Salaam.

Salaam.

Salaam.

Dependent origination.

There is Vinnyak.

There is Namarubha.

Salayatana.

After salayatana is pasa.

There is Vedana.

There is Tanha.

There is Upadana.

There is Bhava.

There is Jati.

And Jaramaranam.

That's it.

That's the 12th.

Then see after that is the repetition.

Again we come to Avijaya.

Do you see it?

There are just 12 causes of dependent origination.

What is the top sentence?

One exists,

Then exists another.

It is the law of coordination.

It means one causes the other.

Are you understanding?

The second one is the cause for the second.

The second one is the cause for the third one.

Third is the cause for the fourth one.

Is it becoming very clear?

Now tell me.

Ignorance is the cause for?

Impressions.

Impressions in the consciousness.

Clear?

Yeah?

In this book what is impressions?

Formations.

Mental formations.

Ignorance is the cause of mental formations or impressions in our language.

Sankaras.

That leads to consciousness.

How?

Whenever you see another object because of your past impressions you will make form.

You will name this.

Your consciousness comes because of your past samskara.

The past samskara is already somewhere embedded in me.

Yes?

Because of that whatever I see I know this is room.

If I am an alien and I come down to this planet will I be able to name this as room?

Are you understanding?

So I have a sankara memory of this being called a room.

So that vinayana cognises a space called room.

Super clear?

All impressions give rise to that particular consciousness or cognition.

That consciousness is the cause for name and form.

First I see then I know it is room and there is a fall to the room.

Correct?

Vinyana led to nama rupa in my head.

The labelling of nama rupa in my head.

Correct?

Next is salayatana.

Six sense basis.

Matlab kya?

It's written there.

I am.

I and vision are the six sense basis.

Yeah?

The eye consciousness comes up.

Yeah?

That leads to the eye organ functioning.

How shouldn't the eye organ functioning bring up the eye consciousness?

What runs the other?

The body runs the consciousness or the consciousness runs the body?

Consciousness.

That is why first what should come up?

Consciousness.

Very clear?

Very very clear?

So eye consciousness had come up first and then the eye sees and that which it sees is the scenery,

The vision.

Clear maa?

Similarly,

Ear and hearing,

Nose and smell,

You got the basis,

Base,

Sense base,

Salayatana.

Pasra is contact.

Now contact happens between the eye consciousness and the base.

There is contact,

Pasra and that leads to sensation in you.

Here see vedana and sanyo are together into one direct sensation.

That causes tanha,

Craving.

I see something I like and now I want it or I see something I dislike now I don't want it.

Yeah?

So your craving is for both craving and aversion.

Yes?

And that leads to upadana.

What is upadana?

Attachment.

Clingy clingy clingy thing has happened in you because you encouraged that first craving or the first abortion.

Clingy clingy the chuangami gooey attachment that you have.

If padme hua,

Dehle,

I encourage that craving.

What?

Abush.

Che upadana?

Next.

Because I have collected all these attachments,

This has become my flow.

Bhava.

You remember bhavanga?

Now you remember bhav,

The flow.

This is the becoming.

Yeah?

The word I think used in this book is becoming.

So that's my flow and because of all this samskaras in my flow what happens?

There is birth.

Yeah?

And because of birth there is aging and death.

Because of aging and death?

Again,

There is no there is a vidya.

A vidya.

Awesome.

And the same thing,

The cycle goes on.

Yeah?

So now we'll read this n number of times going ahead.

He keeps repeating this,

Keeps repeating this.

This is the basis of the crux of your understanding.

If you get dependent origination,

Very easily you will be able to let go of everything.

It's simple,

No?

Mathematics.

If I don't understand the karmic law.

If I don't understand this law of cause and effect.

I will still do unwholesome things and do wrong things and I think they are right.

Remember wholesome and unwholesome?

Yeah?

But the day I understand this I'll give up my unwholesome acts and do only the wholesome ones.

I'll keep sticking to my verbs and that's how I will progress.

Super clear?

Mahanidana Sutta,

The great discourse on origination.

Thus have I heard.

Again it is either Ananda speaking or Sariputta speaking.

Once the Lord was staying among the Kurus.

There is a market down there called Kamasa Dhamma.

And the venerable Ananda came to the Lord,

Saluted him,

Sat down to one side and said,

It is wonderful Lord.

It is marvellous.

How profound this defendant origination is and how profound it appears.

And yet it appears to me as clear as clear.

Means very clear.

Do not say that Ananda.

Do not say that.

This dependent origination is profound and appears profound.

It is through not understanding,

Not penetrating this doctrine that this generation has become like a tangled ball of string.

Covered as with a blight,

Tangled like coarse grass,

Unable to fast beyond states of woe,

The ill destiny,

Ruin and the round of birth and death.

Understood Ananda?

I said,

Oh it's so wonderful.

It's so clear.

It's so clear.

Subudha saying,

No,

No,

No,

It's not clear.

It is profound.

It is super complicated.

It's not very easy to understand.

