The Jewish holiday of Shemini Atzeret is unique for Pazer Keshev—Pur, Zeman, Regel, Korban, Shir— and this meditation invites you to meet the holiness of your uniqueness. Begin with Pur, lot: reflect on the portion that has fallen to you—the blend of gifts and circumstances that shape your life. Move to Zeman, time: sense the season you are in now, its particular rhythm, challenge, and opportunity. Then, Regel, celebration: imagine how you share joy—your own way of dancing, gathering, or creating connection. Korban, sacrifice or service: offer what is most authentic in you to something greater; let your work, love, or attention be your gift. Finally Shir, song: listen for the melody only your life can sing. Rest in this awareness—your lot, this time, your joy, your offering, your song—woven into the music of all creation.

Breathing in,

You can close your eyes when you're ready.

Getting heavy,

Settling down,

Getting quiet,

Enjoying this moment to just be still.

Not expecting anything more.

Your brain isn't going to stop.

Your body can't freeze.

There is no such thing as extreme,

Real silence.

There's always small,

Distracting noises.

Those are fun.

Let yourself be bored and a little fidgety.

Let your brain just drift.

Maybe you need to yawn,

Or stretch,

Or squirm,

Or adjust.

This meditation is about what makes you,

You.

Unique,

Distinct,

Particular,

Defined.

We'll think about five different things in turn.

As you're breathing,

You get distracted during this meditation.

That's normal.

You're just going to get distracted and come back.

You can listen to my voice.

You can feel your seat.

You can notice your breathing,

Or your digestion,

Even your heart rate.

The first thing we're going to think about is the things we were born with.

The tendencies,

Proclivities,

Differences,

Physical apparatus that we have that make us unique.

Maybe one finger is unusually long.

Maybe your eyes have a distinct color.

Maybe your thought process is a particular way,

Or you might be dyslexic.

The gifts and particulars of self that make you,

You.

What you came out of the womb with,

More or less.

Stature,

Width,

Skin tone.

The basics.

What makes you unique.

And you're just breathing,

Just kind of absorbing that possibility that there is what is unique about you.

Distinct and set apart.

In and out breathing,

Staying slow.

You also notice what's distinct in this time of your life.

This moment,

This day,

This week,

This season.

Where are you now that you haven't been before and may not be again?

What is unique about you in this moment as you travel through time,

At this season in your life?

What makes you distinct right now?

Just breathing,

Just staying slow.

When strange thoughts come up,

Just let them drift on by.

You're the sky,

Everything else is just weather.

You don't have to hold on to it,

You don't have to address it or invest in any particular feeling or thought.

Just neurons,

They can't hurt you.

What's unique about the way you celebrate and praise?

What's unique about the way you share joy?

What's unique about your smile and your laugh?

What you give away,

What you put out?

How do you like to party that's different than other people?

How do you show joy?

Breathing,

Letting that idea drift across you,

Reflect in and out,

Reverberate,

Just noticing what it all means to you.

And uniquely,

What is your work in this world?

What are you called to do?

What are the gifts you bring,

The sacrifices you make to create the world,

To offer it up,

What it needs from you?

What is it that only you can give?

Something about your heart that is unique and uniquely capable.

Breathing.

And last,

What makes you sing?

What makes you vibrate with energy?

Where does it all come from?

What is your song that you radiate into the world?

What is the music of your spirit and soul?

Feel it there,

Ringing like a harp.

Just breathing into all of these uniquenesses,

Your inherent gifts,

The time of your life,

The ways you celebrate and work,

And the song that you have to sing.

And all of these things are yours alone.

Take it all in,

With deep breath.
