Turning A Human Doing Into A Human Being (Live 3 Jun 2022)
Are you a human doing or a human being? In this inspiring talk taken from an InsightTimer live event, Elliott shares the differences between a human doing & a human being. Psychological studies have shown that when somebody chooses to define their Life with the quality of their energy, they tend to lead a more fulfilling Life. If somebody focuses on doing too much, they miss the immensity of this existence. The ending bell is included. Thank you for your donations~

Today is a special live event because we haven't done this one before.
I think we've done stuff like this in the past,
But this is sort of a new live event that we're doing today.
And it is about how to change from a human doing to a human being.
So welcome everybody and we will begin soon.
We're going to do a talk for about half an hour to 40 minutes and then we're going to move into a guided meditation for about 10 to 15 minutes.
And so if there's any sort of questions that you have,
Please shoot them out,
Let them fly.
If you have any sort of concerns about the material we're covering or the practice that we do at the end,
Please do let me know.
You're welcome to ask me privately in a DM after the session.
And just to let you know,
Headphones always work marvelously on these live events because you've got professional microphone and audio gear happening here.
And if you want to receive the full scope of what I'm wanting you to hear,
Headphones are always a good idea.
So if you want to get some headphones,
That would be wonderful.
But otherwise,
On whatever device you have is also fine.
So today we are going through some things that are distinguishing whether we are truly living our life or not.
Because many times we think that we need to be doing something.
We have to be constantly doing something in order for things to be happening in the right way,
To be satisfactory,
To be successful,
To be accepted by society's standards.
And so we need to distinguish the difference between being a human being and being a human doing.
We want to be able to find the ways that we can truly live a life that is worth living.
And we may already be on this path.
We may have been working on this for a while.
We may have been a human being our entire lives,
But there's certain things that we can tweak.
So we all may be on a different path and a different stage of this journey of moving from a human doing to a human being.
But what's most important is that we're conscious of this because then we can make conscious choices throughout our day based on this awareness.
So let's take a deeper look at all this stuff.
Before we begin,
I just want to introduce myself for anyone who's new to me who hasn't come to my live events before.
My name is Elliot Trevez and I am a spiritual guide,
A meditation instructor,
Sound healer,
A music producer,
An engineer,
And also body artist.
And I use all of these different modalities for healing and transformation on this planet.
And if you have any sort of questions throughout this session,
Let me know.
If you want to reach out to me privately,
You can DM me on Insight Timer.
You can also find me on social media.
It's flowing in.
Anika says,
Human doing is mechanical.
Leslie says,
Someone with scattered thoughts.
Julie,
To be in the moment.
Yas says,
I am human doing what I go,
Go,
Go all the time.
Absolutely.
And this is really important to think about because in society,
We have been trained to be doing,
Doing,
Doing all the time.
And this is what has been set up for us to understand as the markers for being successful.
If you're successful,
Then you have done something.
You have made a million dollars or you've bought that fancy car or you've built this sort of social network or you've done this or done that.
It's all about doing.
Yet there is an entire realm of experience within us that is not about doing anything.
When we can find ourselves lost deep in meditation,
We're not doing anything.
We're experiencing something so very powerful and meaningful to us because we have this ability to be.
And that's why we call ourselves human beings.
The whole phrase of human doing may provoke some questions about what is it?
What do human beings or human doings look like?
And so what I'm going to be is answering these sort of questions for us.
And we can have a discussion about this as we go along.
But if you have any sort of questions or comments about this,
I would love to hear from you and everyone else in the group would like to hear about it too because we can learn from each other from the reflections that we have throughout this session.
And so please feel free to chime in with that.
So human doing is someone who is more focused on actually achieving cultural standards because the cultural standards are worshipping accomplishment.
So growing up or living in today's world means really that we're just being bombarded all the time with messages telling us that we have to do and we have to do it really well in order to accomplish it.
We have to be competitive and we have to one up the next person.
And this whole dog-eat-dog race that we're in in society is really harmful.
And people can find themselves just sort of lost at some point in life because they have just been working themselves to the bone and doing so much to be able to get by and to make ends meet.
And this is because society has set up a certain framework for us to work in.
However,
You know,
It's measured whether with grades,
Sports victories,
Admission to best schools,
Accumulations of wealth and property and possessions,
Status,
Power.
It can really become the basis for our understanding of what we are,
Who we are,
And our feelings of self-worth.
And so if you want to be trapped in this sort of constant cycle,
You've just bought into the system,
Right?
You've bought into the idea that this is what you need to do in order for you to feel like you're on top.
And we shouldn't need that sort of encouragement.
We shouldn't need that sort of success to feel worthy within ourselves.
Hello,
I.
Hello,
Liz.
