Good morning,
Everyone.
Good evening,
Good afternoon,
Wherever you are,
And welcome to this week's Weekly Energy Boost.
My name is Ellie Sheva,
And I am here this gorgeous Monday morning to talk to you about navigating change with Daniel Naur.
Not about navigating change with him,
But I'm here to talk with him.
Well,
Maybe we'll start with that.
How does Daniel help me navigate change in my personal life,
Which he does.
The Weekly Energy Boost is your seven-day spiritual weather forecast where we've actually been focusing on monthly themes to equip our listeners with the most powerful and practical tools to surf the waves of opportunities and potential challenges every week so that you can really make the most not only of the week at hand,
But really to take these lessons and these tools into your lives to use anytime.
And the reason we're focusing on navigating change is because this month,
Which is on the Kabbalistic calendar,
The month of Sagittarius,
The month of Kislev,
We're really gifted with the same abilities that Sagittarians have if we are aware of them and can tap into them.
And that's really one of our foci this month is helping all of the world absorb those positive qualities.
And one of the things that they are really great at is going with the flow.
Not only do they love change,
They thrive on it.
They seek out challenges.
They're inspired and empowered by obstacles.
Even as the words are coming out of my mouth,
It sounds like,
What?
What do you mean?
Excited about change.
Because I am clearly not a Sagittarius,
As you know,
Most of the people on this show are always,
Almost always,
Always,
Sometimes never Pisces,
Daniel's a Pisces as well.
I'm missing the third one.
Right.
And our tendency as human beings in general is to resist change.
I use the word resist because again,
There are some times where it's a beautiful,
Amazing opportunity and we're looking forward to the pay raise or the move to a nicer neighborhood.
And even though it might require stretch and doing things differently,
There are certain changes that we might run right into.
Most of the time,
Changes imposed upon us and we struggle with it.
And one of the things that we also are bringing in specifically to this week's episode is the emotional piece.
Is that one of the main difficulties we have around change is surfing the waves of emotions that come with change.
That our real resistance is often an emotional resistance and not a physical challenge or a mental challenge.
It's really an emotional challenge.
Can I let go of what was and embrace what's coming?
I actually,
If it's okay with you,
Daniel,
I want to share what happened to me.
Real life,
Real life example of surfing the waves of change.
As you know,
If you've watched the show even once or twice before,
Usually I am here with David.
And comically so.
Every few weeks I get a text on Sunday.
We go live on Mondays.
I get a text on Sunday.
Sunday nights.
It's usually Sunday nights.
And they shove a,
I can't come tomorrow.
Well,
Last,
Okay,
Let's be real.
Yesterday it started with,
I think I need to drive by myself to usually drive in the car together.
He said,
I think I'm going to have to drive by myself.
And already there's an uh-oh.
I already have that feeling in my stomach.
And then I'm like,
Okay,
No problem.
See you tomorrow.
And then I get a text.
Well,
I'm not really sure I can come.
And I said something snide,
Of course,
Because.
.
.
You must give him that.
He prepares you slowly though.
It's not a slap upside the head.
It's first a poke and then a prod and then a slap.
So I told him,
I didn't say anything.
And then I said,
As I often do,
I would like to punch you in the face,
But I know that the universe knows much better how to hit you where it counts.
Unfortunately,
I do know about cause and effect.
Yes.
Yes.
I'm going to leave it to God.
And he sent me a funny emoji and then I was like,
Okay,
Are you not,
Are you coming or not?
And this is probably about,
It's definitely in the PM.
I don't know that it's,
It's not evening yet,
But it's afternoon.
And he's like,
No,
I can't come.
And well,
Let's leave David's part in that.
And so I just want to take you through the waves of emotions I go through.
Well,
Tell us next week his perspective on it.
Right.
We'll interview him on how it was for him to experience those texts with me.
So first,
Of course,
I was like,
Why do I do this?
Every time he does this to me,
I can't take it anymore.
I'm going to fire him.
I don't have the ability to fire him,
But you know,
I,
Why do I do this?
I got into this whole,
I guess I went first through anger and then frustration.
And then I was hurt.
Like,
Why does he do this to me?
I can't again and again and again.
It's so I can't.
And then,
Right.
And by the way,
This is probably over the course of 90 seconds or so.
I want to make,
I want to,
I do want to make that clear.
It wasn't like I ruined my Sunday over it.
It was kind of like,
Um,
You know,
Almost being on a roller coaster,
You know,
Like that,
That I'm getting angry and then I'm frustrated.
And then as we're going through the loop de loop,
Suddenly I'm,
I'm hurt and I realize I'm holding onto the hurt from the 80,
000 times he's done it before.
