Hello and welcome to today's meditation.
My name is Diane.
Today we will explore the qualities of acceptance.
There is a beautiful Sufi teaching that explains that pain is not personal,
But rather an intricate part of being alive.
It goes as such,
Overcome any bitterness that may have come because you were not up to the magnitude of the pain that was entrusted in you.
Like the mother of the world who carries the pain of the world in her heart,
Each one of us is part of her heart and therefore endowed with a certain measure of cosmic pain.
Find a comfortable place to sit or lie down.
Acceptance is a pact that we make with the universe and ourselves,
Acknowledging that we were given all the tools to accept all experiences equally.
Since a young age,
We learned to strategize.
We learned to avoid the unpleasant and to repeat the pleasant.
How can we find peace if we are always strategizing?
Take a deep breath in and exhale.
Close your eyes.
Peace can be found in moments of true acceptance,
Not grasping,
Not aversion.
Accept that you have all that is needed to prevail and to thrive.
Take a deep breath in and exhale.
Relax your body.
Open your heart.
Bring your guard down.
You are safe.
Today I will offer you some affirmations.
You can repeat them silently or simply feel them deep in your heart.
Take a deep breath in and exhale.
First,
Affirmation.
I accept that I cannot change the past and don't know what the future holds.
The present is all mine.
I accept that I cannot change the past and don't know what the future holds.
I accept that things take time.
I am patient.
I am patient.
I am patient.
I accept that I will make mistakes.
I can forgive myself or ask others for forgiveness.
I accept that I will not be able to forgive myself or ask others for forgiveness.
I accept that I won't always know what to do.
I can always listen and learn.
I can always be patient.
I can always be patient.
I accept that good things don't always last.
I can be fully present to remember them.
I accept that I will be able to forgive myself or ask others for forgiveness.
I accept my aging body.
I am lucky I made it this far.
I accept that I am mortal.
I am breathing.
I am alive now.
I am alive.
I am alive.
I am alive.
I am alive.
Take a deep breath in and exhale.
And again,
Deep breath in and exhale.
Meditation,
Like yoga,
Is not about self-improvement,
But self-acceptance.
We are constantly trying to make life the way we want it to be,
And we rarely accept it the way it is.
There is beauty everywhere if we take the time to see it,
As long as we are willing to accept it.
Our heart has the capacity to accept.
Wiggle your toes and fingers.
Take a deep breath in and exhale.
Open your eyes.
See the world and see yourself,
Just as it is.
Isn't it beautiful?
Namaste.
