Zehirut (shining inner awareness) begins at the center of the self and radiates outward in widening circles. In this meditation, we kindle the light within: noticing our thoughts, emotions, and intentions with clarity and compassion. From there, our awareness expands to our immediate environment—how we move, speak, and impact the space around us. Next, we extend our mindful presence to loved ones and acquaintances, noticing the quality of our relationships. The circle grows to encompass our town and region, sensing our place in the fabric of community. Finally, we reach outward to the world, holding all beings in luminous, attentive care. This is zehirut: living awake, radiant, and responsible in every sphere of life.

Let's begin.

Entering.

Falling into your body.

Your seat,

Couch,

Bed.

Letting your eyes rest,

Perhaps close.

Descending into quiet and stillness.

Vibrating with energy and listening.

Noticing your emotional state.

Are you coming in tense and anxious?

Eager and expectant?

Sorrowful?

Tired or energized?

Feeling anxious and anxious?

You don't judge it,

You don't have to put words to it,

Just notice where your spirit is moving.

What's pulling it?

Pushing it or drawing it?

How's your body?

Stiff,

Soft,

Relaxed,

Tense?

Any situation is okay.

Perhaps with your breath or your attention or small movements,

You can make yourself a little more comfortable.

A little slower and heavier.

Wouldn't that be nice?

How do you want to feel right now?

Go towards that.

Breathe in deeply,

Filling your chest,

Reaching all the way to your waist.

Out slowly.

In deeply,

You might push out with the ancient word of breath,

Sela.

Getting heavy,

Letting gravity take over.

Letting your muscles take a break.

And as you get quiet,

What other sounds do you hear better?

What volumes increase?

What do you notice inside and out?

Anything different,

Changing or unique this morning?

Or unique during this meditation?

Giving yourself the gift of this time to meditate.

Just to be and not to do.

To reflect and not ruminate.

Coming back when you get distracted,

The energy of your breath,

Because distraction is automatic.

It's required for being alive and human.

You can keep coming back to your body,

Your breath,

My voice,

Whatever you need to cue yourself into this moment and then this moment right now.

Depending on the weather and the time of year and time of day,

You may feel sunshine or see it outside or just call it to mind.

Draw the image of a warm and reverent sunshine,

An illuminating light within you.

Shining presence of your spirit deep within.

Cultivate that light.

Let it grow and fill you,

Warm you,

Illuminate yourself.

Make use of the light in righteousness.

Let it expand.

All the way to the surface of your skin,

All the way to the extremities of your body,

This container.

Notice how that feels.

Experiencing the light within.

Majestic and serene.

And then slowly,

Perhaps tentatively,

Delicately just let the light expand outward from you.

Not very far just yet,

Just a little.

This inner radiance can shine outward and illuminate your world under your watchful eye.

Using the brilliant glory that is within you to shine light on the space where you sit,

Where you are.

Coming out of your heart and spirit and pouring out of your body.

Breathing deeply and letting it out,

Shine forth.

As it expands,

Maybe it reaches someone you love,

Someone you know,

Someone who you have a hard time seeing.

Let the light dapple them,

Shine upon them.

Perhaps you can see them and understand them better through it,

Through your own light.

Shine it out.

Letting your light gently expand,

First helping you see yourself and then your space and then the people around you.

And perhaps your immediate world,

Paths where you walk your dog,

Town,

City,

State,

Just expanding the light to cast a watchful eye on the world around you.

Cast a watchful eye on your neighbors,

Fellow citizens,

Giving them the light of watchful understanding from your inner self.

Maybe you wonder what they're going through as you shine the light on someone like your mayor or your police chief,

Your senator,

A teacher,

Your pastor,

The local park,

A school building.

Whatever needs your attention,

Your inner shining,

Radiant watchfulness,

Just share it.

Spreading your glory outward,

Extending yourself of yourself.

Breathe in deeply if you've become distracted,

Slowing down,

Steadying your thoughts,

Just relaxing,

Doing less,

Communicating less.

You don't need to do anything or focus on anything,

Just sharing your light.

Maybe you can extend it to the broader world,

All those people and trees and rivers and things that need your watchful,

Shining attention.

Extend yourself to those far away,

Giving them your light even now,

Even from the place where you are doing this meditation.

Extending your inner light outward and outward so you can see further and even deeper.

Breathing in and exhaling that light forward,

Letting it glow across the universe,

Your special light,

Your watchful eye.

Blessings.

Thank you.
