Hello,
Hello,
My friends.
I am very happy to see all of you here who has already joined.
Thank you so much and welcome to our live event today.
This live will be dedicated to mindfulness and creativity.
We will fully discover the topic and I really hope to have a discussion with you guys.
So let's start by tuning into this present moment and just notice how are you feeling right now.
A few words about me.
My name is Diana.
I am a MindBodyConnection coach and a meditation teacher.
This is the live event called Daily Mindfulness with Diana Meyers.
It is a series of live events where we explore mindfulness and all of the aspects of life actually,
Their interconnectedness,
The MindBodyConnection as well,
And how we can essentially improve our quality of our lives thanks to meditation,
Mindfulness,
MindBodyConnection,
And not only.
I would also like to mention that these slides are recorded and will be uploaded as talks here on Insight Timer a bit later.
So if you would like to release into some parts of the live event or to catch up with what you have missed,
Please feel free to follow my profile to stay tuned to these uploads and not to miss the future live events where we will be meeting each other.
Also,
Each live event has a guided meditation at the end of our meetings.
These meditations will be also uploaded to Insight Timer separately so you can practice any time you want.
You guys are very welcome to ask any related questions to the topic,
To share your opinions,
Ideas,
Of course,
Your experiences.
I am very open to hearing back from you and to supporting you here.
It is a safe space to be yourself and to just express whatever it is for you here and now.
I am currently in Brazil,
In Sao Paulo,
And it is 6 p.
M.
So it is a great way for me to close up the day and to connect with,
To be honest,
My favorite community here on Insight Timer.
I'm a digital nomad,
So I'm changing locations pretty often.
That's why I specify that every time I'm here live.
I would like to start by just recapping that it is the series of live events and in the previous episodes,
We have explored mindfulness itself.
There was an episode dedicated to mindfulness for sleep,
Creating supportive morning and evening routines,
Mindful movement,
Mindful communication.
And the last live event was just a long episode dedicated to the guided meditation on mindfulness of breath,
Sound.
So if you guys would like to meditate specifically on mindfulness and different aspects of it,
You can already find this guided meditation in my profile.
As some of you might know,
I have just returned from the International Digital Nomad Conference that was held in Rio de Janeiro the previous week.
I had an honor to guide a mind-body connection meditation for digital nomads there.
And it was a super exciting opportunity for me.
And I loved meeting some of you guys as well and the digital nomads from all over the world.
So this meditation that I was guided there will be uploaded here on Insight Timer in a few days.
So you guys are also welcome to listen to it,
To practice together.
And as always,
Please let me know your experience with it in the comments.
So today we will be focusing on exploring the connection between mindfulness and creativity.
And to be honest,
When I was preparing for this live event,
Preparing my script and plan of it,
I got even more excited about hosting it than I could think because I consider myself certainly a creative person,
Even though it has not been a smooth journey for me.
But what I have explored about myself throughout the years in my personal coaching and in guiding my clients through their creative processes.
That's just such a beautiful journey and unique one in each case.
So I'm very happy to share it with you guys and hopefully to discuss it.
So if you consider yourself creative or if you would like to enhance creativity in your life and to explore that part of yourself,
Stay with us.
For today's agenda,
We will be talking about the mind-body connection and its importance to the creative process.
We will be also discussing how to cultivate mindfulness on a daily basis to support your creative processes.
Later on,
There will be a short meditation practice for us to explore creativity within us.
And we will summarize it with a simple creative exercise,
Journaling.
Just five minutes for you to have a glimpse of how it might work for you and how the process is,
Especially in my coaching,
When we are understanding how physical and mental states are intertwined and how this connection profoundly affects our ability to create.
So that is what is in our agenda today.
And let me know guys how you perceive or understand the connection to self or the mind-body connection and its relation to creativity.
Whatever your answer might be,
However you understand the question,
It's all perfect.
And of course,
Please share your experience with the creativity itself.
Perhaps I know that there are a lot of musicians here on Inside Timer and quite a few painters.
If you would like to share your experience with us,
How the process is usually for you will be very exciting to hear that.
And of course,
I'm sure that whenever we are sharing our personal experiences or thoughts,
Opinions,
Many of us can relate to that.