It's nice to have you with us again.
Yes.
And Patrice,
That's very important what you've said,
Because a lot of people feel like their self-worth is about their job.
Jobs can come and go.
Jobs can come in and out.
We might have several different jobs in our life,
But we should never be solely determined on our self-worth based off of our job,
Because this is not ultimate,
Right?
This is not what we're ultimately trying to achieve in life,
Is just to work.
There's a whole other,
You know,
There's the rest of life really to enjoy and to get into.
Work is part of our life.
It's a very important part of our life.
It's not everything.
Nice comment.
Anika,
She says,
The older I get,
The more aware and enlightened,
The less I want to be more.
I'd like to give.
Yes.
So as we move through life,
We start to realize,
You know,
There's certain things that we try to do.
We try to be successful in this.
We try to do this thing.
We try to be here.
We try to do that.
And sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't,
And that's okay.
But what's important is that we're learning more about ourselves along the journey.
You know,
In being seduced or if I could say brainwashed by these messages by society,
You may be transformed,
You know,
From a human being to a human doing,
Because we were born as human beings.
That's why we're called human beings,
Because we have the ability to choose how to be.
And through life,
Through the entrainments that society sets up for us,
We move from a human being to a human doing.
Think about how it was for you as a child,
How light and free and happy you could be over just the simplest things.
Like your friend comes over to play or there's snow outside or you see something that you've never seen before.
And it's like,
Wow,
You are just responding to life.
You're open.
You are more permeable.
You're more,
You know,
You're less bogged down by all these social standards and norms going on.
And so during our life,
We have to maintain our sense of direction for what we are trying to obtain,
What we're trying to achieve.
Because if we're trying to achieve something by society standards,
Even if we're successful,
Most of the time we still will not be fulfilled within ourselves,
Because look at the most richest people in the world.
They may live lavishly.
They may have lots of nice things,
But they're no more happier than the poorest people in the world.
Okay,
So this is not correlating correctly.
People think that if you achieve success and achieve this sort of status,
You're automatically going to be happy.
But this is not the case.
Human doings are only going to feel good about themselves.
They're only going to be really in touch with what they want and on a certain level,
Because what we want is actually being explored layer by layer,
By layer,
By layer.
We may think,
Okay,
I want a job.
Great.
Okay.
This is what you're working for.
This is what you're working towards.
Once you get the job though,
Now you've got a whole other set of landmarks to accomplish and to reach.
So now you're looking at getting along with your coworkers,
Learning about the job,
Getting leveled up,
Skilling,
Doing all these other things.
And then once we get that,
Then there's other things that we're trying to achieve.
So there's always going to be ways for us to feel good about what we're doing.
But if we do not have a sense of being well,
Being already in a light way with life,
Open way,
Receptive,
Then the entire process of doing is not going to be enhanced.
It's going to be sort of stuck in this mud of,
Well,
I have to do this.
I have to do that.
I have to do this.
I have to do that.
And we get stuck into this trap and we actually entrain ourselves.
We allow ourselves to get entrained by these sort of standards,
By these sort of markers that society sets up.
And that is not good for us because this is not going to show what our worth is because we are more than what we do.
We are more than what we do.
And to prove ourselves that we're doing the right thing,
We have to be able to do it.
And to prove ourselves that we're doing the right thing,
We're in this mode of doing,
They use some measurable criteria which can range from financial stuff to social stuff to professional stuff.
And it's seemingly trivial things to us right now,
But how many steps that we take in a day.
I've seen people now wearing these watches all the time that measure how many steps.
So this is kind of like an interesting culture that's happening where we're getting to the point where we want to measure everything.
We want statistics for everything.
And so in order to feel like we are being productive,
In order to feel like we're being truly successful,
We have to be aware of all the steps we take in a day.
And we have to measure our heart rate throughout the whole day.
And we have to know all these different synchronizations that are happening with the body.
Yes,
It's okay sometimes to be able to do this.
And yes,
It's okay to be able to check this stuff out because it's our health.
It's actually the mechanics of our body.
But if we just focus on this,
We're going to be getting lost in the sauce.
We need to be able to take a step back and go,
What is life really about?
What am I actually here for?
If I just go through all these loops,
Am I going to end up on the other end happy,
Fulfilled?
So we have to really ask ourselves if this is the sort of way we want to look at life.
If we want to look at life as a bunch of statistics and benchmarkers,
Or if we want to have the sense of being that is just exuding exuding this aliveness,
Exuding this joy to be alive,
Exuding our just natural state of being.
And so what is our natural state of being?
How do human doings turn from a list oriented individual to a sense of being individual?
Well,
Human doings are living constantly in this sort of state of being uncomfortable with what has landed them there.
