Mindfulness And Intuition: Accessing Your Inner Wisdom
by Diana Mirs
This is a recording of our "Daily Mindfulness with Diana Mirs" live event, which includes practical tips for incorporating mindfulness into your decision-making process. Together with your Mind-Body Connection Coach, Diana Mirs, we will delve into the power of Intuition, differentiating it from impulsive thinking and explaining its mind-body connection—how subtle signals often manifest as a tangible "gut feeling." You'll learn how mindfulness clears the mental clutter that drowns out these signals, and explore the gut-brain axis as a pathway for intuitive information. The event discusses practices like freewriting and mindful movement to cultivate self-trust and includes a Guided Meditation: Centering and Listening for accessing inner cues. I invite you to check the "Daily Mindfulness with Diana Mirs" playlist for the recording of other events and guided meditations from this series.

Hello,
My friends,
Welcome to our live event.
I'm very happy that you are in our space today,
And I'm very excited to spend an hour or so together today discussing mindfulness and intuition.
My name is Diana,
I am a Mind-Body Connection coach,
A meditation teacher,
And a psychosomatic specialist.
It is the series of live events that I'm hosting this year on Inside Timer called Daily Mindfulness with Diana Meyers.
And each week we are discussing different aspects of mindfulness.
We were talking about mindfulness in the context of sleep,
Gratitude.
We were speaking about mindful movement,
Supporting conscious morning and evening routines that we can construct to ourselves to increase the quality of our lives again with the help of mindfulness.
We were speaking about mindfulness in the context of creativity,
It was a very nice discussion with you guys.
As we can see,
Mindfulness plays a crucial role in our lives and can definitely help us not only to live a better life,
Generally speaking,
But also to achieve our goals and dreams.
Today,
We will speak about intuition and how mindfulness can help us cultivate and enhance our inner voice.
Of course,
All of the discussions are related to Mind-Body Connection,
And we are discussing some practical tools,
How we can implement not only mindfulness,
But various supportive practices into our daily lives.
And at the end of this live event,
We will have a short guided meditation that will help us to connect with our inner wisdom,
With our intuition.
Before we dive deeper into our topic,
I am very curious how you guys understand intuition.
What is intuition to you?
This would be perhaps the most important question to open up a discussion and to evaluate whether we are on the same page about intuition and inner wisdom,
Or perhaps we have different points of view on that,
Which is completely great and it will only enrich our discussion.
So please let me know,
Guys,
How do you understand intuition and what it is for you?
Anna,
Here's your comment.
My understanding of intuition is having that gut feeling telling you that something is wrong or you should do something and it is accurate right when you choose that option.
Oh,
Perfect.
Well,
Thanks for putting it into words.
I absolutely resonate with the words gut feeling.
We will also talk about it in more detail a little bit later.
And your words,
It is accurate or right when you choose that option.
Great.
So I would assume that you have made intuitive decisions in the past and they were right for you.
Am I right about it?
Please let us know.
And if you're open to that,
Share your experience.
It sounds very,
Very curious.
And I wouldn't disagree that intuition is always right.
Let me say that.
Yeah,
Boldly.
Anna.
Yes.
Sometimes I choose an option and it would be right.
Yes.
Great.
I'm happy to hear that.
Geri,
Intuition is a godwink.
That's an interesting definition of it.
Perfect.
Yes.
Thank you.
Thank you,
Guys,
For sharing that.
To me,
Intuition is also this inner knowing,
The inner voice,
Which is usually very quiet and peaceful and quite confident,
The voice itself.
And I would say that it is the opposite of impulsive thinking or making impulsive decisions if we are speaking about choices.
Intuition is more subtle,
Of course.
It carries a sense of deep certainty.
Even if we may not be so sure about that,
But intuition itself is that solid knowing.
And it often manifests in our bodies,
Not just only as a thought,
A mental thought,
But as tangible bodily sensation and,
As Anna mentioned previously,
A gut feeling.
Yes.
Most of the time,
And from my experience and from the experience of my clients,
And backed with neuroscience,
Intuition lives in the gut sort of area.
Right.
That is why we call it the gut feeling.
