Welcome to Zen parables with Ekta.
The essence of Zen is in reaching the silence behind sound,
The awareness behind thought.
When you listen to a Zen parable,
Many thoughts come up.
They are not your thoughts,
They are just thoughts.
Instead of indulging in thought,
Try to detach from them.
Simply observe them.
The name of this Zen parable is non-judgment.
Once upon a time,
There was an old farmer who lived with his son.
He worked on his farm and had a few horses.
He was a calm old man.
One day,
One of his horse ran away.
Upon hearing the news,
His neighbor came to visit.
Such bad luck,
Such bad luck.
The farmer replied,
What is,
Is.
Next morning,
The horse returned,
Bringing with it three other wild horses.
The neighbor came to visit again.
How wonderful,
How wonderful.
The farmer calmly responded,
What is,
Is.
The following day,
The farmer's son tried to ride one of the wild horses and was thrown off.
He broke his leg.
The neighbor came to offer his sympathy.
The farmer responded,
What is,
Is.
The day after,
Military officials came to the village to draft young men into the army.
They saw that the farmer's son had broken his leg and they passed him.
The neighbor came to congratulate the farmer on how well things had turned out for him.
The farmer simply replied,
What is,
Is.
What is,
Is.
What is,
Is.
