Welcome,
My name is Emilio José García,
And in this practice we are going to connect with our procrastination tendencies.
I invite you to close your eyes,
If you can.
I invite you to take a couple of deep breaths,
Get comfortable.
Procrastination is the act of delaying a task,
Delaying doing something.
The reasons behind procrastination can be very many.
Sometimes it's emotional reasons,
Sometimes it could be mental reasons,
Sometimes communication reasons.
Today,
We are going to get in touch with our procrastination.
We are going to notice it,
We are going to become aware of it,
We are going to sit with it,
Create space for it.
We don't need to do anything with it yet.
We don't need to fix it,
We don't need to say,
It is good,
It is bad.
I invite you to be very compassionate with yourself,
Very kind,
And accept what is.
The first step is always to become aware of the truth,
Become aware of what's happening.
And once we observe what's happening,
Once we can accept it,
Once we can notice it showing up in our day-to-day lives,
That's then our opportunity to start doing something different.
Start behaving differently,
Start making different choices,
And it all starts from this place of awareness and acceptance.
So my invitation is for you to reflect about your day-to-day life.
When do you notice that procrastination is showing up in your life?
What are you trying to do?
What kind of task is ahead of you?
What is happening inside of you when you have to do that task?
When it's time to start doing that specific task?
Is it a mental task?
Is it a physical task?
Where are you doing that task?
What is the location?
Are there other people involved?
Is communication needed?
Do you have the skills that are required to complete this task?
What emotions are showing up when you are presented with this task?
Anything is welcome here.
This is your opportunity to create space for anything that is present,
For anything that it is true right now.
You don't need to label it,
It's not good,
It's not bad,
It is what it is.
I invite you to embrace it,
To notice it,
To accept it.
And then from this place of awareness and acceptance,
I invite you to think about possibilities.
What are other possibilities that you could embrace when this happens?
Procrastination is a tendency that we may use in our lives to keep us safe,
To keep us comfortable,
To avoid something that may lead into a dangerous territory.
There is always a reason why we choose to procrastinate something,
And in today's practice,
We just want to connect with that.
We just want to be present with it.
We just want to uncover and shine the light in those reasons that most likely have been hidden in the shadows,
In the dark,
In our unconscious mind.
And we have been making decisions,
Most likely unconscious decisions,
From that place.
And it is okay.
It is what it is.
Once you uncover these things,
Once you shine the light in those shadows,
Once you bring all these reasons to the consciousness,
We can choose something different.
We have the opportunity to explore new possibilities.
We can transform our procrastination tendencies into healing opportunities.
There is a lot of potential in us exploring this,
In us embracing our procrastination tendencies,
Learning from them,
Becoming aware of them,
Noticing them,
And then transforming them into something different.
There is a lot of wisdom to be obtained from doing this practice.
The first step is to become aware,
To accept,
To shine the light,
And I promise you,
If we start doing that more often,
It is going to be a life-transforming experience.
I invite you to sit in silence.
I invite you to keep reflecting about your procrastination tendencies.
Connect with when they are showing up.
Connect with specific tasks or activities that you are trying to do.
Connect with the location.
Connect with some other people that may be involved.
Maybe there are communication challenges there.
Maybe there is a lack of skills or confidence.
Maybe there is fear of failing,
Fear of not doing a good enough task.
Whatever reasons show up,
Just accept them.
Create space for them.
You can learn from them.
They are showing up for a reason.
So I let some time for you to be in the silence and for you to connect with all these things.
If you like journaling,
Maybe this is a great opportunity for you to write down what you got.
If you need more time,
You can pause this audio and you can take as much time as you need.
My invitation to you is that you bring this exercise to your meditation practice.
If you don't have a meditation practice,
It is as simple as just sitting down with yourself with the intention of reflecting about the moments in your life where you find yourself procrastinating.
It is an opportunity for you to look at that tendency,
To look at the reasons why you may be procrastinating,
To uncover them,
To bring them to your consciousness.
And from that place of acceptance and awareness,
My invitation is for you to think about new possibilities,
To really think about what are new ways of acting,
Feeling,
Being,
Showing up in these specific situations so that you can transform your procrastination into something else that you can learn from it.
Thank you so much for showing up for yourself.
I honor your willingness,
Your curiosity and your courage to do this practice with me.
I hope that you can repeat this process as many times as you need and I wish you a wonderful transformation embracing your procrastination tendency and transforming that into productivity,
Into awareness,
Into a new way of being that aligns better with the person that you want to become.
So thank you so much for your presence and I will see you in another session.