And then I said,
You know what?
Obviously the universe thinks someone else should be on the show tomorrow and I wasn't open to having someone else on the show tomorrow.
So David had to have other plans in order to get Daniel onto the show.
And so the,
And then I was excited and then I realized this is the perfect topic for Daniel and it became a excitement and curiosity and anticipation instead of the anger,
Frustration and hurts.
And I share that because I think one of the things we want to,
To run throughout today's episode is there's no such thing as bad emotions,
Right?
As we go through change in our lives,
We are bound to not only feel,
But also uncover old feelings of anger,
Hurt,
Blame,
Resentment.
All of those emotions are there for a reason and don't have to hold us down.
Don't have to weigh us down.
They can serve us.
They can propel us into something else.
And my,
My realization was,
And maybe this is a bit too honest,
Is if I'm honest,
I like when things go my way.
Right.
And I know that I'm probably the only one in the room that has that.
I like when things go my way and that things are in order and go according to plan and are predictable.
I like things that are predictable.
I'd like a good four year old.
And that was just an opportunity to go to my next level of going with the flow.
And the truth is,
I know some of my students who are listening have heard me say this probably 20 times this year.
We,
In life,
We are used to going with the flow when we need to,
Right?
Something happens and change of plans,
We got to go with the flow.
I really think that if there's one lesson of 2021,
Forget about 2020,
2021 is you can't go with the flow anymore.
You have to live in the flow.
There is no,
There's nothing static anymore.
There's nothing stable,
Nothing firm.
It's simply,
I don't know,
Kinetic sand just kind of moving us through.
Maybe it's an ocean,
But it's,
There's no being fixed on something,
Having attachment to something.
It not only no longer serves us,
It literally hurts us.
Oh yeah.
And you will experience it right away.
I think the time between cause and effect and how long we were able to allow ourselves to have illusion,
Like these type of attachments that are really illusions because you cannot control through being attached to anything.
They're all fading away.
They're all fading away.
And it's a huge,
It's sometimes painful,
But at the same time,
It's a huge gift as well,
Because I think there isn't many bigger blessings than the ability to,
Like you said,
Living in the flow.
It's like,
It's such a liberating feeling.
We have glimpses of that,
Right?
Including ourselves.
We're not constantly in that mode,
But when we are,
Isn't that the best feeling in the world?
Well,
But that's what happened to me yesterday is I realized that the universe was saying Elisheva you're the structure,
Too much structure.
You're holding onto the sides of the boat.
You've got to let go and start surfing.
And that comes from the ability for you even to see it comes because you know,
You're Kabbalah teacher and like you're aware,
Right?
You're self aware.
So when we're aware of our tycoon,
Our correction,
The things that we need to navigate around and came in this world to transform,
Then we see the things and what they're coming to teach us.
So we can take that as a lesson.
And I want to piggyback on something very important that you said in the beginning of this,
Which is the flow of emotions that you felt in the span amount of time of 90 seconds.
And there are some emotions that come and go.
There's some emotions that stick with us a little bit longer.
But I think the key here,
The key that you really also talked about here,
And I want to pinpoint that and talk maybe a little bit about that,
Is the idea to slow down and to allow ourselves to feel our emotions,
Allowing ourselves to become aware of what's actually going on inside of us.
Because the external circumstance,
The events,
The things that are triggering us,
Whether someone says,
You know,
I cannot come to the show or someone says,
Hey,
Listen,
You know,
A change of plans.
School's canceled tomorrow.
School's canceled.
Wow.
I think it's the first year for our school that veterans stay.
There's no school.
That was a throw off for us.
I think it's the first time it's on a Thursday and not on a Monday.
Usually it's on a Monday and we get a long weekend and we're okay with it.
Yeah.
Well,
My wife and I is like,
Oh,
We didn't know about that.
Surprise.
So the key here is not because our nature,
Our reactive nature is trying to control the situation,
The circumstances,
But the key is,
Right,
Is to look inside and to see what am I actually experiencing?
What are the emotions?
What are the emotions?
The guilt,
Shame.
Well,
That was what was new to me because I managed to breathe a little bit.
I realized I'm hurt.
Like,
Ouch,
You let me down.
And that was new to me because I'm used to the anger and frustration.
But what was new is that it became,
You know,
Maybe it was that I allowed myself to sit there for a minute and be open to what was the real message.
And then I was actually able to see underneath the frustration was actually you're my friend and you let me down.
Yeah.
Which was new to me.
