Transcript

Let's do a self-exploration on I Am That,

Chapter 10,

Witnessing on the topic,

Why Desires Remain Unfulfilled.

Sit comfortably,

Relax the body,

Close your eyes and remain.

Take your attention to the sensations in the physical body,

Heaviness,

Lightness,

Pain,

Numbness,

Tingling,

Crawling,

Vibrations,

Heat,

Cold,

Anything that you can feel at the gross physical level,

Take your attention to it.

This is what you consider as yourself,

This is what you call as I.

Any desire related to this physical body becomes my personal desire,

Recognize this truth.

Now take your attention to the mind,

Thoughts arise at this level,

Desire is nothing but a thought.

You normally assume that whatever thought arises in the mind is me,

You feel you are the mind,

When sensation arises in the mind it is called a feeling,

Happy feeling,

Unhappy feeling,

You assume that to be yourself,

You say I am happy,

I am unhappy,

You feel that you are the mind,

Recognize this truth.

Take a step beyond the mind,

Stay at a distance and watch the thoughts arise and fall.

Any desire that arises at this level becomes your personal desire,

Remain detached from the mind,

Remain detached from the body,

Stay behind.

This is the level of the witness.

It is the quiet background that does not have any desires,

It is simply the knowingness,

It is simply the witnessing function of the infinite space of nothingness,

The same infinite space of nothingness is here in me,

There in him,

There in her,

It is in everyone,

A common infinite single field,

This space,

This field is empty of things,

It is a nothingness,

It is not that there is a separate nothingness in me and a separate nothingness in you,

A separate nothingness in him or in her,

In fact we are all the same infinite space of nothingness,

How many infinities can there be,

Just one,

We are all one,

When we are all one then how can a personal desire not be limited,

A personal desire even if legitimate is definitely limited because it belongs to the body and mind,

That which is limited will always be small,

That which is limited will always be temporary,

That which is limited will always be unsatisfying,

Unfulfilling,

That which is limited cannot bring contentment,

When you take a step beyond the body-mind level you recognise the oneness with the entire humanity,

You recognise that I am not different from others,

Then the personal desires related to the body-mind level start seeming petty,

Recognise the oneness with all,

Desire the common good,

When you desire the common good the whole world desires with you,

When you make humanity's desire your own and work for it you cannot fail,

Abandon the pettiness of personal desires,

Abandon the false identification with the body-mind,

Recognise that infinite space of nothingness that you are,

Once you recognise that nothingness hold on to your own nature,

When you hold on to your own nature you recognise that you yourself are peace,

You yourself are love,

You yourself are happiness,

What you were seeking for is actually right within,

You will find that which you were looking for,

But remember you cannot get to your nature if you do not abandon what you are not,

And you cannot abandon what you are not if you don't know it,

You cannot abandon what you do not know,

So first things first,

Know yourself,

All else will come with it,

Know yourself first,