If it were easy to understand,

People would not be stuck in the cycle of birth and death and misery and dukkha and etc.

If Ananda,

You are asked,

Has aging and death a condition for its existence?

You should answer,

Yes.

If asked,

What conditions,

Aging and death?

You should answer,

Aging and death is conditioned by birth.

You understand?

Conditioned.

First we did,

What is the cause of what?

I went from top to bottom.

Now he is going from bottom to top.

What conditions birth?

Becoming conditions birth.

So,

Dot dot is,

If Ananda,

You are asked,

What conditions birth?

You should answer,

Becoming conditions birth.

You get it?

What conditions becoming?

You should answer,

Clinging conditions becoming.

Do you see that on the chart?

Clinging conditions becoming.

Are you getting it?

Yeah,

You cling,

Cling,

Cling,

Cling,

Cling onto something and that becomes your nature.

Yeah.

For two years since you started doing Buddha,

You started clinging to wholesome states.

I will not lie,

I will not lie,

I will not lie.

Initially it was an effort and now it's very much your nature.

You just don't indulge in lies.

On the other hand,

If somebody lies a lot,

He's clinging onto lies and that has become his becoming,

That has become his nature.

He keeps lying at the top of a hat.

Are you understanding?

Clinging conditions becoming.

Yeah,

Craving conditions clinging.

He's craving for something,

He feels that by lying I will get some benefit.

That's why that person is lying.

Correct?

Similarly,

The person who's not lying understands who my inner environment will be very pure if I don't lie.

I'm just using one of the vowels as an example.

Both is craving.

Both is craving at this stage.

Craving conditions clinging.

Feeling conditions clinging.

You did not lie,

You felt very pure inside and you realised,

Ah this works.

This feeling is so good,

Is so pure.

I'm going to continue doing this.

So you continued not lying.

On the other hand,

The person who's lying,

He saw that some benefit came by lying and he started feeling good with that,

Whatever benefit it was.

Some money,

Some greedy venture.

So what does he do?

He continues lying.

So in this case it's sensation.

Vedana.

Vedana.

Feeling here is Vedana.

Correct?

Contact conditions feeling.

There was some contact.

For you it was Buddha's words and your ear and the sound.

Maybe for the person who's lying,

It was his greed.

So maybe it was money,

Maybe it was whatever in that condition.

Contact conditions feeling.

Then mind and body conditions contact.

This we got,

It was one of the sense bases that led to the contact.

Consciousness conditions mind and body.

The vinyana,

Whatever it was,

The eye.

For you it was ear consciousness because you heard me talking about it to you.

So your consciousness.

If asked,

Has consciousness a condition for its existence?

You should answer,

Yes.

If asked,

What conditions consciousness?

You should answer,

Mind and body conditions consciousness.

Thus ananda,

Mind and body conditions consciousness and consciousness conditions mind and body.

Mind and body conditions contact.

Contact conditions feeling.

Feeling conditions craving.

Craving conditions clinging.

Clinging conditions becoming.

Becoming conditions birth.

Birth conditions aging and death,

Sorrow,

Lamentation,

Pain,

Grief and distress.

Thus this whole mass of suffering comes into existence.

Get it?

Now in your own meditation you can start observing this.

At least start observing small little things.

You start craving for a jhana.

Then you start clinging,

Clinging,

Clinging,

Clinging.

It's happening?

Yeah?

Where did the craving come from?

That first feeling,

The first feeling that,

Ah this is it,

I got it.

You liked it that you reached there.

Are you getting this?

And the previous sutta we read,

How should you be unattracted and unrepentant,

Disassociated.

Can you be like that?

Because you are going to get very clingy,

Clingy with the jhanas also otherwise.

You understand what I'm saying?

No?

So don't develop a new raga here.

It's very easy to have ragas of these jhanas and they only prevent you from going to nirodha.

Take care.

And you will also start seeing in your own meditation,

See I have craving for this negative trait.

And that craving led to this clinging.

How did that craving come up?

Ah the first nice feeling that I had by doing that.

So you start seeing some,

At least some part of it.

Yeah?

The easy thing is the feeling,

Seven vedana,

The sensation.

Yeah?

Then you start seeing how you started thirsting for it.

Tannha.

You remember I said thirst.

Yes?

And then comes the clingy,

Clingy.

Upadana.

Clinging to it and then it becomes your nature.

Bhabha.

At least this part you can start seeing in all your thoughts that arise.

You can't see birth and death yet.

But you will.

So start observing.

Only those thoughts come up in your meditation and disturb you.

Those that are your clingy,

Clingy.

Those that are a part of this.

Why do you keep thinking about your family,

Your job,

Your whatever whatever?

Some people are attached to tissues.

Tissues over.

See how bad the whole whole meditation goes because there are no tissues in the room.

You are thinking about tissues.

You are thinking about somebody didn't vacuum their carpet that side.

That side now all dirt stuck onto my socks.

The whole meditation you're thinking that there is dirt on my socks.

Nonsense.

Only those thoughts disturb you.