I don't know that I ever paid attention to that before.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So your ability,
Right,
To sit with it led you to the conclusion,
Which was proactive to help you to deal with it in a proactive way.
And if you don't mind me sharing also something that someone emailed me today,
I'm actually part in the mentoring the class of David Guillem Cabala 1.
And someone asked about fears and they brought up something that they thought was a silly fear.
And I answered the question and she was very grateful for that.
She sent me an email maybe a week or two ago,
Which I like to read for you.
And then I saw it as a sign because she emailed me today again,
Just before the show.
And it's about fear.
And the show was about that too.
So,
And I think we can learn from that.
That's why I want to read from about it.
So she says,
Fear though is a big thing for me.
So tackling it in a pure form seemed like a good idea.
And I started right away last night.
It turns out,
And this is interesting what she says.
It turns out that I'm not afraid of the movie as much as I am because she was afraid of horror movies,
You know,
Who isn't?
I mean,
Some people get a kick out of it,
But that was a discussion.
So she said,
I'm not afraid of the movie as much as I'm afraid of feeling fear.
So it was more about the actual,
The fear of feeling fear,
To allow herself and ourselves to feel the emotion.
And how many times are we afraid of actually allowing ourselves to feel feelings?
And it doesn't need to be only fear.
It can be hurt.
I think I relate to that a lot because I think there's a part of me that wants to be better than that.
Like I'm not going to lower myself and let him hurt me or disappoint me.
And the truth is that's part of my understanding.
And hopefully we'll get to share more about this,
But it's like the ability that we have to feel those emotions actually can,
It makes me more of a human being.
I mean,
You know what I mean?
Like I'm denying my humanity by saying I'm not hurt or nothing bothers me.
It does bother me.
And that's what makes me more of a human being,
More empathetic,
More compassionate,
More relatable.
And so it's almost like by not going there and also this person by not being okay with sitting in her fear a little bit,
It actually deprives me or her of another experience.
And I think she kind of shared a little bit more.
Yeah.
So this morning she emailed me,
That's like a week or two after.
It was just sitting with my hands mostly over my eyes,
Freaking out like I normally would at a scary movie.
I don't think I would be doing,
It would be doing me much good,
But my intention the whole time.
So while she's watching the movies,
By the way,
Not recommended to everybody,
Like to break your fear.
We're not saying that this is your assignment for the week.
What she's saying,
But my intention the whole time is to sit with my fear and not to react.
And I pray for help a lot.
And that seemed to make all the difference.
I'm not even having any nightmares.
And I used to have nightmares if I saw a commercial for a scary movie.
So this notion,
This idea of sitting with a fear,
Sitting with emotion and to truly identify,
It's interesting.
Now I remember last night I read my daughter an emotion book,
A book about emotions.
And in the book,
Right,
They give you all kinds of what are the signs in your body as to what are you feeling actually.
And it's so interesting because we don't need it just as not only kids need it,
But we need it,
Right?
To actually notice and even feel in our body that that's many times a sign or can show us,
Is it getting hot?
Is it warm?
Is it cold?
Am I tense?
Like what am I actually feeling?
Like what are the signs of what I'm feeling?
And actually finding it because we think feeling an emotion is very simple,
Right?
And we like to make it very broad.
Like I'm feeling,
How you feel?
I'm feeling good.
I'm feeling bad,
Right?
And even about fear,
There's so many ways to describe it,
Right?
The fear.
What kind of fear,
Right?
There's nervousness,
There's being anxious,
There's worry,
There's fear,
Right?
So to actually noticing what am I actually feeling and experiencing is the first step to actually process it right.
And then when I can process it,
Then I can also overcome it and I can go past that.
But the first step is actually to allow myself to feel it and to know what the feeling actually is.
And I like what you said about,
Like you were able to turn around that emotion of maybe rejection or resentment to excitement,
Right?
And before the pandemic,
I used to,
One of my hobbies and I loved,
I used to take improv classes and improv,
I think for me,
Is such a great example of how to take lack of control,
Nervousness,
Anxiousness,
And turn it around and make it actually enjoyable.
Because every time I went to the class,
My heart was racing.
I was like,
I couldn't stand it.
Like it's not really enjoyable before,
Right?
You're afraid of it because in improv you cannot plan,
Right?
By design,
You talked about predictability and you like planning things.
There it's by nature the exact opposite.
Like you're not supposed to at all.
If you plan,
You lose the game,
Right?
So improv is improvisation in creating a scene without a script,
Right?
So you come in there and then two people,
Three people standing there and you don't know where it's going to go,
Right?
So your starting point is,
I don't know.
Your starting point is no clue.
Your starting point is unknown,
Doubt,
Fear,
Anxious.
