This meditation offers a moment of calm during the Christmas season. It is also for those who find it a difficult time of year, for whatever reason. We start with a short body scan before practicing compassion towards ourselves and whatever we may be feeling during this time. We finish with some affirmations that you are welcome to listen to, whisper or speak out loud. I wish you a happy and healthy New Year.

Hello,

And welcome to this corner of calm in what can sometimes be quite an overwhelming time.

Everyone has their own story and their own emotions surrounding Christmas and this time of year.

This is a place for you to step back from all the noise and settle into the hush that you have within.

The place of the observer.

Come to rest in a comfortable position,

Whatever that means for you.

Take in a deep breath and hold it at the top so that your lungs are full.

Exhale when you're ready and hold for a moment on the breath out.

Once more,

Breathing into the lungs and holding at the top.

And then out and hold.

And then let your breath return to its natural rhythm.

Now bring your attention to the warmth at the top of your head.

And relax into that warm feeling.

The warmth in your cheeks,

Even if they feel cold on the outside.

See if you can focus on the warmth coming from the inside.

Melt into that warmth.

The warmth in your neck,

The front of your neck and the back of your neck.

The warmth in your elbows and right down into your fingertips.

A bit like warm honey is slowly dripping down the inside of your arms.

The warmth of your chest coming from deep,

Deep within.

Relaxing into that feeling.

Your belly,

Warm and alive.

Your pelvic floor and your hips.

The warmth at the tops of your legs,

Down to your calves.

And both feet,

Soothed by this warm feeling within.

Your entire body,

Warm and relaxed.

If Christmas is a difficult time of year for you,

Know that despite what may seem,

You're not the only one feeling resistant to it.

You are allowed to feel whatever you are feeling.

You can't force yourself to feel differently.

But see if you can approach your feelings with compassion and act towards yourself how you would act to a friend or a child who is feeling resistant to something.

Perhaps offering them a hug so they feel seen,

Loved and supported.

See love and support yourself.

There are some things in life that we can't control,

Like certain dates in the calendar or what other people choose to do.

But we can control how we respond to these things.

Remove yourself from the hype whenever you wish.

Coming back to the warmth within you,

The calmness underneath the layers of emotion.

Your quiet corner.

Here are some affirmations for you to listen to and repeat if you want to.

What I give and what I receive doesn't define my worth.

I am enough simply because I am here.

I am present with my body.

I am present with my heart.

And I am present in this room.

My mind is calm,

Clear and open.

I make time each day to do something that brings me joy.

I listen to my inner voice and express my desires clearly to others with compassion.

I feel deeply loved and supported by my ancestors and loved ones who have passed on.

I have all the peace in the universe within me because I am the universe.

And when you feel ready,

You can re-emerge from this quiet corner,

Bringing your warmth with you.