That which you have developed an attachment for.

So start seeing in every silly thought also there is really this happening.

Even if you can see a small part.

Yeah.

Just from the sensation from the feeling to craving to clinging if this much also you can see you will understand what's happening.

Slowly the others will start opening up.

Yeah.

Let's read it.

Because this whole mass of suffering has come into existence.

What is this whole mass of suffering?

The boat.

This is a mass of suffering.

How can you not see it?

Why is not the heart of suffering?

It is all the cup.

It is all the cup.

Wake up.

Wake up and see it is all the cup.

I have said birth conditions aging and death and this is the way that should be understood.

If Ananda.

There were no birth at all anywhere of anybody or anything of Devas to the Devas state of Gandhabas to the Gandhabas state of Yakshas to the Yakhas to the Yakhas state of ghosts to the ghost state,

Of humans to the human state,

Of quadrupeds to the quadrupeds state,

Of birds to the birds state,

Of reptiles to the reptiles state.

If there were absolutely no birth at all of all these beings then with the absence of all birth,

The cessation of birth could aging and death appear?

No Lord.

Therefore Ananda,

Just this is the root,

The cause,

The origin,

The condition for aging and death namely birth.

What is it?

Obviously if you are not born there will be no old age and there will be no death.

Very simple this is.

This is the simplest.

After this everything is done.

But if you understand this then you understand the rest.

I have said becoming conditions birth.

There is a lot of work to do that.

And look at number four,

The last word in the first line from there I am reading.

And this is the way that should be understood.

If Ananda,

Now jump back down,

There were absolutely no becoming in the world of sense desires,

Of form or the formless world,

Of devas,

Of ganabhas,

Of yakhas,

Of ghosts,

Of humans,

Of quadrupeds,

Of birds,

Of reptiles.

Jump back down,

Good birth appear.

You understand becoming conditions birth?

Because you had sanskaras for example,

A cat gets killed by a dog.

What is the impression of the dog,

The fear of the dog?

Yes,

So he has,

The cat has so much impression of the dog he moves up into evolution to the birth of a dog.

Like that you keep moving in this evolution because of your impressions.

Becoming matna bhava flow because of the sankaras.

Whatever your flow is because of your sankaras.

You have solid sankaras of some fear,

Some attachment.

You have major attachment with your husband or wife.

What happens?

You get reborn in the same family or both of you come together again because of the major attachment.

Are you seeing this?

So becoming conditions birth.

Becoming matna bhava.

That flow of sankaras conditions birth.

So the attachment that becomes and becoming and then that will determine our flow again.

Attachment becomes the flow.

Becoming is equal to flow.

What you understand is flow.

He calls bhava or becoming.

Clear?

Simple words may if you understand habitual tendency.

Habit banjaat hai.

So smoke smoke smoke karein hai.

The habit banjaat hai.

Smoking ka.

Becoming is you becoming a smoker because of cleaning or craving to for the smoke.

Got it?

Yeah,

So the other translation of becoming is like a habit.

That which is your habit is becoming.

That is your flow.

Okay,

So he stopped at could birth appear?

He says no lord.

Therefore just this is the condition of birth.

Namely becoming.

Clinging conditions becoming.

And this is the way that should be understood.

If ananda there were absolutely no clinging.

Sensuous clinging.

Clinging to views to right and ritual to personality belief of devas of gandhabas of yakas of ghosts of humans of quadrupeds of birds of reptiles.

Yeah,

Then could becoming appear.

This you understand because I cling cling cling cling cling to something that becomes my habit.

Yes,

That becomes my sankhara which goes into my flow.

That is becoming the flow.

And craving conditions clinging.

That is very simple.

I crave for something and now I keep wanting that same thing again and again and again.

This is very easy.

So craving conditions becoming.

And this is the way that should be understood.

If ananda there were absolutely no craving for sight,

Sounds,

Smells,

Taste,

Tangibles,

Mind,

Objects of devas,

Gandhabas,

Yakas,

Ghosts,

Humans,

Quadrupeds,

Birds,

Reptiles,

Etc.

Could clinging appear?

Again,

It's the same.

No lord.

Feeling conditions craving.

This is also very clear.

I have a pleasant feeling.

Then I crave for it.

If I have an unpleasant feeling,

I don't want it.

I'm a verse.

Simple.

Yeah.

And this is the way that should be understood.

If there were absolutely no feeling,

Feeling born of eye contact,

Ear contact,

Nose contact,

Tongue contact,

Body contact,

Mind contact in the absence of all feeling with the cessation of feeling,

Could craving appear?

No lord.

Therefore,

Ananda,

This is the root,

The cause,

The origin,

The condition for craving.

Namely,

Craving.

And so ananda.

Feeling conditions craving.

Craving conditions seeking.

Seeking conditions acquisition.

Acquisition conditions decision making.

Decision making conditions lustful desire.

Lustful desire conditions attachment.

Attachment conditions appropriation.

Appropriation conditions adorace.

Adorace conditions guarding of possessions.