So for instance,
If you don't get the job,
Human doings are going to focus so much on the fact that they didn't get the job.
A human being is going to look at this situation and go,
You know what?
I'm worthy.
I know that I'm going to find the right job.
That's for me.
So because this didn't work out,
I've got something better on the other end for me.
There's a reason why this didn't work out.
And I'm going to explore why that is rather than get caught up on the fact that I didn't get the job.
That I'm not doing the job.
Because if we just look at what we're doing all the time,
Again,
We're not actually tuning into our full potential,
Our full capabilities,
Our full intelligence,
Which says even without doing anything,
We can be completely blissed out.
We can be totally fulfilled.
We can be in such a state of ecstasy that anyone who's ever been on top of the world and society standards would have no idea what this is like.
Because we can create our own experience from within.
We can create our own memories.
We can create our own emotions,
Our own thoughts.
We can create our own connections with things.
We can create our own associations.
We can create our own path.
And this is part of what a human being is all about.
So this relationship between achievement and self-esteem becomes really the basis for a human doing's sense of feeling love.
Because love is an emotion.
Love is a way of feeling really good about things.
And when we feel good about life,
Things open up naturally for us.
You know,
If you look at someone who's just smiling all the time,
You just notice this person's really smiley and they're joyful and they're going about their day always with a smile on their face.
What is going to bring this person down?
What is going to make this person unhappy?
Right?
Because they're already creating this experience within themselves.
They are not relying on the external world to give them what they want in order for them to be happy.
They don't need that.
They're already creating that experience within themselves.
And that's going to be part of what the meditation at the end of the session is really about.
About how to create this experience within ourselves before any sort of external stimulation comes into the process.
And so this relationship between achievement and self-esteem in order to feel good,
In order to feel love,
In order to feel balanced,
In order to feel alive and inspired,
It's very heavily linked on the internalization of our perceptions of being a human doing.
So if we think,
If we've fallen into the trap of believing we have to do things in order to feel worthy,
In order to feel love,
In order to be inspired,
In order to be all this,
Then we need to take a step back.
And we need to look at the way that our parents brought us up.
We need to look with kindness at our culture.
We need to look with a sense of gentleness and ease at how success has been defined for us.
Because otherwise we can experience self-hatred and we can experience quite a whole slew of nasty emotions simply because we are not living up to somebody else's standards.
And what a human being is all about is creating our own standards,
Having the clarity and the stability within our own mind and body and emotions to be able to say,
This is actually not going to be good for me.
I know myself well enough to say this is not going to be my path.
I am not going to get caught up in being defined by how other people view my actions,
My successes,
My failures.
You,
Dear conscious creator,
All of you should always be working towards redefining.
This is not a one done and you know,
A one and done sort of deal.
We are always redefining what we consider to be the ultimate or successful because as we grow,
As we transform,
As we are on the spiritual path,
Everything in the material world starts to rearrange.
And because everything is rearranging in this world,
We also must adapt our perception of success.
The first couple of enlightening experiences I had in my life,
It was very sort of jarring for me because after I sort of made this jump,
After I made this leap,
I had to rearrange everything and it was really discombobulating.
I was like,
Wow,
You know,
Like so many things that were fundamental and seemed fixed in my life are now completely up in the air and all over the place and I have to redefine things,
I have to rearrange things,
I have to really create a new understanding for myself.
And I thought,
Well,
If this is,
You know,
Transformation,
I don't want to do this all the time.
It's too much work.
You know,
Is this going to happen every week?
Or what is this?
But as it is,
We are consistently redefining our understanding of success.
Because a human being don't need to believe in what other people tell them.
They wait to be shown.
They wait to see it.
Human beings start to realize that their self-worth is defined not by their accomplishments,
But rather by their sense of,
Their own sense of values,
Values,
Their attitudes towards things,
The way that they support themselves in difficult moments,
The way that they catch themselves before reacting.
Human beings are able to determine what they should do based off of the situation.
Human beings are conscious of what's going on around them and within them so that when things come into place and there's something that is,
You know,
Troubling or triggering or something,
We can take a moment to stop and say,
How would I like to treat the situation?
Because the situation is giving me a certain amount of feedback on what to do.
And so a human being will look to respond to this information rather than just trying to push through with their own sort of understanding of things.
And that's what we want.
We want to be able to adapt to each situation.
The more adaptable we become,
The more we're able to move through different spaces and different phases of our life with grace,
With ease,
And with love still intact within us.
Even if we feel someone has done us dirty,
Even if we feel,
You know,
Someone else is wrong,
We still have the ability as a human being to say,
That's okay.
I'm going to choose how I respond to this situation.
I'm not going to get caught up in the he said,
She said,
Or just reacting and attacking and taking defense.