And it has a lot of proof,
Scientific proof,
Because of all of the neurons,
That vast net of neurons and nerves that live in our gut.
And it is strongly associated and connected to our brain.
So all of this network goes from our brain to our gut and back up.
So it is a bi-directional communication inside of our body.
So that is why sometimes gut is called our second brain,
Because,
Well,
It knows.
And if to bring up the concept of mindfulness in this context,
This is what can help us hear this little inner voice,
Our gut feeling.
Let me know,
Guys,
If it is clear,
Whether perhaps there is some confusion.
I'll be happy to expand on these moments.
And perhaps you can add something that popped up in your mind as well.
In a few moments,
We will talk a little bit more about how mindfulness supports intuition.
I would like to ask you guys,
How do you see the relation between mindfulness and intuition?
Or perhaps you are questioning this relationship and it's not so obvious for you.
Please also let me know that.
It's perfectly fine.
Maybe you can also tell us some of your personal experience that proved the connection between mindfulness and intuition.
During this pause,
I would like to remind you guys that all of these live events are recorded and I upload them as talks here on Insight Timer.
And the guided meditation part will be uploaded,
Of course,
As a guided meditation,
A separate track on Insight Timer.
So if you have missed any of the previous lives or want to release it to some parts of it or practice again the guided meditations,
You are very welcome to do so.
Please subscribe to my profile here on the app and you'll stay tuned for the future lives as well.
And I'm also very happy always to hear back from you.
So if you do listen to the tracks or meditations of mine,
Please let me know how it went for you and leave a comment after you complete that.
It is very valuable feedback for me to know how I can serve you guys better.
So never hesitate to keep in touch or even send me a direct message here on the platform.
Let's go back to mindfulness.
And I usually give this kind of illustration to the newcomers or my clients.
We can imagine our mind as a very busy marketplace full of to-do lists,
Some chaotic thoughts,
A lot of noise,
Maybe some judgments.
And in this chaotic environment,
This subtle whispers and gentle voice of the intuition can easily get lost and we wouldn't even be able to hear or feel it.
And mindfulness acts like a calming presence in this marketplace.
So by intentionally bringing our awareness and attention to the present moment,
To the here and now,
We can begin to quiet our mind and all of this chatter that is happening inside of our head.
We will learn to observe the thoughts without judgment,
Without clinging to them,
Without thinking them,
Without getting into the stories that our mind draws to us.
And we can create a peaceful stillness and clarity within ourselves with mindfulness.
So this inner calmness is essential for accessing our intuition.
Mindfulness would be the first step to work with our inner voice.
And when our mind is quieter and less cluttered,
We become more attuned with our bodily sensations,
With the signals of our physical bodies,
With our inner knowing.
It is like if we turn down the volume of a very loud and even chaotic speaker that speaks with perhaps tens of different voices and even languages,
So you can finally hear that soft and quiet whisper from the inside.
Well,
That is how I see the relationship between mindfulness and intuition,
How I imagine it happening inside of me,
How I observe it happening in my client's experiences during our session.
It's a very beautiful process.
And again,
It is a very calming process itself.
But here I want you guys not to expect anything from the practice,
Either mindfulness practice or when you start working with intuition,
Rather than do that with open mind and a lot of curiosity without any pressure,
Because each process,
Each person is unique and you will go your own path and you will discover the next step only by walking this path.
So you don't have to know how to do everything,
How to access your inner voice in the very beginning.
You just need to start and without any pressure,
Probably experiencing it as a game with playfulness will be a more joyful process to yourself as well.
And if it doesn't work from the first practice or the first time you approach your intuition,
Do not give up,
Try something else or keep walking this path.
And I'm sure the results will not be waiting long for you.
Yeah,
I thought it would be important to mention that because I see a lot of frustration from some people who are really dedicated to exploring themselves or to trying something new,
Working with the intuition as well.
But this inner frustration and uncertainty,
Unknowing yet,
May stop them from continuing and that is often the point,
The point of change.
If you do decide to continue,
Well,
I'm sure that you will see beautiful changes and have really unexpected discoveries for yourself.
So a little bit of support and encouragement for you guys.