And because of guarding of possessions,

There arise the taking up of stick and sword quarrels disputes arguments strife abuse lying and other evil unskilly states.

So clear.

It doesn't leave any room for you and for your ego to escape.

Yeah,

We'll go through that one by one.

Feeling conditions craving because I have a pleasant feeling.

I want I want I want I want I want starts craving conditions seeking.

Now I want it not to find a way to get it.

This is seeking.

Yeah,

By hook or by crook,

I need a way to get it.

Seeking.

Seeking conditions acquisition.

What do you run after you will get?

Yeah.

What happens?

Acquisition conditions decision making.

I got this because I ran after it.

All doership arises.

Decision making.

Now I have to keep making such decisions.

Decision making conditions lustful desire.

Lust increases in you.

I want more now.

I got 1 million dollars.

Now I want to make that 2 million.

I got 2 million.

I want to make that 5 million.

I got 5 million.

Continue the same.

Lustful desire.

Lustful desire conditions attachment and then your big back balance is your big attachment.

Few numbers go down.

One little change in the stock market.

What happens to you?

You will end up in ICU.

What does it change your stock market and see what happens?

Attachment.

Right?

It's not just money.

It's not money.

It's for your child,

For your kids.

One complaint from school.

The first time you get a complaint about your child,

Your whole dream that my child is Einstein has broken.

See what happens to you.

Attachment.

Attachment.

This is all attachment.

We are laughing but this is a very true thing.

It's true for knowledge.

Yes.

Yes.

See with knowledge what has happened?

Ego becomes so big.

See I know,

I know,

I know,

I know and then really do you know?

I apply.

No change in life.

Nothing.

All fake.

All fake.

No purity.

You see when you do politics and you spoil them in a nice spiritual sangha.

Yes.

There also you can spread your purity.

Again check.

It's only your attachment.

Attachment happens with everything.

Everything.

Yeah.

Become free.

When Jahanaji is telling you at Nirodha he told you disassociated,

Unattractive,

Unrepentant.

What is?

Attachment conditions appropriation.

Appropriation means you see marketing ads.

They are an appropriation of your attachment.

You have an attachment to iPhone within six months and your iPhone is released.

What happens?

You are manipulated to think that oh I have to agree.

I have to agree and everywhere you see it flashing you go out on a billboard you see.

So you are manipulated into buying something you really did not want to buy.

This is the dictionary meaning of appropriation.

It's appropriate.

Yeah.

Making you do something that is not really what you wanted to do in the first place.

Your attachment made you do it.

Don't blame iPhone company.

They are doing their business.

How do they do their business?

By appropriating your attachment.

What is?

IWatch.

IWatch huh?

He has an iWatch.

She has an iWatch.

You see I watch everywhere.

You don't need to carry such a bulky phone in your hand.

Oh you're still old school man.

You have an easy iWatch.

Appropriation.

You didn't really need an iWatch.

You have attachment to gadgets and that's appropriated.

You are appropriated.

Your attachment is appropriated.

You don't have to manipulate.

You know creating greed in you.

Next is greed.

Appropriation conditions.

Agorist.

Agorist means greed.

You see it on TV.

You see it on billboard.

You see somebody else wearing it.

Now what happens?

I want it.

I want it.

You think I make less money or what?

I'll also wear and show you.

I'll get one for my wife.

One for my wife and one for me.

Agorist conditions.

Guarding of positions.

It was so difficult for you.

First time to give me your iPhone.

Where is she keeping it?

Where is that bag going?

I don't need a phone.

I have a phone.

I have a phone.

Oh my god my expensive phone.

I hope she keeps it well for the two and a half days.

So much attachment you had.

Now this time you just just threw it into the bag.

Right because you know she keeps it.

I'm going to get it back on the last day.

Phones gone on the last day.

Phones gone on the last day.

Yeah all phones gone.

Somebody built that bag.

Sorry.

Or maybe the attachment has less now.

Let's see.

Last day.

Perfect memory.

So I'm going to get it back.

I'm going to get it back.

Perfect memory.

See how you guard your possessions.

There's lots of this.

You know you start guarding even your children as if they are your possessions.

You started noticing.

It started with things and now it's becoming.

People.

Yeah not people.

Your own family members.

That is the highest value.

These are nothing gadgets are nothing.

You can do this in your relationships.

Yeah and then husband comes home.

What does Vandana say?

Kaun se ladki ke saad kundiya hai.

She's only 30 minutes late from office.

Which girl was with you?

Was with you today.

Tell me.

Who are you talking to for 30 minutes?

You're 30 minutes late.

Husband also or wife also becomes a possession.

Are you seeing this?

Start noticing how this affects us.

Yeah.

He's really gone to the details of things.

See how you're guarding.

You're guarding because you're insecure.

Yeah.

That free thing is not there.

You are only making bondage in your own mind.

When dispassion happens,

No this drops off.

It's guarding of possessions,

Guarding of relationships.

It's guarding,

Guarding tendency enough,

It drops off.

Why?