So we are never alone in whatever we are experiencing,
Positive or not so much,
Comfortable or uncomfortable.
That is a place also to support each other and to find the true connection.
I would like to start with my favorite aspect of any topic that I'm discussing here with you guys,
Mind-body connection and creativity.
Well,
I would like to start with something that many of us can relate to.
It is stress and anxiety.
They are influencing our states and especially the creative flow like nothing else.
They are notorious creativity killers,
Unfortunately,
Because we are experiencing stress on a daily basis.
We are living in a society.
We cannot escape the stress fully,
But the good thing is that we can learn how to regulate it,
How to manage it and so on.
Let's imagine or remember,
Better to say,
When we are feeling overwhelmed,
Our body is usually tense up,
Our mind starts to race,
Thinking all of the possible thoughts and our focus goes straight and narrow.
This is sort of a fight or flight response when we are altered to solve an urgent problem,
When we are accumulating all of our abilities and energy and strength to dedicate it to finding a certain solution.
Well,
Of course it is great for the emergency situations,
But most of our life,
It's not an emergency itself and it causes a lot of anxiety.
So basically this all shuts down some parts of our brain that are responsible for imagination,
For intuition and simply open-ended exploration,
Which any creative process is.
For example,
You may think,
Have you ever tried to write something or to paint or to compose while feeling intense and intensely anxious?
How was it for you?
How were you feeling at that moment?
What were you thinking?
Please share it with us,
Guys.
It doesn't have to be any big creative process,
Something that probably you just wanted to explore or a little thing that you wanted to bring to life.
How did you feel in that moment?
Gee,
Like it was forced.
Yeah,
Absolutely.
That's a good word.
Totally.
I can relate to that.
Sometimes when I,
Well,
Let's say my mind and I want to create a meditation or a mind-body experience,
A session,
But I do not feel that I'm in this state of flow or I feel that my mind is buried with thousands of unnecessary thoughts around feeling anxiety in my body,
This is where I feel stuck.
Yeah.
So when I,
And actually forcing myself doesn't help at all,
Right?
It feels forced.
Gee,
I totally agree.
And even when I'm trying to create in this state,
The words do not come into sentences or the structure of the event of the meditation is completely wrong.
It doesn't feel natural and it wouldn't be effective at the end,
Neither for me nor for the listeners or my clients.
So this kind of stress creates mental and physical gridlock.
So it prevents us from accessing our natural state of the flow.
And yes,
I would like to highlight that the state of flow is natural to all human beings,
To perhaps all of the species,
Right?
And with the mind-body connection or with mindfulness practices,
We can tap into that state of flow anytime we want,
No matter how stressed we are,
The levels of anxiety,
We can work with it.
That's the good news.
We can also create supportive routines and routines are crucial for our brain.
Something that is very familiar,
Something that doesn't already require a lot of energy to spend on,
Just practicing it provides a really solid foundation for more ease,
For more openness,
Physical and mental.
So routines is something that can be also very helpful and for you to discover.
Whether you guys have any tips,
How you access this natural state of flow,
Please share with us as well.
Speaking about the routines,
It is one of my favorite topics and that is what I truly enjoy working with.
It's again,
A creative process to create a very personalized,
Tailored,
Routine,
Which I did for myself,
Of course,
And doing it constantly.
And also I'm offering workshop to support you guys,
To guide you,
To help you to create your personal routine,
Whether morning,
Evening,
Depending on your lifestyle,
Your necessities,
Your needs.
If it is something that you would like to work on,
That you're missing at this moment,
That you would like to explore,
Please also feel free to reach out.
You have an option to send me a direct message here on Insight Tiger.
When we are talking about mind-body connection and mindfulness combined together,
Our sensations,
Especially I would say physical sensations that are often disregarded,
Can be a very rich source for creative inspiration.
This is what we will be also exploring today in the guided meditation and the creative exercise at the end of our life.
And in a nutshell,
Tuning into the sensations and becoming mindful of our inner states,
We can discover new perspectives,
New metaphors that we can use in our creative process and new ways of expressing ourselves,
Because any creative process is about authenticity,
About you,
Something that you would like to bring into this world.
So staying connected and true to yourself is crucial,
Is the key.
Let me know guys,
If you agree with that,
Whether you're feeling or thinking differently about it,
Which is completely fine,
Please share your thoughts on that.