We can really evaluate ourselves in this moment and say,
What is the best way through this?
How would I like to act?
How would I like to behave in this moment?
So human beings are able to resist the onslaught of unhealthy messages from our achievement-based culture to make deliberate choices based on who you really are and what is really important to you.
So I'm going to write this in the comments because I think this is quite important to include.
Human beings are able to resist unhealthy patterns.
Human beings are able to resist unhealthy messages from our achievement culture and make deliberate choices based on who they are.
This is really important because if we're again using society's standards to base everything that we're doing off of,
Then we are not really truly serving ourselves.
And that's what we need to do first.
I do another live event about selfishness because many people who are fully entrained into this achievement culture and society's standards,
They have been led to believe that being selfish is bad.
Being selfish is wrong.
Being selfish is a bad look.
When actually you need to own your selfishness.
You need to take responsibility for yourself first if you want to get anything done in the world.
If you don't take your own life into your hands,
How are you going to get anything really big done in the world?
You first need to take control of yourself and take ownership of yourself,
Your actions,
Your words,
Your thoughts,
Everything.
And that is selfishness.
That is selfishness redefined by an individual as opposed to just taking on this definition of selfishness from society.
If you're a selfish person,
That can actually mean a really wonderful thing because you're saying,
I am about myself right now first and then I take care of other people and then I respond to situations around me.
But just to say that I'm selfish and that's bad,
This is not true.
Because think about it,
In order for us to be aware of what's going on,
In order for us to be able to say,
Actually,
I'm not interested in that,
Thank you.
You need to be aware of yourself enough to be able to have that awareness and to have that awareness,
You need to be in a place of being selfish because you're thinking about how you are going to respond to how you want to be.
So this is part of our redefinition of selfishness and that comes from our ability to be aware of what's going on around us.
And so another thing about human beings is that we gain satisfaction and validation from things like honesty and consideration and responsibility and the sharing that's involved and the heart of the matter.
So human beings are looking beyond these sort of initial markers for success,
Beyond these initial markers of being good and well and all this stuff.
So human beings have control over what primarily is affirming their self-esteem because achievement,
If it's being defined by the inevitable failures that are going to happen naturally anyways from going through the process and living life,
Like part of living life is failing,
Right?
We need to be able to fail and be able to pick up and pick ourselves up,
Develop gentleness and love within ourselves to be able to not be so hard on ourselves and understand that this is just a part of life.
Part of life is failing.
Part of life is making mistakes.
Part of life is not allowing our mistakes and our actions that we've not been perfect on to be our teachers,
To show us the right way.
And this is going back to what we were talking about yesterday about the pain showing us the truth.
And that makes the pain the truth.
Because if you make a mistake and you're aware of it,
Right?
If you're actually aware that you've made a mistake,
You're going to feel some sort of uneasiness and people are going to experience that in various different ways.
Some people feel a restriction in their chest.
Some people feel a block in their throat.
Some people feel a lot of pressure in their head.
Some people feel their toes itching or something.
But we all have like physical sensation when we know that we stuffed up,
When we know that we made a mistake.
And this pain or discomfort or uneasiness is the truth.
It's showing us that we are aware of something that had happened.
And this is not bad that we're feeling it.
It's just that it's there and we need to process it.
It's showing us something so that we don't just keep going and making the same mistake over and over and over,
Right?
So the pain is there to show us the way.
It's our teacher.
And if we approach the pain,
If we experience the pain as our teacher,
As our friend,
If we befriend our pain,
Then we become more of a human being because that gives us that self-reflection,
That awareness for us to then move forward,
Having learned something about our mistakes.
But if we just keep making the same mistake over and over and over again,
What kind of a life is this?
What kind of a life is it if when we make mistakes,
We just be super hard on ourselves and,
Oh,
We just failed and we just messed this up and we're never going to be good again?
So this is really important to be able to allow ourselves to learn from our mistakes,
Allow the failures to be part of our human conditioning in the right direction.
Liz,
Thank you for this comment.
Thank you for the support and the love there,
Liz.
That's very sweet of you.
And yes,
We are all deserving of the best of the best.
We may not be ready for it yet,
But we deserve it.
That's why we're here,
Right?
To prepare ourselves for greater things,
To allow us ourselves to experience higher dimensions of life and to be able to go deeper and deeper into this world of exploring our possibilities.
Another point I'd like to make is because human beings don't feel an unrelenting pressure to be constantly doing,
Doing,
Doing,
Human beings are just capable of being present.
What does it mean to simply be present,
Right?
In a world that is constantly moving,
Constantly evolving,
And constantly in motion,
And to be kind of feels like something that's static.
Okay,
Just have to sit here and I'm just going to be.