And I dedicate a lot of time to discussing mindfulness and a lot of life events to this topic of mindfulness because I truly believe that it is one of the most essential skills to develop.
And in my mind-body connection coaching,
When I work with others,
It helps to recognize,
To see not only some of the obstacles of people on the way to fulfilling their dreams or achieving their goals that they want to do in coaching,
But also to getting to know who you truly are and recognizing what you truly want.
In this case,
Be mindful of not only your thoughts,
But of your body,
Of some signals that it sends to you,
Of when your body says yes or no to something,
When learning to recognize the voice,
The inner voice,
This is when we can learn how to navigate life's choices with the support of your intuition,
As Anna mentioned previously,
Making that right choice,
Right for you.
And of course,
Nobody can tell you what is right,
But,
And perhaps your mind cannot fully tell you this either,
But your body,
As I see it,
Is the only way to learn what is right for you.
And of course,
There are some situations or conditions when the body sort of is lost or doesn't know if,
For example,
It is extremely dysregulated or is experiencing or going through some sort of a serious disease.
But even then,
It is possible to find that inner voice and the place of stillness and the place of knowing inside.
So when we go through this process of developing mindfulness about yourself with my clients,
That becomes the foundation,
The very solid foundation to make the right choices,
Either if it is a career choice,
If somebody wants to shift their careers,
But they're not very sure of what they want to do in their life or how to make that choice or how to shift their life into that direction,
Especially when we speak about the relationship choices.
And essentially building the life of their dreams,
Because how does it manifest into life?
By making the small steps,
The small right decisions and knowing the direction where you want to move on.
So in my work,
Mindfulness plays a huge role.
Especially it becomes very powerful with the power of the mind-body connection.
So these two concepts are perhaps best friends,
As I can put it into words.
Let me know,
Guys,
If there are any comments or questions in this part,
Whether you also feel that your intuition lives in your body or perhaps not.
I know that for some people it may be extremely different and I'm also very interested in knowing your opinions about that.
Noni,
The comment from you,
I have a bit of a challenge determining what is institute intuition and what is impulse.
Do you mean,
What do you mean by institute intuition?
Is it a typo or perhaps I do not grasp that concept?
Perhaps the difference between intuition itself and an impulse are right,
So it's a typo,
Right?
Intuition and an impulse.
Well,
An impulse to me is something very,
Of course,
Very impulsive.
I mean,
Something that pops up immediately in response to something.
And usually this immediate reaction is something wired to our responsive nervous system,
To the sympathetic nervous system.
And very often I would say in most cases,
This response would be based on something that your body has lived through previously,
And it might not be a healthy response,
But a coping mechanism,
For example.
These impulses that we get in our body help us to protect ourselves in a stressful situation when we need to either to escape something or to run away,
Or on the contrary,
To shut down.
Well,
Essentially to save ourselves from danger.
While intuition,
It is,
It is something opposite to me,
Something calmer.
As I mentioned,
It is a confident,
Quiet knowing,
And it doesn't have to be reactive or impulsive.
It doesn't have to be that loud as an impulse itself.
Perhaps it is not designed,
Intuition itself,
To save us from something,
But rather to guide us towards the right direction.
I'm not sure if I made it clear,
The difference between an impulse and an intuition,
But that is how I see it from also my personal experience and the science that speaks about it.
Nonny,
Comments from you.
Yes,
I've been told I'm very impulsive,
Yet I feel like it's my intuition.
Okay.
Impulsiveness seems to feel contracting.
Intuition feels expensive.
Great.
Well,
I really love how you put it into words.
Yes,
About impulsiveness,
Something contracting,
Right?
When you want to protect yourself from danger,
Right?
When you need to accumulate all of your strength and energy to either run away or to fight,
Yeah,
That's why it's called fight or flight mode.
And intuition is expensive,
Right?
In the moments when I access my intuition,
When I hear that,
I instantly become more relaxed and at peace,
Even my mind,
Not only my physical body,
Because I know,
And that's it,
And that's enough.
And if you say that you're told to be very impulsive,
But you feel like it's your intuition,
Of course,
It might be for you.