Speaking about my personal experience,
When I was preparing the guided meditation,
The mind-body experience for Digital Nomad's Body Conference last week,
I was,
To be honest,
Pretty,
Pretty short in time and packed with the work deadlines,
So it wasn't actually a good state where I could create freely,
Where I could come up with the best ideas and make a best experience for the participant.
And I realized that.
So what helped me on that day,
When I found myself in that situation is taking a walk in a park,
In nature,
No music,
No reading,
No talking,
No podcasts,
As I usually do,
But simply being.
Walking barefoot on a grass,
Connecting with the sensations in my feet,
Noticing the freshness of the air,
Or even hugging a tree.
I love hugs and hugging trees also is one of the experiences that helps to connect to nature.
This is,
This took me just maybe half an hour.
I didn't have much time to spend outside,
But it truly helped me to relax my mind and to free my body from that tension that was living inside.
So coming back home,
I set for myself a couple of hours to create,
And it was a beautiful time.
Anything,
Let me say,
Nothing was forced and I could enjoy this time fully.
So just a hint of that.
It probably may work for you too.
And from my coaching experience,
I was working with a creative soul,
With a painter,
And at some point of our coaching,
She came to our session and she was struggling with creating a painting that she had an idea of for a long time.
So what we did also,
In a nutshell,
We focused not only during our session on getting back to yourself and connecting with yourself and sensations,
But also her homework was to connect with the physical sensations during her creative process while she was painting.
So when we become aware of what happens inside,
When we are creating in this case,
Also helps our brain to sort of look for it in the future.
So we know what we are.
Ooh,
We have fireworks here.
I don't know if you guys can see it or not.
Yes.
So it all worked out at the end.
And the next time we met for our next session,
She shared that she could overcome this barrier,
This,
Let me say,
Tunnel where she felt she was stuck.
Right.
So when we become aware of how the creative process flows for us,
Because again,
It is deeply personal.
It varies from one person to another.
One prefers to create in a quiet space by themselves.
Another feels great in a noisy co-working space or when discussing it with the body and so on.
So when we become aware of how it goes with us and work through some specific blockages,
That is an amazing way,
An effective way,
How we can tap into that creative state anytime we need or want it.
So here I would like to summarize and highlight that creativity isn't just a mental process.
It is the whole body experience.
Let me know guys,
If it is clear,
Whether you again agree or disagree with that,
How you see the creative process for yourself and in what kind of environment or state you create the best.
In a few minutes,
We will be moving to our short guided meditation related to our topic.
And after that,
We will have a five minute creative exercise,
Which is,
I'm pretty sure accessible for all of us.
Do not worry.
It will be very simple,
But it will be a great example of how mindfulness,
Mind-body connection works for the benefit of creativity.
Tina,
I am more creative when I feel at ease.
Yeah,
Absolutely.
We already talked about it briefly that we cannot actually create or force ourselves to create when we are feeling tense,
Anxious,
Or under stressed.
Right?
So we need to shift the state that we are in and absolutely the easiness feels just right for creation.
Tina,
If you don't mind sharing,
How do you tap into that state of ease?
What helps you with that?
For me,
It all depends on the moment.
As I previously mentioned,
I may go to a park to spend some time in nature by myself.
On the other hand,
It may be just talking to a very close friend or another creative soul,
Just sharing the experiences,
The struggles,
Not necessarily even seeking for advice,
But having this meaningful interaction with somebody.
It can be for me as well,
Going for a physical activity to the gym or having a yoga session,
Of course,
Taking a short break for mindfulness meditation or a body scan meditation,
Which enhances the mind-body connection.
So many different techniques or practices that we can use and explore together as well.
Breathwork is very powerful.
If you've ever had a breathwork session or attended a breathwork ceremony,
Even five minutes,
As little as five minutes can change the biochemical state in our body,
Which will improve or shift our mental and emotional states.
So having,
For example,
An hour-long breathwork ceremony,
Wow,
Will have very powerful effects and changes.
And in,
I would say,
95,
98%,
It will be a positive shift.
Of course,
It is deeply personal,
But what I've seen when working with my clients and attending these kinds of ceremonies myself,
Yeah,
That works magic.
