Hi,
This is Dhyans here and you'll be tuning into a unique meditation session recorded live with my meditators in Switzerland,
Where for the first 15 minutes you'll listen to the theme of the session which will bring your mind,
Your heart and your energies together into a meditative state.
Then I'll guide you to go deep in a 30-minute meditation experience.
I wish you all the love,
Peace,
Happiness and awareness in life.
A very warm welcome to all of you in this Monday evening meditation session with me Dhyansai.
In today's session,
What I bring to you is the essence of almost all the wisdom traditions from yoga,
From Zen,
From Tantra.
So I hope that you will listen and meditate with me with your openness,
With your full heart,
Mind,
Body,
Soul,
Everything you'll bring here and for the next minutes be with me in this session.
Before we start the session,
I have a small exercise.
You have a piece of paper,
A pen in front of you and I would like you to write answers to two questions.
One,
What is one thing that when you will have,
You will be the happiest person in the whole world?
One thing.
And the second,
What is it that you already have and without it you will not be able to live?
Two questions.
First,
One thing that will make you the happiest person in the whole world and second,
One thing which you already have and without it you will not be able to live?
Looks like everyone is done writing.
Why we did this exercise?
Would you like to experience some magic in this session?
Yes or no?
Guys?
Yes.
Sounds good.
So let's bring some magic into the session.
What if I tell you that what you wrote about you is not about you?
Would that be magic?
Maybe not.
That's not the point.
What you wrote is not about you.
If you read what you wrote,
You wrote,
I will be the happiest person in the whole world.
If this and that,
I cannot live without this and that.
This I and you are the same things or two different things.
This I that you have written and answered these questions.
This I is your I.
There is a difference between you who's listening to me right now and your I.
And in today's session,
We're going to find out whether there is this difference between I,
Your I,
Your I,
Your I,
Everyone's I and you.
If who's listening to me right now is you,
Then there is a possibility of magic and there is a possibility of silence.
Then there is a possibility of meditation.
But if who's listening right now is your I,
Then there is trouble.
Then there is trouble just the way as long as your I is there is always trouble.
Your I has a name that you've written on the paper.
You are nameless.
Your I has a name.
Your I has desires which you have written on that piece of paper.
This will make me the happiest person in the world.
You are desireless,
Always desireless.
Your I has ambitions,
Has miseries,
Has joys,
Is wanting happiness,
Is sometimes happy,
Is sometimes not happy,
Is sometimes crying,
Is sometimes depressed,
Is sometimes sad.
You are desireless.
Your I has desires.
All what you have learnt in your life,
All that you have learned in your life,
All that you have learnt in your life is how to operate the I.
Your I functions,
Not you.
Your I acts in the world,
Not you.
If you remember,
There was this movie called The Dark Knight in which this famous actor Heath Ledger,
He played the role of a joker.
He was so intensely involved in the role.
He was such a great actor that he forgot that he was just the actor.
He was just playing the role.
He was so much identified,
So much involved with the role that his all his life became the role of the joker.
Eventually he moved into deep depression and had to take drugs and eventually died out of overdose of drugs.
This I,
This your I,
Which is constantly playing this role,
Which is wanting happiness,
Which is wanting things,
Which is wanting everything in this world,
Which is having ambitions,
Is different from you.
And it's not a play of language.
It's not a play of language.
Your I and you are two different things.
And meditation is a simple process to learn the difference between your I and you.
Who is this I is easier to define because you can say,
I want this.
I want that.
I am this.
I am that.
All of this you can define.
You can identify.
But who is really you?
Who is listening right now?
There is no name to it.
There's no form to it.
There's no shape to it.
There's no desire to it.
So it's not obvious,
Is not so obvious to identify who is really you.
Meditation gives you that space,
That silence in your daily life in which you can put away this I that you're operating with and remove this I and just be.
What's left?
You don't question what's left.
Who am I?
You don't raise as a question.
You just put this I on the side for a few moments and you just be.
Even when you are done with the meditation,
You pick the I up and you go on operating.
You go on continuing in your life the way you have always been.
But where is the magic?
Where is the difference?
Where is the trick?
You have a certain distance from this I.
The moment you create a certain distance from this I,
Everything changes because you realize that I is what keeps on changing.
But you who's listening right now does not change.
I has desires.
I has wishes.
I go through goes through miseries of life.
You are always a step away from it.
You are always just a witness.
You are only observing you are not going through the miseries of life of things or the joys or the sorrows.
The I is going through that.
And in this session,
What we're going to do is try to create this separation between your I and you.
That's a very small step,
But it has tremendous implications in your entire life.
All the problems,
The miseries,
Everything that is troubling you is you will see it's a derivative of I.
I is rooted in the world that is filled with all these miseries,
Problems,
Things that you're dealing with.
You are not of this world.
Your I is a part of this world because it is created by this world.
Your name,
Who gave you this name?