So I would just encourage you to explore it a bit deeper,
Perhaps to be more mindful in the moments when you feel impulsive or the moments when you think it is your intuition,
And either to find differences or similarities,
And that is how you will know your personal answer to the question that you asked me.
Thank you,
By the way,
For this question.
It's very,
Very curious to reflect on that.
No,
It makes sense,
Given the neuroscience you've shared.
Yes,
Well,
I'm glad that it makes sense.
Thank you,
And thank you guys for your hearts.
If there are any other questions,
You guys are very welcome to ask or to share your opinions on what we have discussed here already.
In the next part of our life today,
I would like to speak about some of the practices that can help us to enhance our intuition and to enhance the connection with our inner voice.
Before I share my list of it,
I would like to hear from you guys.
If something helps you to connect with your intuition,
And if you have some of such practices,
Please share with us.
I'm sure it will be helpful for all of us today.
How do you guys connect to your inner voice?
Non-silence in nature.
Excellent.
Yeah,
Silence is also in my list.
I absolutely feel the same way,
And especially silence in nature would be not even twice more helpful,
But 20 times more.
Absolutely.
Thank you for sharing that.
Yes,
Perhaps just practicing kind of Vipassana meditation when you just sit in silence helps us to quieten our inner chatter,
Our thoughts,
Judgments,
Hesitations in our head,
And even if we do that for five minutes,
It will be beneficial for us.
So all of the practices that we will be discussing today that I will be mentioning,
They do not require to be practiced for a long time,
But better to say regularly and for a shorter time,
It will be much more effective.
Among other practices I would like to mention is the gut feeling check-ins.
So throughout your day,
I would definitely recommend to do it daily.
Consciously check with your gut area and with your whole body to notice any sensations that are present in that area,
And especially in response to some situations or decisions or even people.
So this way you can calibrate within you and get to know how the yes or no response manifests in your body.
And the next time you would like to make the right decision,
The right for you,
You can simply ask yourself,
Your gut,
Your inner voice to speak to you and almost instantly you will know whether it says yes or no with this mindful gut check-ins.
Another powerful one is a creative visualization.
As I like to do it,
For example,
I have some problem that I do not know how to solve or a decision that I have to make.
Perhaps there are two directions I can go to.
And I visualize the first scenario of how it can manifest in my life.
I go through some details or just generally visualizing the outcome.
And I tune into the bodily sensations in that moment,
How my body reacts to this visualization of the first option.
Okay,
I sort of evaluated,
I become aware of that.
And then taking a deep breath,
Just neutralizing all of the feelings inside,
I go into the second direction and I see how my body responds in that case.
And in most of the cases,
The sensations will be very,
Very different.
Not necessarily better or worse,
They would be just different.
And again,
Being with those sensations,
Being mindful of them,
You can see the difference of how you felt during visualizing this both paths.
And,
And I guess that is the time when you will know what feels better to you.
What is better,
What is right.
Right for you.
So that is what I call creative visualization to help us to connect with our intuition.
Thank you guys for the heart.
I imagine that it also resonates with you.
Let me know if you have practiced any of those,
Or you have something else you would like to share with us.
Another practice that also worked well,
Not only for me,
But to many of my clients is journaling and free writing.
So in this case,
You may journal about the outcomes you may visualize,
Or just set an intention to work with a specific problem or make a specific decision,
Allow yourself to write on paper with a pen freely,
Without any expectations,
Without thinking too much,
Without worrying about the sentences or constructions,
But just letting your body put its wisdom on the paper for you to read it,
That is how I would like to say that.
And that is why I encourage you guys to journal on paper with a pen or pencil with your hand,
Rather than using electronic devices,
Which are,
Of course,
Seem to be more convenient,
But this handwriting enhances our mind-body connection and works on a much deeper level with intuition.
Of course,
You guys can discover many guided meditations here on Inside Timer that will help you to work with intuition.
It can be simple body scans,
So you can tune better into your bodily sensations.
It can be centering and grounding meditation,
Which I also have in my profile,
You guys can check and practice it after our live event today or at any other time,
That will also help you not only to connect with your body in the present moment,
But also to find that perfect spot of balance and confidence inside of you.