Because insecurity has dropped off.

Now do you understand what is dispassion?

It's not simple disinterest.

It's a very high level maturity.

Then it doesn't matter.

It doesn't matter.

It's a different level of freedom.

You feel so free.

Yeah.

That's when your psychic bandwidth really increases because you're not worrying about nonsense things that you're so insecure about.

You understand psychic bandwidth?

How free your mind is less number of thoughts even in the day.

Not just when you're doing the jhanas.

Even out in the water.

Because of guarding the possessions,

There arise the taking up of stick and sword,

Quarrels,

Disputes,

Arguments,

Strife,

Abuse,

Lying and other evil unskilled stinks.

Super clear how this is happening?

It's happening in our lives?

Yeah.

Become more and more aware.

Is it worth it?

It's anyway dukkha.

Your husband is dukkha.

Your wife is dukkha.

Your child is dukkha.

Birth itself is dukkha.

Teenage is very big dukkha.

Teenages are very big dukkha too.

Yeah.

Adult life is dukkha.

Aging is dukkha.

And death is even more dukkha.

Where is peace?

Where?

What happens?

Why you talking about kidar hai?

Movie mein hai.

Only in the movies.

It's really true.

It's only in the movies.

Wake up.

Yeah.

Make happen.

We coined it as happiness.

Yeah.

Buddha said there is nothing like happiness only.

Doesn't exist.

Why?

Now we,

At least some of us,

Maybe most of us in some or the other course,

But some of us today and yesterday have experienced that absolute still tranquil mind at least for a few seconds,

Few minutes.

And you didn't want to let that go at any cost.

And even a pleasant sensation of pithi was a disturbance in it.

Even a pleasant sensation of sukkha was a disturbance in that serene tranquil mind.

Do you understand?

So not only pain is dukkha,

Pleasure is also dukkha.

Because now you've tasted something higher.

This higher tranquility is ananda.

Do you get it?

That's why they say,

No,

When you taste ananda,

Not only dukkha drops away,

When sukkha drops away.

You don't care for bhoot sukkha and dukkha because you've tasted ananda.

Now,

You know this ananda,

This tranquility,

This serenity of mind can be disturbed even by that little feeling of sukkha.

The people who went from jhana 2 to 3 today didn't like the idea of going from 1 to 2,

2 to 3 again.

No,

Ananda,

Tranquility,

Why spoil it?

Why go back?

You've seen that?

You know,

You love that equanimity,

That quietness,

That unconcern.

Not even sukkha is told to go there.

And the people who go and hire,

You never want to go back.

You've seen that?

That is what he's talking about.

That even this pleasure that creates a craving in you is nothing but dukkha.

Because that also leads to fights and swans and arguments and it's all nicely,

Dramatically written but.

.

.

Go ahead.

I have said,

All these evil unskilled states arise because of the guarding of possessions.

For if there were absolutely no guarding of possessions,

Would there be the taking up of sticks or swords,

Quarrels,

Disputes,

Arguments,

Strife,

Abuse,

Lying and other unskilled states?

No,

Lord.

Therefore,

Ananda,

The guarding of possessions is the root cause.

The root,

The cause,

The origin,

The condition for all these evil unskilled states.

Understood?

These are all evil states.

They get into arguments,

Fights.

You don't pick up swans and guns and all those things but at least you sit and fight.

Yeah.

Even if it's a small thing like you doubt your husband or wife,

Who are you with?

You think they like it?

They feel,

You know she or he doesn't trust me.

No faith.

It hurts really hard and it hurts more than a sword.

Are you saying this simple thing that most of us keep doing to our spouses?

Just a simple thing.

Who are you talking to on that phone?

That's it.

You just have to say that to hurt him or her.

It's as good as a dagger for him or her.

Now they've got used to your nature because you do it so often.

But really we very worry.

It's an evil unskilled state.

And if I am saying that,

Why am I saying that?

Because I am insecure and why am I insecure?

Because I am attached.

Are you seeing this?

And why am I attached?

Because of my claim.

Because of my feeling.

Are you saying it how it keeps going back?

Yeah.

Wake up.

Wake up.

I'm doing this.

I'm doing this.

I'm doing this.

It's got nothing to do with that external person.

When you start seeing every little thing happening in your life like this,

The law of causation,

You will be able to see in every little argument of yours,

Every little fight,

Every little thing you dislike.

And where is its root cause?

There or there?

It will be here.

It will all have started inside.

When you start seeing this clearly,

You will stop doing these evil things of hurting people through your words.

A silence,

A natural silence just dawns in life.

Because anything I'm going to blame or see is actually coming from you.

It's got nothing to do with that person.

Okay,

Give husband,

Wife example,

But blaming somebody else or criticizing somebody else.

You got it.

Clear?

Get rid of these evil unskilled states just by checking this law again and again.

You take this as a homework in your relationships wherever criticism comes about,

Hatred comes up,

Ill will comes up,

Fight comes up.

First check.

Is it here?

Is it in me?