You did not choose it,
Your parents or somebody else.
Your I has a name.
You do not have a name.
Your I has a body,
Has a shape.
You do not have a body.
You do not have a shape.
Your I has a mind.
Your I keeps on living in this world and eventually one day dies.
You always remain constant.
You always remain alive or deathless or eternal,
However you want to call it.
Throughout spiritual practices,
They say you become desireless.
You become this,
You become that.
I cannot become desireless.
I will always have desires and you are already desireless.
You are already at peace.
You are already silent.
You are already at rest.
So there is no even becoming.
Only the I keeps on changing.
You always remain constant.
So in this session,
I would invite you to spend some energy from your daily mundane life to try to separate between your I and you and see what it brings to your life.
Not only in this session,
But outside the session as well.
When you practice this,
When you go into this for some time,
How this starts changing your life is a magic that you will have to live on your own and experience on your own.
You don't have to believe what I'm saying.
As a meditation,
As a practice,
Small,
Simple three steps.
The first step in this session will be that you will focus yourself and bring your attention to this I.
You will collect your awareness,
Your attention,
Your energy and focus on this I from where all this is emerging.
Your name,
I want this,
I want that.
What is this I?
Just bring your awareness and attention from everywhere,
From your thoughts,
From the noises outside,
From everywhere to your I.
That would be the step number one,
That you just go and take 10 minutes to bring all your awareness to this I.
Once you have established your awareness to I,
Step number two is to create that distance between you and this your I.
How to create this distance?
Simple technique from tantra.
When you breathe out,
When you exhale,
Along this exhalation,
You push this I to a certain distance.
When you will exhale,
Relax me,
When you exhale meditatively,
Sitting here with every exhalation,
Push this I to a distance.
And when you do this for a few times,
You see that it just doesn't remain as a concept.
It becomes your experience.
It becomes your reality.
It becomes clear in your consciousness with every breath,
Push this I a little bit at arm's length in front of you or around you wherever you find it comfortable.
Just in your mind,
In your entire consciousness,
You have the sense of I at a certain distance with every exhalation.
When you do this for 10 minutes,
You will see that you find yourself in a space which is empty,
In a space which is undescribable,
Which has no name,
Which has no shape,
And just stay silent in that space,
In that being,
Remain absolutely silent and aware for the rest 10 to 15 minutes of this meditation session.
In total,
We will sit for 25 to 30 minutes.
If you,
On my request to all of you would be to make sure that we are not disturbing anyone during the meditation together as a group,
We create the meditativeness,
The silence of this room,
The silence of this group,
And if we feel that there is a necessity for us to move because the body is in pain or you feel that you need to make some noise,
Try to let that go,
Try to move as quietly as possible so that nobody else is disturbed.
And we build this meditative energy in this room for the next 30 minutes in which you can go deep inside of yourself and go into this process of creating this arm's length with your own eye.
Is it clear how we are going to do this?
And I would invite you to close your eyes.
Before we meditate together,
Let me remind you that a comfortable posture is essential for meditation.
If you ever need a perfect cushion for your sitting posture,
Do check out my website,
Theansa.
Com Sit comfortably with your spine erect.
Back straight,
Shoulders down,
Head straight.
And take a nice deep breath.
Inhale from the nose.
Also exhale from the nose.
For the next minutes,
Bring your awareness to this sense of I.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four.
I- One,
Two,
Three,
Four.
Draw your attention inwards,
And keep it on this sense of I.
I.
I.
I.
Allow your body and mind to settle,
And your awareness on the sense of I.
I.
I.
Allow your awareness to settle on the sense of I.
I.
I.
Let go of everything else and your awareness on the sense of I.
I.
I.
Now with every exhalation,
Create this distance with this I.
I.
I.
I.
I.
Every exhalation.
I.
I.
Every exhalation,
Push this I as far as possible.
I.
Awareness on your exhalation,
And this separation,
This distance.
I.
Awareness on your exhalation.
With every exhalation,
Let go of the I.
I.
I.
I.
Awareness on your exhalation,
And let go of the I.
I.
I.
I.
And for the next minutes,
Don't do anything,
Just remain silent and aware.
Stay like this.
And more movement.
Remain absolutely silent and aware.
And this awareness,
You have no name.
In this awareness,
You have no form.
In this awareness,
You have no desires.
Only silence and awareness.
Maintain the silence and awareness.
And awareness.
I.
I.
I.
I.
Now bring your awareness back to your breath.
On the exhalation.
On the sense of I.
Notice the shift in your consciousness.
And while maintaining a distance from this sense of I,
Maintaining this inner silence,
You may open your eyes or remain silent with your eyes closed for the next couple of minutes.
If you have opened your eyes,
You may move your body.
And take this moment to absorb this experience,
To absorb this silence.
Reflect on what we practiced.
I.
And very gently and softly,
You may open your eyes.