Am I going to fail?
And for sure,
So the whole actually culture of embracing failure,
Embracing failure,
Right?
Because a lot of the fears is like,
I'm going to fail.
I'm going to mess this up.
I'm going to,
So the ability,
Because we can practice this improv in life all the time.
We can take this and say,
You know what?
Yeah.
And I'm going to turn it around.
I'm going to turn around this feeling of anxiousness or unknown.
Who said I need to stay with that?
I can turn it around into an excitement.
I can turn it around into laughter about my failure,
Right?
We can turn everything around if we change our perspective on it.
You said two,
I've been taking notes.
You said two things that I want to ride on in a minute.
The first one is the unknown and the,
You know,
Of course you can look at everything that's happened in the last couple of years as evidence that we're right,
That there's more unknown than there is known.
That the trap,
And this is the second thing I want to talk about is belief systems.
But we believe,
The fact that we believe we're in control,
That I believe I'm organizing everything.
It's all set in place.
It's going to go according to my plan.
I have it all thought out.
That is false.
That is in Kabbalah,
We call it an illusion.
It's my illusion that I am in control.
I am dictating the course of the program.
I am dictating the course of my day.
And once we begin to embrace that,
Not that I'm out of control,
Because I think that's something people fear immensely.
I'm always able to control myself,
My responses,
My perceptions,
But I'm not in control of what's happening outside me.
Even when things go according to my plan,
They're not under my control.
I actually,
I remember one of the teachers in the center saying at one point,
You know,
The fact that things go according to my plan,
I need to be concerned how much the light is involved.
Whereas when things don't go according to my plan,
At least then I know the light has taken over.
You know,
For sure.
For sure.
And that's actually a great sign then.
Right.
And we don't remember it,
Or it's hard to remember when we're attached to the process,
The procedure and the outcome.
And so I think part of what we can gain from this week being,
You know,
It's just funny thinking about all the connections to what we're talking about here.
This week,
The opportunity is really to flip the things that we perceive as comfortable,
Safe,
Risk-free.
It's really,
It's not.
And there's nothing that's not risk-free.
Everything is inherently risky.
I think the riskiest thing we do is not take those risks.
Yeah.
That's it.
Maybe even the word is dangerous,
Right?
Allowing ourselves to be caged in by the emotions and the belief systems around the emotions.
That's the only danger.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And think about the missed opportunities,
Right?
Like in hindsight,
We always look back and say,
Oh,
If I would only known,
Right?
Even business,
Career investment,
Right?
Like about choosing certain stocks,
Right?
And then you see them going high and like,
Oh,
If would have invested in like five years ago,
Right?
So emotions come in and go out,
Like to be present enough to notice it.
Right.
But you're talking about belief systems,
Right?
In what regard did you?
We,
I mean,
Your,
The,
The email that you read,
The person that you were working with in the Kabbalah 1 class,
Her belief was that this is a silly fear.
Right.
My belief around being hurt is,
I don't know if it's immature or it's not spiritual or I should be bigger than that.
I shouldn't let it bother me,
Right?
Belief systems usually come with a should,
Right?
I should,
Or I shouldn't,
They should,
Or they shouldn't.
And shifting those belief systems around our emotions is really where the gifts are because the moment I,
I,
The moment I can shift my,
This is the end of the world to,
This is a gift from the creator who may,
David's not supposed to be on the show.
Why would I want to force him to be there?
And I don't mean,
I really not hanging onto this,
But I think it's a great example.
And I want to,
I actually read something in this morning and fear is not an option that I wanted to share,
Which is about this idea that we can actually train ourselves to think differently about our beliefs,
About our emotions.
So it's this concept that,
Well,
I'm just going to read it because it'll explain itself.
There are two basic mindsets we fall into that shape our lives.
In a fixed mindset,
Your abilities,
Intelligence,
And talents are static.
Like a computer program that is loaded into your brain at birth,
It runs involuntarily and remains the same.
In a growth mindset,
Those same abilities,
Intelligence,
And talents are honed and strengthened through learning and experience.
A growth mindset is geared towards constant evolution and a fixed mindset is geared,
Geared towards constant validation.
Much of our understanding of this concept comes from the work of renowned Stanford psychologist,
Carol Dweck.
The hallmark difference between these two mindsets is that one views failure as devastation and the other sees failure as opportunity.
As you begin a path of uncovering and eliminating your fears,
Ask yourself,
What mindset am I operating from?
If you're not sure,
Take a look at the list of qualities for each.