My own attachment,

My own craving,

My own clinging,

My own feeling came from my only consciousness,

My only mind body.

Who's responsible?

My only sankhara,

My only ignorance.

Why am I fighting with the poor soul in front of me?

What's your fault?

What's your contribution in my bhava?

I created my bhava.

Spare the poor guy your death.

Clear?

I have said avarice conditions the guarding of possessions.

For if there were absolutely no avarice,

Would there be taking up of swords and sticks and quarrels and disputes,

Arguments,

Strife,

Abuse,

Lying and other evil unskilled states?

No,

Lord.

Therefore,

Ananda.

Avarice is the root,

The cause,

The origin,

The condition for all these evil unskilled states.

Yeah,

So it is my own greed that has led to this evil unskilled state.

Super clear,

No?

We are going the number nine.

We are now again just going step by step again through the whole number nine.

Only because I have avarice do I land up guarding the possessions.

If I didn't have greed,

I would not be guarding my possessions like that.

So when you come to a state of dispassion,

Greed drops away.

Even wanting to possess something drops away.

This is where that natural seva starts.

You are just of the giving nature.

Somebody doesn't have something taken.

You use it.

Somebody needs help.

You're just there to help.

There is no insecurity only.

So there is nothing that you want from it.

You're just there to give.

Because all this has died down.

The guarding of possessions,

The insecurity,

The greed for something.

It has all died down.

Get it?

Twelve to seventeen.

Now just follow the same thing.

Appropriation conditions avarice.

Attachment conditions appropriation.

Lustful desire conditions attachment.

Decision making conditions lustful desire.

Acquisition conditions decision making and seeking conditions acquisition.

Because of greed there is appropriation.

Because of appropriation there is attachment.

Because of attachment there is lustful desire.

Because of lustful desire you make and appropriate that kind of lustful decision.

And because of that lustful decision there is acquisition.

And because of seeking there is acquisition.

Got it?

I have said craving conditions seeking.

If there were no craving for sensual pleasures,

Existence,

Annihilation,

Would there be any seeking?

Craving conditions seeking.

Because I want something then I seek for it.

Means I got to have this by hook or by crook.

What is that new phone?

Samsung come with the stylus.

Twelve hundred bucks.

But what happens to you?

I should not be spending twelve hundred bucks.

I bought one phone just a year ago.

What happens to you when everybody starts having the same stylus and showing you see I have a stylus.

I don't have to punch anymore with my fingers.

I have a stylus.

What starts happening to you?

When little craving leads to?

I got to have it.

Now I need to get that twelve hundred bucks from somewhere.

Then you will get that by hook or by crook.

Are you seeing this?

Yeah?

A little bit of craving can lead to seeking.

Never ever say something like that to a kid.

See new phone.

What happens to him?

That first craving comes up.

Ahh,

Even I want a stylus mommy.

Then what happens?

That seeking starts and he keeps telling you birthday present you will give me now?

That phone?

I will be a good boy.

I will do this.

I will do yard work.

You couldn't afford it on his birthday.

You will give me Christmas present.

No mama?

Santa Claus will get it for me.

No?

You see seeking.

The same thing happens in our minds.

No?

It's not just kids.

It happens to us.

Are you getting this?

So wake up.

Wake up.

I'm doing this to myself.

I'm doing this to myself.

You probably are not behind phones anymore or to small little things anymore.

But now you are behind higher things.

Now jhanas has become a new seeking.

By hook or by crook I have to get it.

If I didn't get it by hook then crook.

I read it.

No.

I understand the definition.

I have to just go to nikta.

You don't know.

I'm jhana 4th.

Okay.

That's going to say okay.

That's not going to say no.

Are you seeing this?

Who are we fooling?

Very vigilant.

It's going to happen in every sphere.

In every little place.

Even on the spiritual path.

That's how you start thinking that by attending a knowledge session.

By understanding it intellectually you feel you have applied it.

You think you're a big jhana.

You start advising other people.

Yeah.

You got very good advice because you're good at speaking.

But really when the true test really happens in your own life.

What happens?

Your whole house of glass comes shattering down.

You have not applied it in your own life.

Right?

Become very clear.

I'm just running running running behind more things.

Drop the craving and just be.

Buddha is teaching you only one thing.

Just be.

Just be.

In every jhana what do I tell you?

Just be.

Relax.

Smile.

Be there.

What happens to you?

I want this.

I want this.

I want this.

Now she spoke about tranquility yesterday.

That ananda.

Now I want ananda.

Are you seeing this?

This happens at a very subtle level.

You're not even aware that you developed a little seeking for ananda.

And you will not know till you come to one on one and I'll tell you relax.

Stop running.

Yeah.

So lots of seeking starts in us.

We are not even aware.

The more you become aware.

Immediately you will catch it.

So who more for you to think about?

Have you started catching it?

Day three.

No today.

Yeah.

Like tomorrow you should be an expert in catching.

Catching yourself.

Oh there is this seeking.

I want this now.

I'm craving for this.

The moment you catch yourself.