When you move back into the world,
When you do things,
When you listen to others,
Just for the fun of it,
If not for something more,
Try to raise this question,
Am I listening or my I listening?
Because this will change the quality of every experience that you go through.
In every situation,
Try to ask yourself,
Is this my I or is it really me?
And see if it's useful,
See if it's just maybe nonsense for you,
Who knows.
An uncle of mine in India,
He was a smart man.
He had made a lot of money in his youth.
He was an old man.
And he,
In his old age,
He was all the time just talking to himself.
He was always sitting in his one room and always talking to himself,
Just almost throughout the day.
Somebody asked him,
What are you doing?
Why are you like this?
And he said,
Well,
I like to talk to a smart man.
That's why I'm talking to myself.
And on top of that,
I like to hear a smart man talking.
That's why I'm talking to myself.
So don't get caught up in this,
That there are two entities,
I,
The sense of I and me.
But just for the sake of your awareness,
Try to separate them and ask yourself,
Who's listening?
Just like right now,
Are you listening or is your I listening?
Thus,
This is what I could share with you from my experience of meditation so far with what all these wisdom traditions are trying to convey with the limited,
With the limitation of a language and to somehow convey that there is a difference between the I and you.
If you have any questions,
This part of the session is for you to share your experience.
If it was good,
Bad,
If there is something that clicked for you,
If you found everything totally not relatable,
Nonsense,
Anything that you took back from these last minutes that you spend in the session,
Anything anybody would like to share or ask questions about your meditation practice,
About the session is open for you.
Anyone,
Any questions,
Anything comes to your mind when you think about this topic.
Don't keep it in your heart.
Let it out.
Yes.
I had something that came,
I was talking to myself,
But just again,
Like a practice session,
I understood peace is within myself,
Except not that the outside world,
We're going to control it by day,
Whether it's going well or not.
That's what I took away the last time.
I had so much of that,
Mentally before,
But never really interested in self.
Yeah.
And then take longer.
Thanks for sharing that.
The message from this session is that you are always at peace.
You are always at rest.
You just need to break this identification with the I,
Which is restless,
Which is creating all the trouble.
And this process,
This simple process of separating you and your I,
It's a very small step,
But it changes the entire game.
So that's what I tried to bring into the session to give you a little taste of it through the practice of meditation.
Maybe you get the slight sense of,
Ah,
Maybe there is some gap.
Maybe there is a click.
And as you practice more and more,
That gap,
That separation becomes more and more.
And you see that whatever is going through all the troubles,
All the things is just your role,
Just your I,
Which has a name,
Which has a shape,
Which has a description,
Which has everything.
It's all real.
It's not an illusion,
But you are not always in contact with it.
You can also create a certain distance from it.
In our daily life,
The way we live,
We never have this opportunity of creating this distance.
So what happens is this I that is operating,
You're always together with it.
You're always so much involved with it.
And when you remain 24-7 in contact with your I,
You feel also miserable.
You feel also that there is no way out.
You will also feel unfulfilled or unsatisfied or unhappy or all that.
And only when you create this distance,
You create the separation between your I and you.
And it's not a mental separation.
It's not a psychological separation.
It's not a concept.
It's not only linguistics.
There is an experiential aspect to it.
If you get that,
If you have that in your experience,
Suddenly everything becomes easy.
The practice of meditation becomes relevant in your daily life.
Otherwise,
Until the time you have to practice this,
Maybe as a concept,
You have to invest some trust in it.
You have to invest some openness in it until that point.
But thanks for sharing.
Anyone else?
Any questions?
Last 60 seconds.
Anything to share?
Yes.
If you like to call it soul,
If that is relatable for you,
You can call it soul.
But for a lot of people,
Words like soul,
Being,
For a lot of people,
Words like soul,
Being or anything,
The moment we define it,
It either has an attraction or a repulsion for some people.
So if it's for you,
Meaningful to call it soul,
You can call it soul.
But best is to not give it any name.
Best is to not call it anything.
Just experience it.
And you know it in your experience when I say you or your I,
If you feel the difference,
That's enough.
And stay with who's hearing when I'm saying you.
That's the subtle crux,
Subtle difference,
But all the difference in the world.
Thanks for again asking.
Anything else?
Yes.
That's fine.
That's fine.
If it doesn't click for you,
There are so many ways in which you can approach meditativeness.
And this is why we meet every Monday,
Where we try to bring a totally new direction into the space of meditativeness.
If this approach is not clicking for you,
If this approach is not something that you find,
Then that's my way.
You can leave it.
There are so many ways to approach this topic and bring this in your life.
As long as you understand why you're meditating,
Why you want this,
It's absolutely fine.
So if this approach of separating is not the thing for you,
It's also fine.
Anyone else?
If not,
Then I would like to thank all of you for sharing your silence,
Your meditativeness,
Your openness with me in this session.
I look forward to joining you in the silence,
In this meditativeness in the next session as well.
Namaste.
