Radical Self Love
In a follow up to my meditation on How to Love Your Self, this meditation will bring into your own thoughts about yourself a clear and simple way to leave the old negative, critical voice behind, end the self-torture that came along with that voice, and begin to feel within your bones a form of self-love that is radical in it's nature: That you are perfect just the way you are. You belong here. You matter. No less than the ocean, the sky, all of Nature, you are perfect as you are. Enjoy.

So,
Thank you for joining me today.
This meditation is about radical self-love.
Probably an idea that you've never quite considered,
At least not at the level that we're going to talk about it here today.
Part of what we're going to be exploring is the sense of your place in your life,
Your place in the universe,
And how you tell your story,
Your life story,
With the kinds of words,
The kinds of inflections in your voice even,
The way that you claim your space,
How much care and compassion and kindness you hold yourself in,
What's the spirit of your own self-love.
All of this comes out through our life stories,
The way that we talk about our lives.
And it gets determined in many ways directed by our life stories.
So part of this meditation will be exploring telling a life story that's based in radical self-love,
That's based in knowing and feeling deeply within yourself with a richness and a thickness that you belong here,
That you matter,
That loving yourself is part of accepting yourself 100%.
And in the middle of the meditation,
I'm going to tell a story about an event that opened up my own heart for myself,
My own self-love for myself.
And I'll tell that story because,
Not to show myself as some sort of icon about self-love,
Because for sure this has been a challenge for me throughout my whole life as well,
But I tell you the story because it's important to know that each of us have a context,
That we have lived our lives in in relation to self-love.
And to overcome the detriments of some of our own storylines and life events and move ourselves into a place of radical self-love can take an acknowledgement of those detriments,
Those life experiences that have been hurtful or that we have generated toward other people and toward ourselves that have been hurtful.
So let's move into the meditation and we'll explore radical self-love.
So find your most comfortable position,
Either sitting up or lying down.
And when you get yourself settled in nicely,
Comfortably,
Move your head around,
You can open your jaw up,
Let it close naturally.
Let's take two or three easy breaths with a nice easy inhale and an easy exhale.
An easy inhale and an easy exhale.
One more breath like that.
And exhale.
Now find your way with that calmness into your center,
That place within you that if you can really feel it has always been there.
That sense within that you are okay.
If you have a hard time feeling that,
That's alright.
Just think about that place within you where you know that you're okay.
Just think about that that place exists within you.
Then we're going to explore this idea of radical self-love.
So for just a moment think about your level of self-love now.
How much do you hold yourself in a place of kindness and compassion?
How often are those negative critical voices speaking to you,
Putting you down,
Calling you names,
Telling you that you're silly or foolish?
How much has that negative critical voice tortured you over the years and maybe continues to hurt you with its nasty comments about you?
Just think about that for just a moment and then we're going to step away from this negative critical voice and we're going to step away from any history that you've had as you relax in your center,
Any history that you've had where you have been extremely negative towards yourself,
Where you may have been hurtful towards yourself in your thinking,
Your actions,
Any self-sabotaging patterns that you might have had in the past,
Any times where you didn't follow through on your own commitments to yourself.
We all struggle with these things.
It's totally okay,
But it's important just to acknowledge that these patterns that haven't been so helpful,
These practices that have been hurtful to us,
That they have existed in our lives and we want to let go of them.
So I want you to visualize in front of you a large blob and the blob can be whatever color,
Whatever shape you want to use your imagination to create.
And within that blob,
Place into it this negativity that we're talking about,
These hurtful comments,
This negative critical voice,
Even the sense about yourself that you're not lovable or likable.
Anything that has to do with saying to yourself,
You're not okay,
You're not lovable,
Anything that's unkind toward you at all,
Put those thoughts,
Those patterns,
Those thinking emotional habits into that blob and just watch that negativity swirl around inside that blob for just a moment.
Feel what it's done to you over your entire life.
And then here's a radical step I'd like you to take.
See the blob for what it is,
All that negativity.
And now in your imagination,
Turn your back on the blob and begin to walk away.
Staying in your center,
Staying calm,
Serene,
Relaxed.
As you turn your back on the blob and walk away,
You walk instead toward the ocean.
You're crossing the beach and you come to the shoreline where your feet touch the ocean.
I want you to look at the ocean,
To see the waves.