Stop.

It's all going to be spiritual seeking for the next few days.

Keep seeing.

Oh I'm seeking this now.

And relax.

Just be.

Just be.

Buddha is just teaching you be.

Samja the more you're going to run behind the void the more it's going to run away from you.

The more you take a step back.

Relax.

Chill.

It's there.

How many of you understood this?

In experience.

Just chill.

Take a step back.

Relax.

I have set craving conditions seeking.

If there were no craving for sensual pleasures,

Existence,

Annihilation,

Would there be seeking?

Yeah.

So there is craving for sensual pleasures you understand very well.

Existence you want to live.

And by annihilation if I want to live.

You want to die also.

When there is more sukha in life you crave,

Crave,

Crave.

You like it.

You want it.

You're seeking.

It's a subtle desire to exist and experience just a little more.

When there is dukha in life what happens?

No paani badhu you become.

I don't want to live.

Have you seen that?

I hate my life.

I hate this suffering.

I don't want to live.

Buddha says correct.

There is only misery in life.

Now suddenly Buddha became the master.

I mean that Buddha was sitting in the drawing room just looking pretty next to the TV.

Do you see this?

So you really want the opposites.

He's saying not this,

Not this.

Just be.

Are you getting it?

The people who learnt about Jeevesh now,

Jeevesh now.

You have to drop Jeevesh now.

New seeking.

I have to drop Jeevesh now.

I have to become dispassionate.

How to become dispassionate?

Dispassion is a side product.

It's a happening.

It happens on its own on the path.

You cannot have a goal for dispassion.

Are you understanding what I'm saying?

No?

So no thirst for existence and no thirst for not existing or annihilation.

Just being with what is.

If all this was not there,

Would there be any seeking?

No Lord.

Therefore,

Ananda.

Thriving is the root,

The cause,

The origin,

The condition for all seeking.

Thus these two things become united in one feeling.

Which two things?

Thriving and emotion.

Next,

I have said contact conditions feeling.

If there were no contact,

Would there be any feeling?

No Lord.

Therefore,

Contact is the root,

The cause,

The origin,

The condition for feeling.

Yeah.

How does,

Where does earnestness fall?

How can one be earnest yet not seek for not being finished for?

You just be honest about being a sakshi.

Being with what is.

However painful it is.

Especially in dukkha,

It's very difficult to be with what is.

It's very easy to be with sukha like that.

So easy.

Everything is hunky dory.

Very easy to be with what is.

What happens in dukkha.

That is your true test.

Be with what is.

It is what it is.

Can you maintain your centeredness?

This is the earnestness.

How earnestly am I applying my knowledge that I have learnt in this state of dukkha to be with what is.

Not craving for enlightenment.

Yeah.

Beginners ke liye hai.

Have I even once told you here?

Only in knowledge sessions I know that.

For beginners ki start somewhere you start.

You show them a carrot.

Enlightenment is better than the samsara.

They start walking the spiritual path.

When they start walking the spiritual path,

Come to a little maturity.

What do we tell them?

Drop the screaming for enlightenment even because this is going to be your obstacle.

How many times it was just to remind us that.

Again and again and again.

Drop the screaming for enlightenment.

Clear?

Yeah.

So what should you do?

What is your earnestness targeted towards?

Your sincerity should be targeted towards?

Being with what is.

Being equanimous.

Being non-reactive.

Simple.

What simple.

Be with what is.

I'm telling you from day one.

What is peace?

Then there is no struggle in life.

There is no feverishness.

Every jhana also is the same.

If you just learn to be with what is very easily you will go into piththi.

Very easily you will go into sukha because that is your nature.

Joy,

Smiling,

Being happy is your nature.

It's not something that you are manipulating.

That is your nature.

The sukha.

Yeah.

That pleasant feeling that you were getting came very naturally and that tranquility that followed came so naturally.

Then that tranquility also settled down and you just felt you were expanding on your own.

I didn't even tell you.

You said that oh I started expanding okay.

Fantastic.

Now go on expanding.

Yeah.

When you started expanding you started experiencing oh there's nothing there's nothing here.

Just like space.

You only started dissolving in that space.

It's very natural when you're just with what is you automatically flow.

If you're not automatically flowing what is the problem?

The craving.

Craving.

Either it's a craving or aversion but craving.

There's some fervor for something.

This want of something that becomes a block.

Sari Putta didn't have that fervor.

That's why in two weeks he got enlightened.

It is that easy.

It is that fast.

So you start recognizing boss and craving.

Take that step back.

Stop.

Stop.

Before this craving develops into seeking and then acquisition and avarice and appropriation and all the way to fights and arguments.

Stop.

Stop.

Stop.

Here only.

At least you have recognized that feeling in you.

Stop.

Stop.

Stop.

Right there.

Be with what is be with what is be with what is.

Many people said Satipa started happening automatically back because some way you recognize some sensation without recognizing the sensation.

You just you can't start scanning sensations,

Right?

So something in you recognize the sensation and that's why you started scanning and that it says let go that itself help you wipe off and you forgot again about that scan.

