This visualization meditation uses the metaphor of a tree to help you realize what it is you no longer want to carry with you, and what it is you do want to hold onto. A beautiful meditation for life transitions and changing of the seasons. Let me help you let go so that you can create space for what is truly meant for you.

Welcome to your letting go meditation.

Take a moment to get comfortable wherever you're at,

In a chair,

On the floor,

Or in your bed.

Just try to do your best to eliminate anything that might become a distraction throughout your practice.

Find a comfortable seat,

A comfortable posture.

And once you get there,

Start to soften your eyes to a close.

Take a deep breath,

Sighing it out your mouth,

Letting out any sounds or any sort of exhales that want to move through,

Perhaps even any final bit of movement before we enter this time of stillness.

Let your body begin to relax.

Let your body begin to release any holding,

Any gripping that might still be present.

Noticing if your toes are clenching the earth,

If your muscles are tight,

Or if you can soften a little bit more throughout your face.

And just start to feel the weight of your body on the earth.

Offering the weight of your body to the earth,

Allow yourself to be supported.

Start to notice your breath,

Just following it as it comes in through your nose.

Just noticing where you feel your breath the most in your body,

Noticing the quality of the breath today,

This moment.

Without judgment,

Just with observation and curiosity,

Noticing how you are arriving to this moment.

Then start to imagine that you're growing roots down from your sit bones,

Or your feet,

Or the root of your spine,

Down deep into the earth.

With every breath,

Growing your roots deeper,

More connected,

Strongly into the earth.

And from this connection with the earth,

Begin to grow tall along your spine,

Sides of your waist,

Up through the crown of your head.

Or if you're lying down,

Just finding a little more length through your body.

And just like a little seedling growing up into a big tree,

Starting to imagine yourself growing into this tree.

As you find length in your body,

As you find a little more space between your vertebrae,

Between your bones,

Imagining and visualizing what type of tree you would be,

What you'd look like,

What size you'd be,

How old and wise,

Or maybe a young new sapling.

And then imagining the qualities,

The colors,

Characteristics of this tree that you are.

Imagining the texture of your bark,

Color of your leaves.

Imagining,

Visualizing,

Feeling your strong,

Sturdy foundation of your trunk.

Just feeling what it feels like to be a tree.

Feeling the wind rustle through your leaves.

Maybe even imagining for one moment where you are in the world.

Where do you live?

Where do you grow?

Taking a moment to reflect on this context,

This environment that you live.

It could be imaginary,

It doesn't have to be exactly where you are now.

Allowing yourself to be creative,

Be playful.

Then reflecting on all of the seasons and transitions you've gone through as a tree in your lifetime.

The days when the warm sun kissed your bark and leaves,

Or the days of harsh wind,

Sometimes heavy rain pouring down,

Watering you,

Helping you grow a few more branches,

A few more leaves here and there.

All of the seasons helping you grow and expand in their own way.

Perhaps imagining what season you are living through right now.

Taking a moment to acknowledge and honor each and every one of these seasons for how they have served you,

And how they have helped you become this strong,

Wise,

Beautiful tree that you are.

That so many people come to admire,

To rest under,

To climb your branches,

To eat your fruit.

And all the while you remained here,

A constant for others,

Though you have gone through many changes for yourself.

Breathing into this space,

Remembering to come back to your breath through this visualization.

And as you breathe,

Imagining that you are growing more branches out of your torso,

Out of your limbs.

Every breath you take,

A new branch growing from your side,

From your back or from your front,

Breathing life into these branches.

And starting to grow more leaves out of your branches.

Maybe pine needles,

Maybe fruit or flowers if your tree has these things.

Whatever makes sense for your tree,

Breathing life into the color and texture of these leaves,

Imagining bright colors,

Imagining the smells,

Imagining the beauty of your tree as you grow.

And thinking of all of these leaves that you've grown,

That you've been growing,

That you're growing right now.

All of these leaves being all of the things you've done so far in this season,

In this year,

In this recent memory of time that you choose to reflect on.

