Hi friends,
I made this meditation to help you create a habit of gratefulness.
Gratefulness in my opinion is not about being happy about extraordinary things in life but about acknowledging and being content with everyday things.
One of my favorite facts that I've read about gratefulness is that our brain uses up 20% of our calories.
How is this related to gratefulness you might ask?
Well,
Our brain is so busy multitasking and trying to get us from point A to point B and achieving our next goal that it hyper focuses.
It filters out things from our perception that it deems irrelevant for the sake of energy efficiency.
However,
These seemingly irrelevant things are what actually make up most of our lives.
An example I'll offer you to illustrate this is when I go mountain biking in the desert.
During my rides I'm always focused on going fast and looking forward to the next corner.
If I don't stop and take a look every once in a while I would miss the beautiful wildlife around me.
Keep this in mind for our meditation.
Let's begin.
Sit down in your favorite place to find peace and connect.
Take a long inhale and exhale out.
Tune into sensations of your body.
Notice if there's any places with tension or pain.
Now bring some extra awareness to these places.
If there are multiple parts of your body that feel tender or painful,
Pick the body part with the biggest ailment.
Notice what your general attitude is towards this body part.
Do any adjectives come to mind?
How do you normally talk about this part of your body?
Now think of three things that this body part allows you to accomplish.
Take a deep inhale and exhale.
On the exhale send love and compassion to this place.
Good.
Now envision yourself in your favorite nature backdrop.
Maybe it's a forest,
A mountaintop,
Or a prairie,
Or a sandy beach in front of the ocean.
Picture that it's a beautiful day and you can feel the sun gently on your skin.
You look up and see white fluffy clouds overhead and then look around at the beauty of the nature that surrounds you.
In this scenario,
How do you feel?
Now let's explore if there's a way to feel similarly in your everyday surroundings.
Picture yourself walking out your door and doing the same thing,
Noticing everyday beauty that normally goes unnoticed.
Look around,
Take an inhale and exhale out.
How do you feel in this scenario?
To finish,
Repeat the following statements to yourself.
I appreciate my body for all the things it allows me to do every day.
I am thankful for all the people that bring positive energy into my life.
I'm grateful for the abundance of love in my life.
I appreciate all the wisdom that my experiences have given me.
I'm fortunate that each day brings me the opportunity to grow.
Thank you so much for listening.
Have a great rest of the day.
You
