This is No. 38 of 112 Guided Audio Meditations from the Vigyan Bhairav Tantra by Shiva. This meditation guides awareness into the center of sound and silence. By alternately attending to inner vibrations and external sounds, attention naturally gathers at the listening center. As sound arises and dissolves, awareness remains unmoving — resting in the silent source from which all sound appears. The practice reveals a still, soundless center beyond both noise and quiet. It concludes with loving-kindness, grounding deep listening in compassion and peace. Welcome to this guided meditation that will help you explore the depths of silence and sound within yourself.

Find a comfortable position,

Either sitting or lying down,

And gently close your eyes.

We will begin by becoming aware of the silence around you.

As you sit or lie still,

Notice the absence of external sounds.

Embrace this silence,

Allowing it to envelop you.

Feel how the silence is like a canvas upon which all sounds are painted.

Notice the absence of external sounds.

Embrace this silence,

Allowing it to envelop you.

Feel how the silence is like a canvas upon which all sounds are painted.

Now,

Gently place your fingertips over your ears,

Lightly blocking any external sounds.

By doing this,

You're creating a temporary,

Soundproof space.

As you cover your ears,

Become aware of the inner sounds,

The subtle vibrations within you.

In this moment,

You are both the observer and the observed.

Feel the sensation of your fingers against your ears,

Connecting you to the inner world of sound.

Notice the subtle sounds,

The rhythms of your breath,

The beating of your heart,

And perhaps other internal vibrations.

In this moment,

You are both the observer and the observed.

As you continue to focus on these inner sounds,

Recognize that you are the center of this auditory experience.

Just as you were the center of external sounds,

Now you are the center of these internal vibrations.

You are the observer,

The witness to the symphony of your own existence.

In this moment,

You are both the observer and the observed.

Release your ears and return to a state of silence.

Feel the contrast between the inner and outer worlds of sound.

The external silence surrounds you once more,

And the internal vibrations have retreated into the background.

Now,

Let's transition from silence to sound.

As you listen,

I will produce a gentle sound,

Like the ringing of a soft bell.

As you hear this sound,

Feel it drawing your attention back into the world of external sounds.

Embrace this sound as a bridge connecting you to the outer world.

Observe how this sound moves towards you from all directions,

Like ripples in a pond.

You are the center of this auditory universe,

Receiving and witnessing every sound with equanimity.

Allow the sound to penetrate your awareness fully.

Let it wash over you and merge with the silence that surrounds it.

In this unity of sound and silence,

You find a profound stillness.

Allow the sound to penetrate your awareness fully.

Let it wash over you and merge with the silence that surrounds it.

In this unity of sound and silence,

You find a profound stillness.

In this unity of sound and silence,

You find a profound stillness.

Now,

Let go of any attachment to the sound.

Just as a wave retreats from the shore,

Let the sound dissolve into the silence.

Return to a state of pure,

Unadulterated silence.

As you rest in this silence,

Become aware of the center within you.

It is soundless,

A realm of perfect tranquility.

You are the observer of this center,

The still point within the symphony of existence.

In this silence,

You are not defined by external sounds or internal vibrations.

You are free like the unbounded sky.

Now take a deep breath,

Slowly returning to your present awareness.

Feel the weight of your body and the support beneath you,

Bringing the sense of stillness and unity with you into the outer world.

As you go about your day,

Remember that you are the center of your own auditory universe,

Both in silence and in sound.

This awareness can help you remain grounded and peaceful amidst the cacophony of life.

Before we conclude,

Let's extend loving-kindness to ourselves and to all beings,

Silently repeating these phrases.

May I be happy.

May I be healthy.

May I live with ease.

May all beings be happy.

May all beings be healthy.

May all beings live with ease.

May the world be filled with love and kindness.

May I be happy.

May I be healthy.

May I live with ease.

May all beings be happy.

May all beings be healthy.

May all beings live with ease.

May the world be filled with love and kindness.

Thank yourself for taking this time to explore the depths of silence and sound within yourself,

And for sharing loving-kindness with all beings.