Imagining these leaves,

This foliage,

Perhaps the fruit being all the things that you've done,

The ideas that you've harvested,

All of the seeds you've planted.

These leaves are all of the experiences you've had this last season of life.

All of the emotions you've felt,

Letting anything come to mind now,

Anything come to heart.

What is your tree filled with?

What is your mind,

Your soul,

Your heart filled with when you think about this past season of your life?

When you think about what currently takes up space on your branches,

The insights you've taken,

The lessons you've learned,

The people you've met,

All of the things that you might have gained and lost.

What are the most potent things that come to mind?

Perhaps narrowing in on just a few main things.

Reflecting on all of these things that have made you who you are today.

Noticing which leaves you would like to hold on to.

And which seeds of insight you would like to bring with you and replant into the next season.

And at the same time,

Noticing maybe which leaves you might be ready to leave behind or let go of and shed.

Beginning to notice as some of these leaves begin to shrivel,

Dry up,

Fall off your branches.

These leaves that you are ready to let go of.

They fall to the ground and you watch them as they gently ride along the wind,

Ride along the air to rest to the soil.

Knowing that in time they will make new soil,

Regenerate and create new life as well as new space on your branches.

Knowing that as these leaves fall,

You create new space for this cycle to continue.

You create new fertile soil for this cycle to continue.

Remembering that shedding and rebirth are all natural,

Inevitable parts of life.

And noticing what are these leaves that have fallen off of your tree?

What are these things that you are releasing,

Shedding from this last season of life?

What is it that you are ready to let go of,

To let die?

Letting all of these leaves fall,

Whichever ones are just beginning to shrivel up and turn brown,

Cutting that little twig and releasing it to the soil.

Knowing that it is going to replenish your roots and your trunk.

That is going to create space on your tree for new foliage to grow in the next season.

Letting go,

Letting go,

Letting go of what no longer serves you or your highest potential and your growth.

Letting go of any emotions,

Experiences,

Memories,

People.

With every exhale,

Letting go of one more leaf.

Letting go,

Letting go,

Letting go.

And watching as the day turns to night and your final leaves fall.

Breathing in and breathing out.

You begin to watch the sun rise from the horizon.

You start to feel on your branches the budding of new life,

Of new leaves or potentially flowers or fruit.

You start to observe the colors,

The fragrance,

The beauty,

Watching them grow.

Seeing this new budding life as all of the things that you want to either hold onto or bring with you into the next season of your life.

With every inhale,

Breathing life into these beautiful blossoms or perhaps supple,

Delicious,

Nourishing fruits.

Knowing that even each of these pieces of foliage will go through its own new cycle of death and renewed life one day as the seed goes on to grow a new tree.

Thinking about all the leaves you want to continue to carry on your tree,

That you want to continue to nurture,

To grow through your root system,

All of the people,

Experiences,

Emotions,

Ideas,

Wisdom and actions that you want to take with you into the next season.

All of this growing abundantly on your tree.

Thank you to the space that you created by letting go of those leaves that were ready to be released.

And some of these new leaves or flowers or fruits,

Perhaps turning into seeds of intention that you'll replant again in the next season.

Noticing how both the leaves dying and falling,

Turning into soil to regenerate your roots or the seeds floating away to bring life to a new plant,

As well as the leaves,

Flowers and fruit that stay on your tree,

Providing beauty and abundance,

Nourishment,

All serving a purpose.

All of it a part of a bigger cycle,

One part of the whole picture of your tree of life,

All of it necessary to you being this strong,

Beautiful,

Wise tree that you are.

Bringing your hands onto your heart and holding space here for all of this change,

All of this transition for the letting go,

The holding on,

The rebirthing and growth.

Holding space for this symbiotic cycle of life.

Taking a deep breath in,

Maybe the deepest breath you've taken all day.

And on your exhale,

Blowing in the air,

Just letting go of all of this.

Taking a deep breath in,

Maybe the deepest breath you've taken all day.

And on your exhale,

Blinking your eyes open,

Coming back into your space.

Thank you for joining me.
