Transcript
Welcome to another stress-fit meditation.
This session is part of the Spiritual Warrior series.
In it,
I will be guiding you through recognizing the spiritual warrior within you and connecting with the essence of what a true warrior is in the modern era.
Furthermore,
We will examine the ways in which we can sharpen the mind,
Which is akin to the samurai's blade,
To bring about more peace and harmony within and around you.
Find a comfortable position for this meditation.
Maintain a comfortable,
Straight back.
And then gently close your eyes and mouth.
I'll begin with a quote by Confucius.
He who conquers himself is the mightiest warrior.
The way of the warrior has been buried in our modern era.
The samurai was disciplined and used the power of the mind and body to transcend fear and all obstacles.
They dedicated their lives towards mastering this power to help others and cultivate honor and courage and loyalty in their world.
Their minds were just as important as their blades.
Unless we learn how to transcend the analytical mind,
The mind that judges,
Divides,
Categorizes,
Discriminates,
Analyzes,
And feeds us unnecessary thoughts,
Then we run the risk of falling victim to our own selfish nature.
By selfish nature,
I mean that we have no self-awareness or self-control over our thought patterns,
No discipline,
No ability to help others,
No true happiness,
And ultimately a prisoner to oneself.
Learning how to observe your thought process,
Impulsive energy,
And unsettled tendencies,
Which all make up the mind's programming,
Raises our self-awareness and ability to not only end our own suffering,
But to uplift others as well.
Once we can consciously observe the programs that make up our psychological mind,
We are no longer a slave to the mind.
We are the conscious observer using the mind as a powerful tool.
In becoming a modern spiritual warrior,
We must sharpen our mind with the precision and diligence of the samurai sharpening his blade in preparation for battle.
Without a sharp mind,
We will forever be bound to suffering.
Check in with the body,
Whether you're standing,
Sitting,
Or lying down.
Your breath is relaxed and natural,
And you're just noticing how the body is in this present moment.
Allow your awareness to gather around your body.
Notice any physical sensations that can arise.
Lightness,
Heaviness,
Movement,
Contact,
Pressure,
Restfulness,
Restlessness,
Temperature,
Moisture,
Buzzing,
Or tingling.
Without trying to change anything,
Just simply observe your body.
Let's start by taking a deep breath in through the nose and out through the nose.
Breathing in through the nose,
Breathing out through the nose.
Allow all your thoughts to appear in your field of awareness.
There's no need to resist or identify with any thoughts.
Just allow them to appear and disappear.
Become familiar with your position as the observer to thoughts.
Thoughts cannot just take over your mind.
You must pay attention to them.
Your power is your body.
Your body is your body.
Just pay attention to them.
Your power is in your attention.
Right now,
Place your attention on your breath.
Rest in your breath for the next few moments.
And with each breath cycle,
Try to feel your body gaining energy through the air you breathe.
Inhale,
Drawing in energy.
Then exhale,
Releasing tension from the body.
Use this time to discharge any unwanted energy and recharge.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Now,
Think of your attention like a samurai's sword.
And think of your awareness as your challenge.
Your attention is your presence or where you are in each moment.
And your awareness is your consciousness or where you can be in each moment.
You want to use your attention like a sword to cut through your awareness and transcend the realm of the undisciplined mind.
For without a sharp mind,
It remains the source of disenchantment and we cannot see past our own desires and self-absorption,
Endlessly playing an unfulfilling game of repeating patterns of suffering.
Without a sharp mind,
We cannot penetrate the veil of normality.
With a sharp mind,
We see that every moment can be blissful.
Every moment is extraordinary.
Every moment is a golden opportunity to be a peaceful,
Free warrior,
Capable of creating his or her own reality.
Are you ready to begin sharpening your mind and realizing the spiritual warrior within?
The next part of this meditation will be dealing with the visualization technique.
As you continue the diaphragmatic breathing in through the nose,
Out through the nose,
Drawing the air deep down into your diaphragm,
Allow a beautiful and strong samurai sword to come into your field of awareness.