Tina,
The comment from you,
Getting in touch with my breath,
A walk,
Yes,
Talking with like-minded people.
Yeah.
So you're also mentioning the breath,
Amazing that you've explored it for yourself as well.
And speaking of like-minded people,
Even if it is not somebody close,
Like a close friend or a partner,
But just somebody who has perhaps similar experiences or who you feel you would like to connect at this moment is also a great source of creativity itself.
Very shortly,
I would like to mention that how we can cultivate more mindful approach to creativity in our daily life is becoming or practicing more self-compassion,
Being more patient with ourselves,
And of course,
Entering the state of creativity.
I believe it is pretty clear that all of these qualities will only support us in the creative process,
Whereas if we are having too high expectations,
Or if we are putting a lot of pressure on ourselves by ourselves,
Or if we are judging ourselves in the creative process,
Perhaps when something doesn't work out,
Or we've kind of failed,
Or it just doesn't go the way we expected,
Will only worsen the situation.
So self-compassion,
Patience,
And non-judgment are,
I would say,
The key elements that we should approach creativity with.
And once again,
Before we will be moving to our guided practice,
I would like to highlight that it is crucial to reconnect with ourselves and with our bodies,
Because it will guide our self-expression during the creativity process.
We can use our bodies as a compass to a greater authenticity and creative expression,
And of course,
Mindful creative practices is just about creating a harmonious relationship between our minds and bodies,
And we all can learn how to do that in our personal ways,
In unique ways that support us,
Depending on where we are in life,
Our current conditions,
Surroundings,
Our preferences.
So we can tailor it all to support ourselves in the best way possible.
Gee,
Sometimes it is the fear to start a process,
Not the result itself.
How can we go over this fear to start creativity process?
Amazing,
Amazing question.
Thank you for asking that.
Yes,
The fear,
I would say,
Is almost a constant companion when we are trying to do something new.
I would like to acknowledge that it is completely normal to fear something,
To experience that it is a part of our human nature,
And we shouldn't be afraid of the fear itself,
Right?
So I would say this is the first step to acknowledge your fear and perhaps to accept it as it is,
To say,
Right,
I'm kind of scared now,
Or I see this fear,
I feel it,
And it is okay.
Well,
The second step perhaps would be to give yourself a time,
Perhaps set a timer for five minutes and allow yourself to just start doing that,
Whatever you want to do,
Whether create something writing,
Writing a poem or a painting on a small piece of paper,
To just start this creative process with this fear.
Just five minutes.
It doesn't have to be a long session,
But doing it,
Making this first step with your fear,
Not against it,
You don't have to get rid of it,
Will shift your mental state,
Your thoughts about the fear,
And your physical state.
I'm sure that the sensations in the body related to the fear will also change.
So acknowledge that,
Give yourself five minutes to work with it.
And however,
The experience will change for you after this five minutes,
I'm sure you will figure out the best way to continue the creative process for yourself.
Gee,
Does it resonate with you?
Is it something that you think might help you or not?
If it is not,
It's completely fine.
And of course,
I would like to ask you the same question.
How do you usually go over this fear to start?
I can see that we are 56 meditators here.
That is amazing.
Thank you guys so much for your presence.
I truly,
Truly appreciate that.
And also I would like to thank you guys for your donations,
Whether it is during this live event or after.
Donations is a great way to support teachers on Insight Timer.
It truly helps.
No matter how small the donation is,
It is first of all,
A way to understand for us that we are doing something meaningful,
Something supportive,
Something that is of your interest.
It is a great motivation to continue hosting these free accessible live events for all of us and to create more meditations and courses.
So thank you guys in advance for that as well.
Gee,
The comment from you,
I really appreciate your thoughts because personally,
I'm still at the point where I fear wins and I simply stop.
Thank you so much for being vulnerable to share that.
Yes,
Of course.
You're very welcome.
Always welcome.
Ida Han,
I'm not sure how to pronounce your name.
I'm so sorry if I did it wrongly.
Hi all.
Hi to you too.
Welcome to our live event.
Gee,
I need to give my fear and myself a chance to sit together with no judgments.
Yes,
That is a great way.
And do not be scared of anything that might come up to you in the process of just sitting with your fear because negative emotions,
Or as I love to call them,
Uncomfortable emotions and fears are not our enemies.