And I'm going to slow this down a little bit because I think it's important,
Especially this week,
That we recognize which are we anchored to and move towards shifting into,
Well,
I'm going to take the liberty of assuming we're much more fixed than we are growth mindset,
But let's have a look.
Okay.
Fixed mindset.
Avoids challenges.
Finds obstacles to be overwhelming and is prone to giving up.
Views efforts as fruitless.
Is defensive or ignores negative feedback.
Feels threatened by the success of others.
Okay.
Growth mindset embraces challenges.
Persists in the face of setbacks.
Views effort as the path to success.
Learns from and integrates feedback.
And finds lessons and inspiration from the success of others.
So as you hear those,
Um,
And here,
I'll just continue the last few lines.
If you find yourself resonating with the fixed mindset,
Do not fret.
In fact,
Get excited.
Switching the gears from fixed to growth requires only an openness and a willingness to do so.
Within a fixed mindset,
The beliefs around what is possible for you are extremely limited and based in fear.
Fear of appearing inadequate,
Unintelligent,
Irresponsible,
Worthy.
As you work to remove those fears,
You'll automatically adopt a growth mindset and along with it,
A new perspective,
Which is where our work of eliminating fears begins.
So to me,
That's really a great way to measure how open-minded I am,
How,
What,
By the way,
The research goes on to explain that as you shift to growth mindset,
Your neuroplasticity changes.
Like this is actually something on a biological level that shifts that our neurons become more flexible,
Almost more liquid and begin to adapt differently because,
You know,
Let's say for example,
Um,
David tells me he's not coming to the,
To the show.
Keep on going on that one.
So maybe the me from five years ago would have actually gone to his house,
Punched him.
I don't know because I believe that my way is the highway or the only way and there is no alternative and not meeting my expectations is failure.
Yeah.
The growth mindset me is may have a moment of reaction,
But then shifts into where's the opportunity,
How can we grow from this?
I'm excited to see because whatever the result is,
It's going to be much better than I was trying to strong arm into happening.
Yeah.
You know what it sounded to me,
The feeling that I got when you read about the fixed mindset and the growth mindset,
It felt to me like the fixed mindset is,
It feels like dying.
If you put it this way,
Right?
It feels like when it's fixed,
There's no growth really spiritually it's,
It sounds like suicide to me,
Even though,
Even though it's very comfortable,
Right?
And seemingly in control,
But really spiritually it's,
It's spiritual suicide.
It's spiritual suicide because we have no other way.
We're here to grow,
Right?
We're here to expand our vessel.
We have so much more potential than we think we do.
We have and whether we want it or not,
Right?
The in Kabbalah,
We call it surrounding light,
Which is our potential,
Which is all the light that is potential and not manifested yet.
It will push us.
It will push us to grow.
And many times the weight will do so is by little opportunities showing up.
So when things not going our way,
That's why I love that example that you shared,
Right?
Like it's a,
It's a sign.
It's like the creators in the business.
This is exactly living your purpose.
And so to,
To even just to pause and to notice that,
And then to,
To put a smile on our face and said,
Okay,
I still feel the anxiety or the anxiousness or upsetness,
But at least I know I have an awareness that it's geared towards growth.
It gears towards goodness.
And I think after a while we were able to actually develop a form of looking forward to it,
Right?
Looking forward to it.
Like I'm starting tomorrow,
A workshop that I've never done before.
And if you ask me right now,
Yes,
I'm,
I'm,
I'm nervous about it.
I'm nervous about it because I don't know how it's going to go.
I never did it really before.
Am I going to make mistakes?
How is it going to be perceived?
Et cetera,
Et cetera,
Et cetera.
So I still have that and maybe forever we'll have aspects of it,
But I think I trained myself relatively often enough to put myself in a place where I'm looking forward to do new things.
I'm looking forward to be creative.
I'm looking,
I'm curious.
That's the word.
I'm curious to try something new,
Even if it's going to fail,
Even if it's not going to work out the way I've planted,
Because I know that's how we're growing,
Right?
So I,
I,
I'm somewhat able to turn around,
Not always successful,
Somewhat able to,
To turn this nervousness or anxiety around into curiosity,
Into being creative and being playful with it.
And,
And,
And let's see what comes from that.
Right.
I relate to that a lot.
I mean,
I,
I,
I had brought a student onto the podcast,
Won't out them and tell you who it was.
And she said something to the fact of,
You know,
I can't wait till,
Till I get to be as relaxed about this as you are.
And I was like,
What gives you any indication that I'm relaxed?
She said,
Well,
You've been doing this forever.
I said,
I have heart palpitations every time I have a mic attached,
You know,
Like it doesn't for me.
