Welcome to Zen parables with Ekta.
The essence of Zen lies in the silence behind words.
When thoughts arise,
Notice that they arise in silence,
They play a little while like the noisy winds and then they dissolve back into the silence.
The essence of Zen lies in helping you disengage from the thought and take a leap behind the thought into the silence of awareness.
Move from mind to no mind.
Today's Zen parable is hard work.
A spiritual seeker went to a Zen master.
He told him that,
I am very devoted to studying spirituality and I will do everything that is required,
Earnestly and sincerely.
Please accept me as your student.
So the master said sure.
Then the disciple asked,
How long will it take for me to master it?
The teacher looked at him and said,
10 years.
The disciple was a little shaken and said,
I want to master it faster than that.
I will work very very hard.
I will practice every day,
10 hours a day,
7 days a week.
I will work very very very hard and do everything.
Please tell me then how long will it take?
So the teacher paused for a moment and looked into his eyes and said,
20 years,
20 years.
The principle of hard work may work in the material world,
But the only principle that works in the spiritual realm is effortlessness,
Effortlessness.
If you are effortless,
You might get there in 10 years,
But if you put a lot of effort,
You might take 20.