And of course,
Mindful movement,
Whichever it can be for you,
Simple walk in nature or outside when you're mindfully present in your body,
Yoga,
Tai chi,
Or anything else that works best for you will help you to connect your mind and your body and hence access intuition more easily.
Let me know,
Guys,
If there are any questions,
Comments you would like to share before we move to our guided meditation for today.
I want to thank you guys for your donations here on Inside Timer,
Either during this live event or after.
Donations are a great way to support teachers here on the platform.
It shows that you guys are interested in what we are discussing today,
That our teacher's content is valuable for you.
So thank you guys so much for your support.
It is also a great way to exchange here within the platform.
So it is a big support to all of the teachers that are creating here on the platform.
Noni,
The woman from you,
Very grateful.
I'm feeling shaky after a taxing day of teaching junior high.
I guess after a full day of teaching junior high.
Yeah,
Well,
I can imagine that to being a teacher is,
Requires a lot of energy,
Effort,
And strength.
Yeah.
So I hope you have a relaxing evening so you can unwind.
Yes.
And except this shaking,
You can actually shake it out of your body.
Yeah.
One of my favorite practices to do before I go to sleep,
To release all the stress.
Hardest job on earth.
Kids are brutal these days.
Oh my God.
I can't even imagine.
Yeah.
So thank you so much for your work.
It's always appreciated.
Yeah.
It's one of the hardest jobs.
I totally agree.
But at the same time,
The most important ones,
Undoubtedly.
Noni,
Where are you from and which country are you?
Utah,
USA.
Yeah.
Right.
Thank you for keeping in touch during our life.
And all of you guys,
Please remember that you can reach me via the direct messages on Insight Timer as well.
If you have any questions,
If you would like to work together in MindBody Connection coaching,
Or perhaps you would like personalized guided meditation.
I'm always happy to connect with all of you.
All right.
I guess it is time to move to our guided practice.
Noni,
Your comment,
Social media is raising our kids.
I do all I can to encourage kindness.
Yeah.
Social media is a big part of our life.
With all its benefits and disadvantages,
Absolutely.
And the human connection that we all are striving for and that you provide to your students in the classroom,
It is essential and crucial for us human beings.
So again,
Just keep doing so.
All right.
Let's begin by finding a comfortable position,
Whether you are seated,
Lying down,
Or even walking or standing.
Feel how you are supported by the earth or surface beneath you.
Allow yourself to settle deeply,
Noticing the points of contact between your body and the earth.
Take a deep breath in,
Sending the air in your belly,
Chest,
And head.
And with the next exhale,
Sigh it out.
Allowing yourself to relax a little bit more.
Take another deep breath in.
And with an exhale,
Close your eyes if it feels comfortable to you.
Or soften your gaze.
One more mindful breath in.
And out through your purse sleeves like you're breathing out through a straw.
Elongating your breath out and allowing all the thoughts and worries to melt away.
Continue breathing naturally and rest your attention for a while in your whole body.
Place all of your attention into your feet,
However they are.
Either fold it if you're cross-legged or touching the floor beneath you.
And notice any sensations present in your feet.
Maybe some tingling,
Warmth,
Or coolness.
And allow your awareness to slowly travel up towards your legs,
Calves,
Knees,
Thighs,
Glutes.
Notice your weight,
Pressure,
Perhaps some movements or shifts.
And continue this mindful journey throughout your pelvic area,
Hips,
Belly.
Notice the movement in your belly and stomach area caused by your breath.
Feel your chest expanding and softening.
Pay attention to your back,
Noticing either any tension or where it makes the contact with the support.
Bring your awareness to your arms,
Elbows,
Hands,
And your fingers.
Notice any sensations that are present in your arms,
On your skin.
Embrace with your attention your shoulders,
Neck,
And throat.
And traveling up to your face,
Ears,
Scalp,
And even hair.
Become aware of your whole body as one.
And throughout this exploration of sensations,
Remember that your body holds a wealth of information,
Often communicating,
Speaking with you through these subtle sensations.
These feelings can be gentle messengers from your intuition,
Signaling what resonates and what doesn't.
As you continue to breathe naturally,
Observe the activity of your mind.
You may visualize this space inside your head and notice what thoughts arise,
Perhaps about the past or future or something absolutely random.