You can grab it and use it for various things.
You feel the power in your hands and it fills you with a sense of empowerment and responsibility.
For instance,
You can use it to destroy or create,
To harm or protect,
To bear as a weapon or remain sheathed.
Whatever you use it for,
It is in your direct awareness now.
It is an integral part of your presence,
Yet you are not attached to it in any way.
You can make this comparison with the sword to our mind because using our mind empowers us and there's also a responsibility that comes with having a mind.
Our mind can also be used to destroy or create,
Harm or protect,
To be expressed or silent.
Our mind makes up our reality and it is an integral part of our presence in every moment.
Yet we don't have to be attached to it like we may think.
We can either learn how to use it and liberate ourselves or we can stay ignorant and suffer.
The choice is ours.
As you continue taking nice deep conscious breaths in through the nose,
Out through the nose,
Understand that you have the power to control your attention and expand your awareness.
For the next few moments,
Charge your samurai sword with the virtue of self-awareness.
Remain focused on your sword being charged as it stays in your field of awareness.
Thank you.
As you do this,
Thoughts or emotions may come to the surface.
That's okay.
Acknowledge them and then with one swift and powerful motion,
Cut the distraction with your sword and watch the distraction dissolve.
Practice this each time a distraction comes up while you continue breathing consciously for the next few moments.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Where you focus your attention is what you bring to life,
Just like we did with the sword and distraction.
So when thoughts appear,
You must pay attention to them to bring them to life.
When we are not aware of this process,
It happens automatically and this is our egoic nature.
In our modern,
Busy,
Technological age,
Many of us have mastered being unconscious,
Not being present or responsible for the role our minds play in creating our reality.
Our awareness is filled by thought processes that we think we have little to no control over and our attention is scrambling more than ever to keep up with our busy and technologically driven lifestyles.
We can become walking and talking versions of ourselves that almost always react out of automatic responses that we allowed to be programmed into us.
The spiritual warrior can transcend the material plane of existence and connect with a deeper truth.
This is done by maintaining a sharp mind to cut through the veil of normality and reactivity.
This is done by maintaining a sharp mind to cut through the veil of normality and reactivity.
This is a crucial element to understand.
You have the power to take control over your mind,
To be the ruler of your world.
But it takes practice to take the steering wheel back.
Having given up your throne of awareness to the unconscious egoic nature for so long is the very reason why it takes time to regain harmony with your mind again.
So don't worry if thoughts keep auditioning for your attention.
Just remember that you are the ruler of your thoughts and only you through your attention can give thoughts power and value.
Continue breathing nice,
Deep,
Conscious breaths and keep your sword ready for when a thought or emotion tries to fill your awareness and rob you of your presence.
Do this for the next few moments.
You Thank you.
Once the intellect,
You,
Identify with thought process.
You will protect the identification because you make it a part of yourself.
Release your attachment to thoughts and emotions and you will experience the freedom of the spiritual warrior.
By raising our self-awareness,
We start to move into a higher state of consciousness.
Allow thoughts and emotions to come up.
Acknowledge them.
Then use your sword to retire them from your field of awareness.
Slowly return to the breath and continue the diaphragmatic breathing.
With practice,
We sharpen the mind and gain our skills as a spiritual warrior,
Capable of exerting virtue and using our presence to uplift and liberate others instead of being trapped playing the games of the mind's beggar.
In this series,
We will go deep into your body system to engineer the essence of a spiritual warrior.
We will not only sharpen the mind,
But strengthen the mind,
Body,
And spirit to a new state of warriorship.
I'd like to begin closing this session with an affirmation.
Please mentally repeat this affirmation with me.
To live by choice,
Not by chance.
To be motivated,
Not manipulated.
To be useful,
Not used.
To make changes,
Not excuses.
To excel,
Not compete.
I choose self-esteem,
Not self-pity.
I choose to listen to my inner voice,
Not to the random opinions of others.
I choose to do the things that you won't,
So I can continue to do the things you can't.
Namaste.