They are actually our best friends.
They tell us probably that something is wrong or that we may or should change something,
They are great indicators for us.
And don't be scared of the fear itself,
Right?
Also,
What I took a note myself of,
You can also reflect,
What are you afraid of?
What is this fear about?
You mentioned previously that your fear wins.
Great that you already know that about yourself.
And why,
What may happen if you win?
What consequences will it have for you?
And the next steps would be imagine or visualize these consequences.
Allow yourself to live through these consequences in the meditation.
Not only mentally,
But again,
Physically.
Allow your body to experience that as it is happening right here and right now.
So when we are imagining either any,
Any type of fears,
Sort of the most negative result,
The worst thing that can happen,
We relive it in the meditation process,
In our imagination,
Visualizing that.
And we,
This way release the tension that is building up inside our bodies in response to this fear.
So when we release the tension,
We open up,
We access another state,
Something new.
That is a great practice.
And that is what I am guiding my clients during our sessions together.
If you need again,
Some support through this process,
Feel free to reach out.
We'll be very happy to connect with you as well.
Well,
This was all for our discussion part of the live event.
Please guys,
Any questions,
Thoughts,
Shares,
Before we dive into our guided meditation,
The meditation itself will take about 10 minutes.
After that,
Right after that,
We will have a creative exercise for just five minutes.
So 15 minutes of practice together in total to have a glimpse of how the mind-body connection,
How mindfulness and creativity are linked.
Meanwhile,
You are free to find a space,
A position for the guided meditation.
Drink a bit of water or prepare a blanket if it is a little bit chilly,
With cushion,
And we will start very shortly.
Okay.
So if there are no questions,
All is great.
Let's move to the guided practice.
This short meditation is designed to quiet the mental chatter and connect with your body,
Creating a space for presence and openness.
By grounding yourself in sensation and allowing emotions to flow,
You will prepare your mind and body to access a more creative state.
So begin by finding a comfortable position.
You can sit,
Lie down,
Or even stand,
Whatever allows you to feel most at ease at this very moment.
Allow your body to settle,
Noticing the points of contact between your body and the surface beneath you.
Gently close your eyes or soften your gaze.
And let's start by bringing the attention to your breath.
Notice the gentle rise and fall of your abdomen,
The natural flow of breath.
The subtle sensation of air moving in and out of your nostrils.
There is no need to change your breath,
But simply observe it.
And allow it to become an anchor,
Grounding you in this present moment.
Let's shift our awareness to the sensations within your body and begin by noticing the sensations in your feet.
Perhaps you feel the weight of your feet,
The warmth or coolness of the air around them,
Or the gentle pressure of your socks or shoes.
Slowly move your awareness upwards,
Noticing the sensations in your legs,
Your lower legs,
Knees,
And thighs,
And glutes.
Feel the contact of your legs with a chair or the floor and the gentle flow of energy within your legs.
Continue to move your awareness upwards,
Noticing the sensations in your torso,
In all the parts of it.
Your pelvic area and lower belly,
Lower back,
Middle back,
And stomach.
Even the organs inside your belly.
Notice the sensations in your chest and upper back,
Shoulder blades and shoulders.
Feel your heart and the movement in your lungs.
Observe each sensation with curiosity and without judgment.
There is no need to analyze or interpret them,
So simply allow them to be present.
Rest your attention in your arms.
Upper arms,
Armpits,
Elbows,
And lower arms,
Both hands,
And all the fingers.
If you notice any areas of tension or tightness,
Simply acknowledge them.
And allow them to soften if they will.
Move your awareness to the throat and your neck,
Jaw and cheeks,
Nose and eyes,
Lips,
Front,
Ears,
Mouth,
And even inside your mouth,
The point where your neck and head connect,
The whole scalp,
And even your hair.
Feel the gentle flow of energy through your body and the subtle movements and shift that occur with each breath.
Allow your body to become a landscape of sensation,
A source of grounding and presence.
Let's gently expand our awareness to include the emotions,
Feelings,
And thoughts that are present in this moment.
Notice any emotions that are arising,
Perhaps a sense of anticipation,
Excitement,
Or even a touch of nervousness.
And allow these emotions to be present without judgment or resistance.