But even if you just sit there and be,
There's millions of reactions happening within your body.
There's millions of things being changed around within your physical structure.
There's so many things that you can be going through in your mind and your heart.
But it never fully stops.
So being present is a very dynamic way to be.
To be present for things is to really be showing up,
To be here consciously.
And so when we are in this state of presence,
Conscious presence,
We can feel peace,
We can feel calm,
We can feel rage,
We can feel contentment,
We can feel upset,
We can feel blissful.
Even when human beings are surrounded by the chaotic world around us,
We are still able to find that place in the mess where we are just present,
Where we are just ourselves.
And so human beings can also enjoy aspects of life that have no purpose beyond the immediate experience,
Such as reading,
Cooking,
Playing,
Going for a walk,
Being with friends,
Listening to music,
Meditating,
All without regard to the outcomes of those experiences.
So if you feel like you have been trapped into being a human doing rather than a human being,
One thing that we can start to do to refocus ourselves and retrain ourselves is to look at how the outcome affects our journey.
Because if we're focused on the outcome all the time,
We're going to miss the journey.
We're not going to be fully present.
The outcome may not happen as we wish.
And guess what?
That's okay.
Because life is more magical than you can even fathom.
We can't explain anything from an atom to the way that the planets are aligned,
To the solar system,
To how the stock market works.
Everything is in constant flux and just so absolutely incredibly complex.
So to try to be fixed on an outcome is to say,
I'm not going to accept anything else but this.
I'm only going to believe and accept this.
And whatever happens that is not like that,
I'm going to be really upset.
I'm going to allow that to really make me upset because I want it to happen this way,
This way,
This way.
Because we're just doing.
This is a human doings way of looking at things.
It has to be my outcome or it's nothing.
When actually,
If you embrace the outcome being whatever it's going to be,
And you instead put your energy towards the process,
Being present in each moment along the journey,
You are going to have a phenomenally fantastic and beautiful life.
You're going to experience everything differently because you're present,
You're focused on the process,
You're not focused on the goal,
You're not focused on the end point.
You're present and you're focused on what you can do,
About what you can do right now.
If you're focused on what you can do,
Which you cannot do,
Which is to control everything and have a certain outcome,
Then you're going to miss the ride.
You're going to miss the boat.
So this is really important that without regard to the outcome of those experiences,
We can truly focus on what's important right now.
Yes,
Individualism is a sort of way of looking at things,
Of structuring what an individual is and how an individual operates and behaves.
And self-awareness,
Selfishness is more about the act of observing what is an individual.
So in the state of being self-aware of our state of selfishness,
We can learn because we're open,
We're aware,
We're looking at things like,
Teach me,
Hey life,
What is going on here?
I want to understand more of the intricacies and the in and outs of what this is.
So we turn ourself inwards,
Which is an act of selfishness,
A healthy,
Wonderful act of selfishness,
Turn our attention inwards and we become aware of what's going on here.
This is a fantastic thing.
It's an opportunity for us to shift from the outside world and everything that's going on out here and go inside.
What's actually happening?
How can I show up for myself here?
How can I be here for myself first so I have the leverage to be able to help others to be able to do fantastic things in the world?
Unfortunately,
Human doings don't usually respect human beings because the human beings don't perceive this ladder of success as being the end-all way of looking at things.
Sure,
There's a sort of understanding that there's a process to things,
There's leveling up,
There's a ladder that's involved to you going from here to here.
Yes,
Naturally.
But if we focus on the steps always being a certain way or these steps meaning I'm going to be happy at the end,
Then we've tricked ourselves.
We've really allowed ourselves to be hijacked by a different sort of mentality of doing that doesn't really work with us.
It's messy.
It doesn't really make sense.
Why is it that when we don't live up to someone else's standards or society's standards,
We feel unhappy?
That shouldn't be the case.
We should be creating our own definition of what success is within the framework that we have to work in.
And this is why it takes so much energy to be a spiritually driven person,
To be a self-aware individual,
Because you have to work at some level within the whole system.
Unless you're a monk in a cave or in a monastery or something like that,
You're going to have to work with the real world all the time.
And so that's just something that you have to sort of navigate through anyways.
But if you have your own compass firmly in place,
And you have your own set of standards firmly in place,
And your own set of self-worth set up for yourself,
Now there's going to be some conflict.
Right?
There's your way that you've developed from self-awareness and the way of society that you have to work within.
And so this is why meditation,
This is why we have the ability to go deeper in becoming a human being,
Because human beings will be accepting their humanity.
Human beings will be a part of something greater that is accepting your basic humanity,
Which includes the perception that no one is perfect.
No one is perfect in this world.
So we all have flaws and that is what makes us human.