And I'm saying,
Not in a,
I,
I relate to it because I'm not afraid of it.
I actually look forward to it because yes,
I've given,
There's certain classes I've given hundreds of times.
It never comes out the same way.
It's never to the same,
Like there's so many variables that it really never is the same,
Same class twice,
Even if the content and the outline of the class is the same,
But also the,
The whole idea of living in the flow really is,
Is very much about desiring to speak the right words at the right time,
Which you can't really script.
Like you said with the improv,
If you,
If it's scripted,
It's not improv,
You're not playing the game right.
And at the same time to also be,
To have that level of certainty that even though I'm nervous,
I also know that it's going to be exactly the way it's going to be.
That no,
Because this particular person likes to be prepared.
Funny why I tracked those people into my life as well.
Like,
You know,
Goes over it a million times,
Has the notes ready.
And then that's to me also how I like to work is that I'm prepared,
But then I push the notes to the side and I hope that everything that's stored will come out at the right place at the right time,
Et cetera.
But the other thing that I wanted to make sure that we leave time for,
And maybe it's a good segue into because it's a combination of everything is that we talk,
We've spoken for millennia.
The wisdom of Kabbalah has always given time and words to the idea that change is the only constant.
That really the nature of the universe and the wisdom of Kabbalah,
Even the very practical and profound,
Relevant wisdom that we talk about that means so much and helps us so much today,
It's really rooted.
The whole wisdom of Kabbalah is based on creation.
By understanding the way that the universe came into existence,
We can understand how we created this challenge in our lives or how to overcome a particular situation because there's nothing new under the sun.
It's simply a reproduction.
That came out wrong.
What is it?
What's the right word?
Yes,
Elisha.
What would you like to tell us?
Reproduction.
Also reproduction,
But we'll save that for another episode.
It's a recreation.
Same thing of something that's already happened.
In this physical reality where we are very dependent upon facts,
Data,
Stability,
Predictability,
If you think about I'm diagnosing society,
I'm not talking about us personally,
But human nature,
I believe it comes from the human need for self-preservation,
We thrive on predictability where we think we thrive.
We want to know the patterns of the weather so that we can plant our crops at the right time.
We want to know,
I don't know the,
I'm trying to think of a better example other than climate and weather,
Even the tides.
If a fisherman is going to get the right fish caught in their nets,
They need to know when is the spawning and the mating and the swimming up.
We can talk about nature.
Nature follows the laws of the universe much better than people do.
If change is the only constant,
How do we,
And again,
I brought back the creation thing is because creation is constantly happening.
You bake a cake yesterday,
That was creation.
You had a meaningful conversation with someone.
There was the creation story in that.
It all goes through that same spiritual procedure.
If change is the only constant,
How can we make plans for the future?
How do we set goals for ourselves?
If I don't know what's going to happen tomorrow,
And going back again to the idea that even if you think you know what's going to happen tomorrow,
You don't actually know what's going to happen tomorrow,
How can you plan,
Make investments,
Choose a school?
There's so many day to day things that we do.
I don't mean plan what you're going to eat for dinner,
Which also may change,
But the things that take the long term planning and investigation and weighing options,
How can we be spiritual about making our plans and goals when change is so inevitable?
Yeah.
Two things that come to my mind about this.
Number one,
As you were talking,
I was thinking about the Kabbalah throughout time and the lineage,
Even all the way to the Kabbalah center and the way Kabbalah has been brought to the world throughout time has changed tremendously,
Obviously,
Right?
So you're saying there's always,
Creation is always happening and change is always constant.
So it depends also on the generations,
Right?
There's different generations,
Different times,
Different openings.
So here's an example,
Right?
So in the past to,
Let's say,
Thousands of years ago,
To keep on bringing this wisdom to others,
It was from word of mouth,
Right?
From teacher,
Student,
Teacher,
Student,
Teacher,
Student.
Then even if we take the history of the Kabbalah center,
In the beginning,
The way to get it out there,
People knocked on doors,
Right?
To spread this wisdom to others.
And then the ways have changed,
Right?
Technology evolves,
Right?
So phone technology,
Et cetera,
And even the way it's been shared,
Right?
The language has changed,
Right?
So there's a lot of change in how this,
I'm just taking it as an example,
Yes?
And how this wisdom was brought to the world and to others,
But something never changed,
Which is the essence of the wisdom,
Right?
The wisdom hasn't changed,
The light inside of it,
And the wisdom hasn't changed,
But the way it needs to be brought out to the world has to change and evolve.
The thing is that,
And now bring it us to related to our lives.