And simply observe your emotions as passing waves,
Acknowledging their presence without getting carried away.
Remember that it is safe for you to experience these emotions.
And they are the keys for you to understand yourself better and connect with yourself deeper.
Notice any feelings that are present in your body,
Any sensations.
Maybe it is a sense of warmth or coolness or tingling.
Allow anything that is to be present,
No judgment,
No resistance.
And if any of the thoughts arise or you find yourself distracted or carried away from the practice,
Simply bring your attention back to it,
To experiencing the sensations without forcing anything.
It is a natural process,
And all you have to do is just redirect your attention again and again.
Notice any thoughts that are arising,
Maybe the thoughts about the upcoming creative exercise,
Or simply random thoughts that drift in and out of your awareness.
There is no need to think these thoughts,
To analyze them or understand them.
Simply allow them to be.
Allow your mind to become a quiet space,
Like a pond reflecting the present moment.
And again,
If you find yourself being caught up in the stories that your mind creates,
Simply bring back your awareness to observing your thoughts as individual clouds or leaves falling from a tree.
Allow your body,
Emotions,
Sensations,
And thoughts to be present.
Allow yourself to be present.
And breathe.
This quiet state,
This connection with your mind and your body is a powerful tool for accessing your creative potential.
Gently bring back your awareness to the room,
To the space where you're in.
Notice the sounds around you,
The feeling of air on your skin.
Add some movement into your body,
Whether moving gently or stretching a little bit.
Take a moment to appreciate this sense of presence and connection that you have cultivated.
And when you feel ready,
Take a slightly deeper breath and open your eyes.
Thank you so much for practicing today with me.
I wish you guys to carry this state that you have cultivated into our creative exercise.
And please share how this experience was for you.
This guided meditation took a little longer than I planned,
But I'm sure it created a deeper space for us to tap into ourselves at a deeper level.
Tina,
The comment from you.
Thank you,
Diana.
You are very,
Very welcome.
Thank you for your comment.
I truly appreciate that.
Also,
Guys,
Feel free to share whether something was uncomfortable or didn't work for you or was difficult during this meditation experience.
I'm very open to your feedback.
It truly helps me to improve my guidance,
My professional skills.
So never hesitate to share your feedback,
Whatever it is.
Thank you all guys for practicing the meditation.
And let's move to our creative exercise.
Tina,
I liked your guidance.
Great.
Thank you so much.
I'm glad that it worked well for you.
So this exercise will be free writing.
One of my favorite ones.
I'm journaling myself in different styles every single day.
It helps not only to widen the perspectives,
To open up the mind,
But also to enhance the mind-body connection,
To bring myself back to the present moment.
For this exercise,
You may need a pen and paper.
I strongly encourage you guys to practice it,
Writing it down with your hand,
If it is possible.
If not,
You may take notes in your cell phone or computer,
Any digital form,
Or even mentally,
Just reflecting on the questions and prompts that I will be giving you.
This exercise should take about five minutes,
Very quick,
Just to help you tune into that creative state a bit deeper.
Let's just reflect on your day,
Whether it was today or yesterday.
And remember,
Were you kind to yourself today?
Think of some specific moments that occur in your mind now.
Did you acknowledge your efforts,
Even small and tiny ones?
Or the moments where you offered yourself words of encouragement when facing challenges?
Did you allow yourself rest when you needed it?
And the answers to these questions shouldn't be all positive.
If some or even most of the answers is no,
Or you are not feeling satisfied with your answers,
It's completely okay.
It is life,
It is our experience,
We are all humans.
Approach it with a non-judgmental state of mind.
Simply writing down or taking a mental note of what comes to you.
And if you have noticed the opposite,
Perhaps the times or moments when you were critical or harsh with yourself,
Realize what triggered those moments.
Perhaps what sensations were associated with this kind of self-criticism or negative inner talk.
It might have been tension or tightness,
Physical sensations of anxiety in your chest or belly.
And if nothing specific comes to your mind,
That is absolutely fine.
The answer is already in the question.
And looking ahead,
What could you do differently tomorrow to show yourself more compassion?
What small acts of kindness could you offer yourself?
Maybe you could speak to yourself with more gentleness or prioritize your needs without feeling guilty.
Could you acknowledge your worthiness?