And since we are flawed,
Then failure is an inevitable part of life.
And like we're talking about,
This is just part of being human.
Right?
From this perspective,
Failure loses its potential to harm us and to bring us down.
Instead,
Failure works as a teacher to show us the way,
How to improve the next time,
How to build upon what we've already got.
And so this creates more balance in our life.
This creates more beauty in our world.
This creates a whole new way of experiencing things because we start to redefine success.
We start to use our to-do lists more as an experiment rather than a must-do.
And so the wider the focus involves reducing your to-do list as being the end-all marker for you being successful,
Then the more you're going to realize that this is all just a part of a bigger sort of play happening in life.
You want to achieve stuff.
You want to experience your potential.
You want to realize what you can accomplish.
And there's nothing wrong with that.
And this allows us to lighten up.
This allows us to give more love,
To generate more love within ourselves.
It's impossible for a human doing to give themselves love because they're so focused on what's outside,
What's happening out in the world,
That nothing they do is going to be good enough to earn what they feel inside.
Because in order to be so focused on the outside world and what's happening out there and doing something,
Accomplishing something,
It involves so many different things.
There's so many factors.
There's so many people.
There's so many organizations.
There's so many forces and energies involved in something happening the way you want it that it's just maddening and literally crazy to think that your sense of fulfillment and happiness is going to come only when all of the stars align and everything comes into place to happen just the way you want it.
So there's always going to be imperfections.
There's always going to be mistakes.
There's always going to be failures.
And these things are natural,
A part of life.
It's what makes a human doing feel unworthy though of their own love.
And so human beings,
In contrast,
Are more capable and willing to express and generate love because they're connected to themselves during the process.
They're not putting themselves down every time something doesn't happen their way.
So human beings can express love and compassion because they are no longer culturally and socially driven to be these sort of successful stories out in the world.
They realize that they may fail more than they succeed,
But that doesn't judge or dictate the way that they're going to feel about themselves inside because what other people have told us about ourselves doesn't matter.
What society has told us about ourselves doesn't matter.
What really matters is how you are able to be there for yourself,
How you are able to be aware of yourself because only through building self-awareness are you going to be able to go deeper into life and experience the different dimensions of joy and bliss and pleasure and happiness,
Contentment,
Fulfillment.
Human beings understand that love does not have to be earned,
But rather it is given to us as a gift to ourselves just for being who we are.
This is what's really important about being a human being,
That we take charge and responsibility of our own lives and we make the appropriate actions and learn from our mistakes in order to be feeling better,
Feeling lighter,
Feeling more full of love.
Thank you Liz for those sweet words.
I really appreciate that.
It's nice to know that you're enjoying and absorbing this material.
This is such a relevant topic in today's world because of how much we have around us,
Bombarding us,
Pressuring us to be in this system.
That's why it's so important for us every once in a while to get out into nature.
That's why it's so important for us every once in a while to disconnect from our phones.
That's why it's so important for us to feel a sense of community like what we have here on Inside Timer.
So whenever we have this ability to connect with the larger web of life and to kind of get out of our own heads,
To get out of this whole structure of,
This is what success is based on,
We're able to feel life,
To realize that life is so magical,
So unpredictable and mysterious,
Incredibly mysterious.
There's so many layers of truth happening within each and every moment.
It's octaves of understanding for everything that happens and that we have the ability to really take a step back from this whole system of doing to be successful,
To be worthy and say,
Look,
I can just spend some time in nature.
I can go for a walk.
I can sit next to a tree.
I can climb a tree.
I can spend some time with the animals.
I can just stare into the sky and look at the clouds for a while.
And suddenly,
All this stuff can go away.
And that's why we're going to do a meditation practice today because the practice,
The actual practice,
The spiritual practice of moving from a human doing to human being is not that complex.
It's really not.
It starts with cultivating a sense of awareness.
It starts with creating a certain atmosphere around ourselves for things to naturally start to take root in our life.
If we create the right environment around ourselves for something to happen,
It's much more likely that it's going to happen.
If you choose consciously the right ingredients to put in on your pizza,
Then it's much more likely that your pizza is going to be delicious and fulfilling and nourishing.
But if you don't really spend the time to pick the right ingredients,
What kind of a pizza are you going to make?
And so human doing,
Again,
We're looking out into the world for everything.
We're just constantly focused on the outside world giving us what we want.
Whereas a human being is coming from the inside out.
We're creating our experience the way we want within ourselves.
First,
Often with love,
Because a lot of people feel that love is the beginning of everything,
Really.
I would disagree and I would say that peace is really a human being.
Because if you can't be at peace with yourself,
How are you going to want to be around yourself?