If we don't change and evolve and stay present and tuned to what's around us,
What's even the generation like,
What's going on in the world,
What then,
And we try to hold on to what has worked 10 years ago,
50 years ago,
It's like everything is moving so much faster.
We're going to not just stay behind,
But we're going to see a lot of pain and chaos in our lives,
Right?
So now to your next question about how to plan.
I think the first step is being aware that I need to be part of that constant rejuvenation process.
I need to reinvent and rejuvenate myself.
I cannot do the same thing all the time and be predictable with that because time moves forward,
Everything moves forward,
Everything evolves and changes.
Now how to make plans,
That's a good question,
Right?
And doing those times,
Especially everything goes faster and faster and everything changes,
Nothing is predictable.
I would say first step,
Not to be too fixated.
I think our teacher Karen Burke once said,
The center never had a five-year plan or ten-year plan,
But there was always the idea and the desire,
Okay,
There's a higher plan,
There's the creator's plan,
This wisdom needs to get out there and I'm going to make myself available for that.
I want to be the channel to bring this wisdom to the world.
Now we might not all have this particular goal,
But I have a goal in my business,
I have a goal in,
I have a project,
I want to grow my family.
Like the creator gave me this,
I want to be of service,
I want to be a channel for that.
How,
What,
When?
A lot of these factors are not going to be in my control and I have to have a relationship,
A strong relationship with the universe,
With the creator in order to have the confidence to even move forward.
But definitely there has to be,
We need to start somewhere.
So we cannot say,
Oh,
I'm going to leave it up to the creator and only if the creator comes and tells me a message,
Then I'm going to move forward.
Until then I'm just going to sit around and wait.
So we can always,
And I do this personally,
I have this prayer or this request when I want to plan something or start something,
I have a goal.
I set a goal.
We live in a goal-orientated world.
We live in the world what the Kabbalists called the world of action,
Right?
There's different emanations and worlds and spiritual realms in our world.
Malchut,
Physicality,
Is also called in Kabbalistic language the world of action.
So we need to apply action,
We need to take action,
We need to plan to some degree and have goals.
So what I would always recommend,
Suggest what I do,
Is okay,
Let me set a goal,
Whatever it is,
In my career,
In my family,
With relationships,
Whatever goals I have,
Big or small.
And to have this open line of communication with the creator,
Where I say,
Okay,
This is from my perspective,
What I can understand and see,
This is the direction that I want to go,
This is the goal that I have.
And almost like a prayer or request to say,
God,
Universe,
Light of the creator,
Whatever we want to call it,
If I'm limiting here,
Please take it away.
Give me your vision,
Your dream,
Your goal,
Something much bigger.
If there's something that I don't see,
Please show me,
Right?
So in other words,
Always leaving the opening for something bigger,
For something better,
For a complete change of direction.
By the way,
That's a great exercise to do,
To even in our head,
Right?
Just to show,
Am I willing,
Like the willingness to let go completely?
Like I want to go in direction to right,
And I'm planning to put all my efforts in right,
Or A.
And I'm going to strive,
I'm going to work hard for A,
But before I'm going to go ahead and make plans and go in that direction,
For a second,
In my mind,
I want to tell the creator,
God,
If you want me,
If you think A or right is the wrong way,
I'm willing,
I'm willing.
And it's an interesting question or exercise to do in our mind.
I'm willing to throw it all away because I have zero personal agenda.
I want to do what you want me to do.
You know the bigger plan.
I know what I want,
But I don't know what I need.
And I'm willing to throw it all away and I'm willing to go left,
Right?
And I think if we're practicing this in our mind and keep that balance inside of us,
Then we'll see more balance,
More equilibrium in our life when it comes to designing,
Creating,
Planning,
While moving forward.
I think that the other side of the same coin is that in our making plans and in our,
You know,
Sometimes you have to commit also.
It's not just envisioning what I want to do.
Sometimes you have to put a deposit or you have to,
You know,
There's a commitment that needs to be made.
It's also in knowing that through this action,
Even if it's an expense,
Right,
Which I think a lot of people are worried about,
You know,
Should I move to a different state or a different country?
There are big decisions people are making here that I'm going to go forward in the way that I see is right right now.
And like Daniel said,
With the consciousness of I want to see if it's best,
I want to know.
I don't want,
I don't want to be so fixated upon what I want that I don't recognize something even better.
And at the same time,
And this is an annoying word in itself,
I want to be flexible enough going back to that growth mindset idea that when when change happens,
I'm not so attached to what I wanted,
That I can't enjoy the actual reality.
And I'm thinking of something,
You know,
It happened to me also many years ago,
When my big kids were younger,
And they were applying to high schools and colleges,
It's very hard not to want what you want.
