There are many reasons why we feel unsafe.
Past traumas,
Current circumstances,
Finances,
Job security,
Relationships,
Health,
Family,
World events,
And it can feel like a cloud of unease that follows you around wherever you go.
You don't have to agree with me,
But I invite you to consider that if you are listening to this meditation,
Regardless of whatever else might be happening in your life,
Right here and right now in this present moment,
You are not in immediate danger.
This meditation is designed to show you how you can find safety within,
Regardless of whatever else is going on,
Which will support you to show up fully in your life,
Experience more peace,
And navigate challenges with ease.
So begin by finding a comfortable position.
You may keep your eyes opened or closed,
And take a nice big inhale,
And exhale,
Just let it out,
Releasing any tension,
And taking two more nice big breaths,
Just to center yourself.
Now bring your awareness to your torso,
Just noticing the sensations as your chest expands with every inhale,
And soften with every exhale.
Now focusing your attention on your solar plexus,
Just below your ribcage,
And as you inhale,
Just focusing on expanding this area,
In case there is any tension or holding in your diaphragm,
Holding in your diaphragm,
In your belly.
Now as you inhale,
Just seeing if you can allow your pelvic floor to relax a little,
Again from any holding,
Any bracing,
Any tension,
Sometimes we don't realize that we're holding on to these areas until we give them permission to relax.
Now bringing your awareness to your face,
Now bringing your awareness to your face,
Just softening any tension in your brows,
Your cheeks,
You may want to puff out your cheeks to reset your jaw,
And then continuing to breathe,
Just melting away any tension in any other areas of your body.
Now notice how your body is situated,
If you're on a chair or a bed,
Just feeling the chair or the bed or the floor,
Rising up to meet your body,
Holding you,
Supporting you,
In this moment,
Knowing that gravity's got you,
In this moment,
Knowing that gravity's got you,
The chair has got you,
And then bringing your awareness out to the room that you're in,
Finding what is safe in this space,
Perhaps you're in your home,
Perhaps it is familiar smells,
Familiar sounds,
Or anything else in which you can find comfort.
Which you can find comfort.
Now bringing your awareness back to your body,
Scanning your body to find which part of your body feels the most safe and supported,
Or perhaps if you look at it as the part of your body that feels the least tense,
That is not holding on,
That's not struggling,
And it's just able to be,
Even if it's a tiny part like your little toe,
Or your foot,
Just finding where that is for you right now,
And just continuing to breathe into that part of your body,
Soaking up this feeling,
And then from here,
I'm going to allow this feeling to expand and permeate the rest of your body,
You can assign it a color or a smell,
You can assign it a color or a quality,
Like a mist that is just starting to grow,
And expand and move out into your other limbs,
Your upper body,
Your lower body,
Now that this sensation is filling your entire body,
Noticing how this feels,
Perhaps it feels peaceful,
Perhaps it feels comforting,
Perhaps it feels warm and fuzzy,
Just taking your time to soak it up,
To sit in this feeling,
To sit in this feeling,
This feeling that you have just created by tapping into the safety that is already here,
Because true safety is never found outside of us,
It always exists within,
And this sense of safety is always available to us,
No matter what else is happening,
Take a nice big inhale,
And exhale,
Just letting it all out,
Thank you for joining me for this meditation on finding safety within.
