Listen to Ektaji guide us through a self-exploration meditation, “I-the-Now am the Totality" from Chapter 2 of Atmananda Krishna Menon’s book Atma Darshan. Taking a step beyond the body-mind, the “I” collapses, and one simply is. What remains is simple being- the NOW. The NOW arises and dissolves like a hologram made of labels: subject and object, time and space, cause and effect. On closer inquiry, past, present, and future are seen as mere ideas, for whatever happens happens only in the NOW. Questions of the waking world are illogical, as the waking world itself is an illusion, along with the ideas of creator and doer. I am before the waking, dream, and deep sleep states- the NOW in which they arise and dissolve- while I remain. All ideas are illusory waves arising and dissolving in me, the NOW. The part can never explain the total. The final recognition: I-the-NOW am the Totality.

Let's again sit comfortably,

Let's close our eyes,

Relax the body,

Withdraw from the body,

Step beyond the body,

Step beyond the mind and be a witness to the person,

Step beyond witnessing even.

Let the I collapse and simply be,

Simply be.

What remains after the collapse of the I is simply the now.

Dive deep into the now.

Observe the now.

The now arises and disappears.

Every now is like a 3D hologram.

The hologram consists only of labels,

Of names,

Forms,

Subject,

Object,

Time,

Space,

Cause,

Effect,

Etc.

The hologram appears and disappears.

Another 3D hologram moment arises and dissolves.

None of these hologram ideas are permanent.

The subject is a temporary idea.

The object is also a temporary idea.

Subject-object relationship is also a temporary idea.

Time-space in which the subject-object arise and disappear is also a temporary idea.

All ideas arise and dissolve.

All ideas are temporary.

Observe the now carefully.

What is the now made up of?

It is simply nothing.

Simply nothing.

Ideas arise from nothingness.

They play a farce of being something and they again disappear into nothing.

The memory seems to bring ideas from the past to the present.

Memory brings something to nothing.

But is there even a past?

Is there even a present?

Or are past and present both simply ideas?

Both happen in the now.

Whatever happens,

Happens in the now only.

Therefore,

The idea of a past,

Present and future are simply false ideas.

Time does not apply in the reality of the now because the nothingness of the now sucks away the temporary somethingness of the idea of past or present or any other idea.

Just like the black hole sucks away everything,

The nothingness of the now sucks away the ideas of somethingness.

The idea of a cause and effect implies the existence of a past and a future.

But time does not apply to the now.

Therefore,

Cause and effect do not apply in the reality of the now.

The idea of cause and effect is like the dream tiger that was never born.

That which is never born never existed and never died is simply an illusion.

The dream tiger was never born.

It never even existed and it never died.

It was simply an illusion.

Similarly,

All ideas about the cause of the world,

Origin of the world,

Time,

Past,

Present,

Future are all illusory ideas.

Questions regarding the waking world,

The cause of the waking world,

The time,

The origin,

The effect are all illogical as the waking world itself is an illusion.

The idea of the creator of the world is also an illusion as it is illogical to ask who created that which is not there.

The idea of an all-doer of the world is an illusion as it is illogical to ask who is the all-doer of that doing which is not.

Without considering the whole truth of waking,

Dreaming,

Deep sleep and Durya,

It is illogical to question about the waking state part.

The complete truth is that I am prior to the world of labels.

I am prior to the so-called body of the person.

I am prior to the mind of the person.

In fact,

I am the waking now in which they appear at the beginning of the waking and disappear at the end of the waking.

I am prior to the waking state itself.

Therefore,

I am not the notion of being the waking person.

I am the dream now in which the dream person and the dream world appear and disappear.

I am prior to the dream state.

Therefore,

I am not the dream person and not even the notion of being the dream person.

I am the deep sleep now which is devoid of any notions,

Which is devoid of the idea of personhood.

I am prior to the deep sleep state.

I the now remain while the waking,

Dreaming,

Deep sleep ideas appear and disappear.

I the now am all.

I the now am the totality.

All ideas are simply illusory waves arising and dissolving in me,

The now.

They are simply parts.

I am the total.

The part can never explain the total.

I the now am the totality.

I the now am the totality.