It was a great exercise for us.
I actually think I experienced more stress in that time than I did my own self applying to colleges and trying to get in and stuff like that.
Checking the mailbox every day.
You know,
It's like you apply to and I'm using this example,
You can apply it to finding a house,
Finding a job,
I'm just using finding a school,
We applied to maybe seven schools,
We wanted three of them,
We didn't get any of the three we wanted,
We had to find an eighth school,
Ultimately,
It didn't work out.
He took a year off.
And then in the year off,
We found the best school that not only he got into,
He got a great scholarship,
And it was the best move of our lives.
But if he had been fixated on that path,
Or even my daughter came to me at some point and said,
This is what I want to do.
Are you okay with it?
Like she was almost like hiding because she was afraid I was going to explode,
That she's not taking the plan that we the path that we had planned out for her.
And I was so excited for her.
And she was like,
Are you sure?
Like she was so shocked that I was so open minded to her taking a detour.
And and I think that that's really,
You know,
We talk in the podcast and everything Kabbalah about how we were created to enjoy,
To be happy,
Our,
Our destiny is pure fulfillment.
And we're the ones who infringe on that with being attached to realities that don't come to fruition,
Being attached to plans or goals that don't manifest,
We're the ones causing that suffering.
And and I want to share with you,
I'm Daniel,
I'm going to give you a minute to think about what you want to say,
How you want to end the show,
I'm going to read you something else from fear is not an option that I really loved.
That I think is is totally related to what we're talking about being able to reframe,
Which I think is we didn't use that word yet.
But that's I think that's really what we're talking about is that if you reframe what's happening,
Then you can actually enjoy the change rather than be stuck on what is or isn't supposed to be happening.
So fear feeds off stagnation and blocks us from being our best.
It keeps us from taking advantage of the opportunities that present themselves to us.
Sometimes these opportunities are labeled miracles or luck,
But nothing just falls into your lap.
You need to be open to receive and if fear is present,
It can block you from not only realizing your full abilities,
But from any opportunity that comes your way.
Fortunately,
We have more control over our lives and we realize most people would not equate missed opportunities with fear.
We've adopted a very strange perception that opportunities are all about luck,
When in fact,
It is often fear that stops us from seeing those opportunities.
We adopt this mindset because it's easier to blame lack of circumstance than to do the work of removing fear.
And I'm going to repeat that again,
Because that's really,
I think,
An essential perspective shift.
We adopt this mindset,
The mindset that you people are lucky versus people make effort.
We adopt this mindset because it's easier to blame lack of circumstance than to do the work of removing fear and thereby changing our reality.
All this lucky versus unlucky thinking gets in our way.
Luck is a state of mind.
It's a way of thinking.
Luck is not a magical ability or a gift from God.
Remember the story about placing pennies over our eyes?
I guess that's a reference to earlier in the book.
Further,
It states in the Zohar that good and bad luck are simply codes for the principle of cause and effect.
Michael Berg states,
We create our own luck through our behavior and interactions with other people.
Actions that are selfish,
Abusive,
Or inconsiderate propagate misfortune in our lives,
Which means we mistakenly interpret as bad luck.
Don't settle for the idea that you're an unlucky person.
Let this understanding empower you,
Knowing you have the potential to be great,
And greatness entails a commitment to yourself to overcome the challenges and not be overcome by them.
Love that.
Closing thoughts,
Daniel Knauer.
Closing thoughts.
I have a deep one.
Yes.
I have a deep one.
Go for it.
Maybe it's going to be a mic drop.
We could elaborate a lot on it,
But I'm just going to let the audience sit with it.
So there's a Kabbalistic saying that says that there's a balance in fear because fear is not all bad.
There's a good thing in fear.
The obvious one is like protecting us from harm,
But there's another type of fear that is important to build up a healthy type of fear,
Which is the fear of being disconnected from the light of the Creator,
Being disconnected from the higher good.
In Kabbalah,
We learn that the more we proactively build up that healthy fear,
Being,
I don't want to be disconnected from my soul,
And therefore I'll behave in certain ways with kindness,
With love,
Et cetera.
The more we have that fear,
It's actually directly related to all the other fears we have.
So the more we build up that healthy fear,
Which is not wanting to be disconnected from the light from my soul,
Other fears will automatically fade out.
I will be less afraid of what people think of me.
I'll be less afraid of the unknown.
I'll be less afraid of the future,
Worry about.
So those unhealthy fears are actually a result of not having enough of the healthy fear.
That's it.
Boom,
Boom,
Boom.