If you can't be peaceful within yourself,
You're not going to be in good company because your company is not even peaceful.
I think peace is the first thing.
And I don't think love is necessary to be peaceful.
I think you can still not be loving,
But be peaceful.
Loving comes as a sense of being,
Ah,
Life is juicy.
Life is really nice to actually be around because you are life.
And this phenomena called life is happening to us regardless of whether we like it or want it to happen or not.
First,
We need peace.
We need to ask for peace.
And maybe for that,
We need to be forgiven.
We need to forgive ourselves.
We need to forgive another.
We need to allow what is being blocked or held onto to be released,
To be allowed to go.
And then feelings of love,
Bliss start to follow after that.
So I would say this meditation is going to be focused on the beginnings of peace within ourselves,
As well as what it takes to set up the right foundation for a human being to blossom.
Yes,
Liz,
Forgiveness is also a gift that we give to the world,
Right?
Because when we forgive,
We are opening up the doors for transformation.
We're opening up the doors for the darkness to be penetrated by the light.
We are opening up the opportunity for what has been held onto in order to learn from,
To be processed and released into the sort of greater web of intelligence of what's really happening.
So this is really important that we can forgive when we feel things are very heavy on us,
Because that's not life.
Life is not holding onto things and keeping them out of fear.
Life is allowing things to flow and embracing the chaos.
And so this is very important that we give ourselves this sort of attention.
We're going to begin the meditation now in a minute.
So if anyone would like to get up,
Stretch,
Go get a pillow,
Blanket,
Light a candle,
Light some incense,
Take care of anything that you need to take care of in order to create an atmosphere free of distraction,
Please do so now.
The human experience is naturally attuned to experience and perceive the dualities of life,
Hot and cold,
Masculine and feminine,
Light and dark,
Enlightenment and ignorance,
Pain and pleasure,
Sun and moon,
Just by the very nature of our material world,
Of the cosmos.
It is a world of contrast and duality.
And what is the natural order for all of this?
Chaos,
But also balance within the chaos.
There's a constantly fluctuating sense of chaos and order,
Chaos,
Harmony.
And so if we embrace it all,
Then we are going to be doing ourselves a massive favor.
Because if you just accept that life is chaos,
If you accept that life is constantly transforming itself and constantly changing,
Then when you notice these sort of changes,
When you notice these sort of things happening,
You go,
Oh,
But that's natural.
That's okay.
And that makes the whole process of getting through those times and learning much,
Much with more lubrication,
With more grace,
With more acceptance,
With more love.
So now I'm hoping that you've gotten yourself what you need to be comfortable and we can begin the meditation now.
We're going to begin this meditation with three Aums.
The Aum is the sound of creation within the human system.
We are activating the chakras with this practice and we are enlightening ourselves to our ultimate possibility.
And there are three distinct sounds.
There's the Aum,
Bind them,
Attempting to be in a nice state of breath,
Rhythmically relaxed.
And we are allowing this sound to be generated from the base of our spine.
And it moves up as we transition through the different sounds.
And we're trying to aim to be with each sound about equal length.
And there's no right or wrong way of making the sound.
You just have to feel it and learn it to yourself,
What it feels like within yourself to make this sound.
Some of you have already practiced with me plenty of times,
So you know what's going on.
So you know what's going on.
But this Aum is the sound of creation.
This aligns us with truth.
This aligns us with the natural state of being,
Which is our bliss body,
Which is our ability to be blissful.
So let's do seven Aums together and then we'll begin the practice.
So please be seated in the meditative posture of your choice.
You might want your legs crossed.
You want to be maybe with a cushion.
Some of you might want to lay down.
That's fine for this practice.
It's okay.
However,
You are able to be in the most comfortable and alert state physically is best.
When you're ready,
Close your eyes,
Place your hands facing down on your knees if you're sitting and to your side if you're lying down.
Palms face down,
The head slightly tilt back,
Very slightly,
Just enough that your neck can rest.
And with your eyes drawing to the center of your forehead,
To the point just above your eyebrows,
The center of your eyebrow ridge,
Allowing your eyes to rest there.
And take a few deep breaths in and out through the nose,
Just allowing the sensation of breath to be at the center of our attention now,
Allowing the focus to start to spread and open up and to become a sensational quality within the body,
Breathing open,
Fully relaxed.
Any tension in the body can be acknowledged and breathed into.
And let's begin the seven ohm chance to align,
Synchronize our energies.

Ah,
Ah comprised of body,
Mind,
Motion,
Spirit,
We can greatly yet gently relax and enter this present moment.
By shifting our focus into a witnessing observational mode,
We begin to separate this thinker from this observer.
Check in with your body now.
Observe any sensations,
What comes up in the body when we place our gentle awareness upon it.