Hear them,
Hear the sound of seagulls and the waves are rolling in nice and gently.
And look at the sky above the ocean,
At the horizon where the ocean meets the sky,
Any clouds that are there.
And answer this question,
Is this a perfect ocean?
Is that a perfect sky?
And if the ocean and the sky that you're looking at are perfect,
And they are part of the universe,
Just like you are,
Just like the trees,
The sand under your feet,
The grass,
The animals,
The wind,
The stars and the sun,
All perfect just as they are,
Then how could it possibly be that you as a vital part of this universe as well could be anything other than perfect,
Just as you are,
Just like the ocean and the sky?
I want you to hold that sense of perfection in your heart,
In your body for just a moment.
And begin to bring up into your heart a wonderful blue light of love.
And let that blue light of love in your heart,
Right in the middle of your chest,
Grow in intensity,
In brightness,
In blueness,
So that that wonderful blue light expands throughout your chest,
Down into your abdomen,
All the way down your legs to your feet,
Up from your chest,
Up into your shoulders,
Your neck and throat,
The blue light moving up into your face,
Your ears,
Your forehead,
And all the way to the top of your head,
So your entire body is filled with this wonderful,
Vibrant,
Loving blue light.
And hold that light.
Feel that light for just a moment.
Feel it strongly within yourself.
And then reach out with your hand,
And there's a dial right in front of you.
That dial says,
Love,
At the top,
Up by where the 12 would be on a clock face.
And to the right,
There's a big set of words that says,
Radical Self-Love.
And I want you to reach out to that dial and turn that dial strongly with conviction so that the arrow points directly at Radical Self-Love.
And you can feel the blue,
The blue from your chest,
The blue all the way throughout your body become more beautiful,
More wonderful,
More loving.
So that you're just like the ocean,
Just like the sky,
Those beautiful blue colors.
You're filled with the perfection of who you are as a person.
That you couldn't be anyone else.
With your life experiences and your life story,
That this is exactly who you are right now.
It's exactly where you need to be.
Where all your decisions,
All of your success,
All of what you might see as failures,
Everything has brought you to this point right here,
Right now.
So feel that love,
That wonderful blue light of love pulsing throughout your entire body.
I want to tell you this quick story.
And I had a near-death experience a few years ago.
And I nearly died.
I was in the hospital for a week and lost 20 pounds.
And when I got out of the hospital,
I had a mystical experience in front of the cathedral in Santa Fe,
New Mexico.
I was on my crutches and I suddenly saw in front of me all of the bad things that I'd done in my life.
The people that I'd been hurtful to,
The ways that I'd been negative or critical and nasty ways,
The pain that I'd brought others.
And I felt all of that.
I could feel how much hurt I'd caused.
And then I felt all the good things that I'd done,
How I'd been helpful to literally thousands of clients,
All the workshops and retreats that I'd led and how those are helpful to people,
The love that I had for my children,
For the people that I'd been in relationship with,
For my family.
And I felt all that good that I'd brought into my life and into the lives of others.
And I held both of those,
All the negative,
All the hurtfulness and all the positive,
All the love and the good that I had brought into the world.
I held them both in my hands,
Held them both in my heart and in my mind.
And it dawned on me really strongly that I just am who I am.
I'm okay.
I just am who I am.
So I want you to look at and feel that blue in your chest,
That wonderful blue loving light,
To feel it moving through your body,
To hold yourself in radical self-love in a way that says to you,
You just are who you are.
You've done the best you can.
With every situation that came up,
You tried to be the best that you could be.
And that's a good thing.
And from here on out,
See if you can find a similar mantra that fits for you.
It might come to your mind right now,
A mantra that encapsulates the sense of you being perfect just the way you are.
Just like the ocean is perfect.
It's a perfect ocean.
The sky is perfect.
It's a perfect sky.
And all of nature around all of us exists in its own perfection because that's just the way it is.
Hold that love for yourself,
That radical self-love for just one more moment.
And then as you come out of this meditation,
Bring that radical self-love with you.
And any time any negativity tries to show up from here on,
Just let it go.
Take a breath,
Relax it,
And let it go.
Because it just isn't true anymore.
You simply are who you are.
We can come out of the meditation now.
So begin to come back into the room that you're sitting in,
Bringing this radical self-love with you.
Come back into your body.
Come back into this time.
And when you're ready,
Open your eyes.
