in those words,
And notice the possibilities in life,
Notice the options in life,
Notice the opportunities in life.
And rewriting the story using language,
Using words,
Can be a wonderful way to start.