Check in with the mind.
When you feel the emptiness of the mind,
Is there even just one moment when thoughts are not taking over?
Check in with your emotions.
Just simply notice any impulsive reactions.
Your breathing is rhythmic and relaxed and natural,
And you're just noticing how it feels to be seated here in this present moment,
This present moment that is all-encompassing and ever expansive.
Take a moment to scan through your body with neutral awareness,
Just noticing whatever is there in this moment.
Any points of tension or resistance,
You can just make a mental note of tension or resistance.
We may notice that the sensations or the discomfort or the pain,
It actually lessens and gets dealt with on some level just because we place our awareness on it.
It's being seen.
It's being touched with our love.
It's being brought into the fold,
For it may have been feeling like it's been forgotten.
We may be feeling like we've been forgotten,
Pushed aside,
Discarded.
In the love,
You cannot discard yourself.
It's impossible.
So the act of simply noticing what is there is an act of love,
It's an act of gentleness.
It's an act of kindness.
And with these points of tension within the body,
Or even if some of us don't have any,
If we're just simply cruising along,
Feeling good and smooth,
We can now create three gentle hums.
This is a simplified version of the hum,
Just humming.
We're gonna direct this hum parts of the body where there's a sense of uneasiness.
And I want you to notice that when you hum,
There's a vibration.
You are creating a vibration,
And it's warm.
It's got quality of openness.
It has the ability to heal you.
The hum sound has been scientifically proven to release chemicals within the body that reduces inflammation,
That opens up the passageways in the body.
So let's now do three hums together.
And I just want you to direct consciously this vibration.
You may feel the vibration in your throat.
You may feel it in your torso,
Wherever you feel it.
Then consciously direct it to whatever part of the body is needing it.
Let's begin.
Warming up,
Nice and open.
Feeling that warmth within the body,
Letting it melt away any tension or stress.
Last time.
Hum.
That is love.
That is attention.
That is loving awareness spreading throughout your body.
Allow this clear and relaxed presence to be the expression of your being.
Allow your body to reflect this immersion of simply being in this present moment.
Welcome whatever comes up while keeping in mind in the struggle,
You are more than the story.
You are more than time.
You are more than space.
You are more than emotion.
You are more than hatred.
You are more than doubt.
You are more than power.
You are more than the sky.
You are more than earth.
You are more than the sound.
You are more than the silence.
You are more than the awareness.
You are aware that there is more than doing.
There is being which connects you to all life in this space of oneness,
In this space of knowing.
Effortlessly,
Just notice your breath.
Watch the natural changes,
Fluctuations of your breath.
Just the simple witnessing of your natural and full breath.
Surrender to the power of breathing completely each breath to take you deeper into a state of presence.
This is a practice from transitioning doing into being.
We don't need to do anything here.
We can simply be.
We are adaptive.
We are aware.
We do not need to react.
Compulsions dissolve.
Responsibility arises.
We feel responsible for this breath right now.
We feel responsible for this position that we've taken for meditation.
We feel a sense of responsibility for our thoughts.
We are in touch with a sense of responsibility for the way that we are within ourselves before anything from the outside even takes a step in.
We are here.
We are present.
We are focused on our sense of being.
And this practice again with seven alms,
This practice of chanting OM.
We are creating the sound of creation within our bodies.
This is the sound of the entire universe within our human system,
Comprises of three different sounds.
Ah,
Ooh,
And mm.
Strung together it sounds like this.
Ah,
We aim to balance each three sounds equal length.
And we do this seven times to respond accordingly to our seven major energy wheels,
Our seven chakras.
The body will respond in a positive way to this happening seven times.
And as we do this,
We are feeling the sensation that is created by making the sound throughout our body.
We want it to be created from deep within the base of the spine and then moving up.
And we can feel the warmth,
The gentle quality of our own sound vibrating within ourselves.
This is incredibly relaxing and beneficial for physical health.
You can join me,
You can simply listen.

In bringing this meditation to a finish,
Let's come back to full awareness of this body,
This room that we're in,
Recognizing that this awareness that we are in touch with right now is something that we can always be in touch with as we go throughout our day with the doing with our being.
Gently taking a long,
Deep,
Slow,
Cleansing breath in through the nose,
Out through the mouth,
And see if you can take some of this beautiful energy that's circling within you right now into your day,
Into your ordinary moments so that they become extraordinary.
May your presence be a blessing to yourself and to all.
Thank you for sharing your meditation practice with me,
And thank you for supporting me during this live session.
Namaste.

What I got out of the talk was affirmation that I don't need to work hard at being. Running away from pain towards pleasure was self destructive for me and had a negative impact to those around me. Mindfulness practice is giving me peace. Thanks