Acknowledge these thoughts without any judgment,
Without even thinking them.
You don't have to follow the stories that are created in your head.
Simply observe them as light clouds in the sky passing by.
Do not try to grasp them or push away.
And if you get caught by any of the thoughts or stories,
Simply return your focus back to your natural breath and the sensations in your body.
Allow a sense of spaciousness within your mind to be created in your head.
A quiet inner landscape where the subtle whispers of your intuition can be heard more clearly.
And again,
No expectations,
No forcing,
Simply being here and now.
Imagine you are tuning into a very quiet radio frequency,
Requiring stillness and focused attention to get the message.
This inner stillness allows you to listen beyond the louder voices of your analytical mind,
Accessing a deeper layer of knowing.
Now,
Gently bring to mind a question or a situation in your life where you seek guidance.
It could be something small,
Everyday decision,
Or a more significant life choice.
Hold this question or situation softly in your awareness without gripping or trying to force an answer.
Simply present it to your own inner wisdom,
Like offering a gentle inquiry.
And continue breathing naturally,
Not seeking the answer but rather allowing the answer to come to you.
Become very attentive to any subtle responses that arise within your body,
Your emotions,
In your mind.
Notice any shifts in sensations,
A feeling in your gut,
Lightness or tension in your heart,
A fleeting image or a word that comes to you.
These are often the first and quiet whispers of your intuition.
Trust these initial whispers.
However subtle that may seem,
There is no need to analyze them right now.
Simply observe and acknowledge their presence.
Take a moment now to consciously acknowledge this inherent wisdom that resides within you.
Affirm your inner ability to trust yourself,
To listen to and honor your inner voice.
With each slow,
Deep breath,
Cultivate a feeling of self-trust,
A deep knowing that you are guided and supported by your own inner wisdom.
Feel this trust not as a mental affirmation but as a tangible sensation in your body.
However it can be for you.
Perhaps a sense of groundedness in your lower belly,
A feeling of openness in your chest,
Or a quiet confidence radiating outwards.
Allow this feeling of trust to anchor itself within your physical being,
A solid foundation upon which to make choices and navigate your path.
Gently begin to deepen your breaths,
Bringing a little more energy into your body.
Add some movement into your body parts.
And take a moment to notice how you feel.
Perhaps a sense of clarity,
A feeling of peace,
Or that quiet confidence.
Remember that this intuitive guidance is always available to you.
It is a constant source of wisdom that is accessible to you through mindful awareness and a deep connection to your mind and body.
Whenever it feels right to you,
With the next exhale,
You may open your eyes and arrive fully into your surroundings and the moment of here and now.
As you move throughout your day,
Continue to cultivate this inner listening,
Trust in this quiet whispers that arise from within.
Thank you so much for practicing with me.
This concludes our guided meditation for today.
Let me know,
Guys,
How it went for you.
I'm very curious about your feedback.
Whether something didn't feel right or perhaps something was difficult to follow,
Please also let me know.
Do not be hesitant about that.
I'm here to serve you better,
Guys,
To connect deeper with all of you.
I love spending time with you guys and discussing during our lives and creating even more content for you guys here on Insight Timer.
Nani,
The last comment was from you.
Your voice and presence is very soothing.
Thank you so much.
I'm so happy to hear that.
It makes my heart lighter and warmer,
Even physically.
Thank you.
I invite all of you guys to subscribe to my profile here on Insight Timer,
To stay tuned to the future live events,
To the new meditations that are coming.
And feel free to listen to the previous lives that are uploaded as tracks.
I have a very powerful Mind-Body Connection course that you may take here on the platform.
It is my favorite one.
And I was creating it and accumulating all of my knowledge,
Personal practices,
All of the neuroscientific research and implementing that in this course.
So I highly recommend you guys to check it out.
Thank you all,
Guys,
For your presence today,
For our discussion.
We will meet next week,
Next Monday,
The same time for another mindfulness event that will be dedicated to the power of pausing.
So I hope to see you soon,
Guys.
And have a great night,
Morning,
Or the rest of your day,
Wherever you are in the world.
See you soon.
Bye.
