This recording from one of my Live Events takes us in meditation to a place of exploring what it's like to mindfully love another person. We'll naturally move into an expanded awareness of the Stillness Within, and then shift our focus toward what loving another person can be like for us when we love from this space of Stillness. As we get better at opening our Awareness to Stillness in this way, what used to be distractions can help us to deepen and expand our awareness, rather than pull us away from Stillness. So, there was a bird outside the room I was in, and you'd hear this bird chirping while I was talking(a bird interrupting me!). I like this meditation, so use the bird's chirps to help focus more clearly on the Stillness Within. Photo by Ryan Franco.

So,

We're moving into this state,

This place,

If you want to think about it as a place.

It's not an actual place within our bodies or anything like that,

But sometimes it's fun to use words like that.

But as we begin,

You can,

Of course,

Start to feel your awareness shifting and you begin to feel the shift,

I'm sure,

From our normal surface-of-our-lives kind of awareness to begin to pick up on the quiet,

On the stillness,

The stillness that's within us,

That's part of us,

That is all around us,

Within our own sphere of our self.

So,

As you begin to feel your awareness becoming aware of the stillness,

You can feel your body relaxing,

Slowing down,

Becoming calm and quiet,

And letting go,

Letting go so much that perhaps your eyes can close now.

You can feel that relaxation as it expands all the way throughout your body from the top of your head,

All the way down your body to the soles of your feet.

And in this process of becoming aware of the stillness,

You can take any sounds that you hear,

Any bodily sensations,

An itch or a moment of soreness maybe that surfaces,

And you can actually make use of these and allow them to help you to become even more aware and more accepting of your own state of mind that we're calling stillness.

So,

Your awareness of the stillness increases here,

And your awareness of everyday life,

Of the minutia that we pay attention to,

Decreases and fades away into the background.

So within your own self,

Within your own awareness,

More and more prevalent is your awareness of the stillness,

Until there's actually nothing else but the stillness.

So let yourself be aware of the stillness.

Let yourself be aware of the relaxation throughout your body,

And then let go of the awareness of your body itself.

And just allow the stillness to fill up your awareness.

So all there is,

Is the stillness.

And in the stillness,

Give yourself permission for total acceptance of whatever is happening.

Acceptance of any sounds,

Acceptance of anything in your body that you might be feeling,

And just come back over and over to feeling fully aware of the stillness.

And then for just a moment,

Let's consider that the love for life,

The joy for life,

That at times we feel intensely,

And at times we feel minutely,

That this love and joy for life comes from the stillness,

Because the stillness is connected to all that there is.

And that connection that we feel is love,

Is the joy for life.

And one way to think about this with our topic today,

One approach that we might take,

Is that when we love another person,

What we're experiencing is our connection with the field of the universe through this person,

Through being connected with this person.

And that our connection with them,

Our love,

Our affection,

Even our adoration,

Are expressions of our connection with the field of the universe.

So just consider,

As we move into the silent portion of this meditation,

Consider that your stillness is actually a connection with the universe,

What you're feeling when you're still is the field of the universe,

And that that connection is love,

And that that's what love is when we're loving another person,

That we actually experience the field of the universe through loving another person.

So this is one way to consider what love is.

So I'll be quiet now for a few minutes,

And let's just sit with that.

If you find your mind wandering away into thoughts or plans or what's going to happen next in your life,

That's totally fine.

Just come back,

Come back to the stillness when you notice it,

And consider this thought,

This approach about loving another person.

So we'll be quiet now for a few minutes.

If your mind wanders away,

Just bring your attention and your awareness back to the stillness.

So we'll begin to come out of our meditation now,

And bring any thoughts that you have with you,

Any intuitions or moments of awareness that came up for you.

Just bring them with you and remember them.

So let's take a nice easy breath,

And as we exhale,

Come back into the room that you're in,

Come back into your body,

Come back into this time,

And when you're ready,

Open your eyes.