It's naturally happening.

It's a very natural process really.

But that it created.

It happens very naturally to you.

Yeah.

So now when you start meditating,

Check,

Keep a check on yourself.

Am I seeking?

Number twenty.

Mind and body conditions contact.

This is very simple,

Right?

By whatever properties,

Features,

Signs or indications,

The mind factor is conceived of.

What there in the absence of such properties,

Features,

Signs or indications pertaining to the mind factor.

We manifest any grasping at the idea of the body factor.

Why not?

I is body.

I consciousness is my salatana is the body and the nahupa and the vinyana is the mind.

And because of that there is contact.

Remember we did today before yesterday,

I consciousness,

The I and the form together lead to eye contact.

Or in the absence of any such properties pertaining to the body factor,

Would there be any grasping at sensory reaction on the part of the mind factor?

Because no eye.

Can the eye consciousness recognize anything,

Label anything,

Anything,

Any of the process would happen?

Got it?

By whatever properties,

The mind factor and the body factor are designated in their absence.

Is there manifested any grasping at the idea or at sensory reaction?

No.

If both are gone,

There is any grasping happening.

There cannot be.

By whatever properties,

Features,

Signs or indications,

The mind factor is conceived of.

In the absence of these,

Is there any contact to be found?

No Lord.

But mind is gone.

There cannot be.

So for phasra to happen,

Both mind and body are required.

Phasra is contact.

Then ananda,

Just this mainly mind and body is the root,

The cause,

The origin,

The condition for all contact.

Twenty one.

I have said consciousness,

Conditions,

Mind and body.

Now vinyana conditions,

Nama rupa in the chapter.

I have said consciousness,

Conditions,

Mind and body.

If consciousness were not to come into the mother's womb,

Would mind and body develop there?

No Lord.

Basically he's talking about conception.

In conception what happens?

Even if the egg and the sperm meet without consciousness,

Will there be a life?

Are you getting it?

So it doesn't matter how many times the sperm meets an egg.

There cannot be life without the availability of a consciousness to enter.

If consciousness were not to come into the mother's womb,

Would mind and body develop there?

No Lord.

Or if consciousness having entered the mother's womb,

Were to be deflected?

There's a miscarriage that happens,

Means the consciousness comes and then leaves.

So deflected.

Would mind and body come to birth in this life?

No Lord.

And if the consciousness of such a tender young being,

Boy or girl,

Were thus cut off,

Would mind and body grow,

Develop and mature?

No Lord.

Therefore,

Ananda,

Just this,

Namely consciousness is the root,

The cause,

The origin,

The condition of mind and body.

I have said mind and body conditions consciousness.

If consciousness did not find a resting place in mind and body,

Would there subsequently be an arising and coming to be birth,

Ageing,

Death and suffering?

That consciousness does not find a mind and body.

Can birth happen?

Birth doesn't happen.

Can ageing happen?

Ageing doesn't happen.

Can death happen?

No Lord.

Therefore,

Ananda,

Just this,

Namely mind and body is the root,

The cause,

The origin,

The condition of consciousness.

Thus far,

Then Ananda,

We can trace birth and decay,

Death and falling into other states and being reborn.

Thus far extends the way of designation of concepts.

Thus far is the sphere of understanding.

Thus far the round goes as far as can be discerned in this life.

Here round means the wheel.

The Dharma chakra keeps going round.

Namely to mind and body together with consciousness.

Basically we are stuck in that wheel of birth and death and birth and death and birth and death.

Interesting,

No?

Clear rescue.

But what did Buddha say?

Profound.

Profound and appears.

We have to be very aware that,

Oh,

Grieving in me makes clinging happen.

Clinging creates thirst,

Thirst creates becoming,

Becoming.

Because of that becoming,

I have come into body.

Yes,

And I'm celebrating that birthday every year.

Yeah,

Reminding myself.

Good job.

Good failure.

One more failure.

You'll come back again.

And one more failure.

Contemplate on this.

All the thoughts that are disturbing me in my meditation have got to do with my Vedana,

Tanha,

Upadana and Baba.

Very clear?

There is a feeling that arises that leads to a cleaning,

That leads to a clinging and that clinging only becomes Baba and that Baba only keeps coming up again and again and again and again and again and again in my meditation,

Disturbing.

Start observing on your own.

When you start observing on your own,

This law will become very,

Very clear to you.

If this exists,

That exists.

If this ceases,

That ceases too.

That's the magic.

The moment you understand this is happening.

Yeah,

Oh it's just,

Just this feeling,

This pleasant feeling that I'm craving for.

Be with what is.

Let that sensation come up and not react to it.

You've already done it practicing for two years in Satipa Tanha.

That's why you're mature enough to understand and go into Jhanas.

Are you seeing this?

You guys,

You would have not understood the Jhanas.

Practice of Satipa Tanha that has given you this super jump up to understand Jhanas.

I could not teach you this in the beginning.

Clear?

Dependent Origination is clear.
