Let's gently bring our awareness into our hearts,
Just move your awareness into your heart chakra,
Which is just the area around your heart,
Just the energetic center that receives and transmits information.
Just say hello to your heart,
Maybe express gratitude for its hard work.
Today we're focused on the idea or the heart-mind state of equanimity,
Which really is about understanding we can't control the uncontrollable,
That most things are beyond our control.
And I want to do a meditation with you on equanimity that I haven't ever done before,
And I always think of equanimity as having equanimity for a situation.
But like we do loving-kindness,
Compassion,
And sympathetic joy practice on people,
We can actually do that with equanimity.
So the first person we're going to start with is actually the neutral person.
So just imagine,
Bring into your heart,
Your mind,
A person that's in your community.
You don't,
Probably don't know their name,
You might see them at the hardware store or walking in your neighborhood.
Just bring that person gently into your heart space.
And you're going to share with them this phrase,
All beings are the owners of their karma.
Their happiness and unhappiness depends on their actions,
Not on my wishes for them.
All beings are the owners of their karma.
Their happiness or unhappiness depends on their actions,
Not on my wishes for them.
So just see them in your mind's eye and have equanimity,
Meaning knowing that their karma is their karma,
And I can't control their experience.
Gently let that person go and bring into your heart someone that comes easily to love for you,
A benefactor,
A friend,
A lover.
And we're wishing equanimity for them.
We are experiencing equanimity for and around them.
Know that this being is responsible for their own karma,
And their happiness or unhappiness depends on their actions,
Not on my wishes for them.
And gently let them go.
Bring into mind someone who has harmed you,
Or you may even consider them your enemy.
Someone that causes a catch in your,
A hitch in your get up.
I don't know if that's the right word.
Just someone that causes friction in your life.
Bring them into your heart space.
Just gently acknowledge that they are the owners of their karma.
Their happiness or unhappiness depends on their actions,
Not on my wishes for them.
Simply let them go.
Let's think about all beings throughout space and time.
Sentient beings throughout the world.
Folks we don't know,
Folks we've never met,
But yet we're connected to them through this human and earthly experience.
All beings are the owners of their karma.
Their happiness and unhappiness depend on their actions,
Not on my wishes for them.
Let's end by bringing equanimity to ourselves.
Understanding no matter how much we wish for something,
We may not be able to attain it.
That we are the owner of our own karma,
And our happiness or our unhappiness depends on our actions.
Let us this week,
As we go forth,
May our thoughts and actions be aligned with loving kindness and compassion for ourselves and others,
So that we may engender the seeds of happiness for ourselves and for those we meet along our paths.
