Guided Gibberish Practice Technique For An Empty Mind
There is a saying that the mind is a madhouse, and that we’re trapped in it. Meditation is a way to come out of the madhouse that we call the mind. There are many different meditation techniques, and some can be more radical than others. What we are discussing in today’s meditation is one of the more radical ones. It was first introduced by Osho. It’s called Gibberish.

Hi,
This is Dhyansi Anya listening to Dhyansi Meditation Podcast.
This meditation session was given in Basel,
Switzerland on 8th October 2018.
In this session we explore a very powerful cathartic technique called gibberish,
First introduced by Osho.
Hope you enjoy the meditation,
Hope you enjoy the technique.
A very warm welcome to all of you in this meditation session with me,
Dhyansi.
It's a pleasure to see how many of you are here today.
It's also a proof how important meditation has become in our lives.
Not many of you are here to achieve something spiritual,
Something of the higher order or things like that.
You're here,
I'm assuming,
For the very practical reasons of life,
That the life that we're living today is full of stress,
Is full of craziness and our mind is just pushed,
Abused and have almost gone crazy.
There is a saying that mind is a madhouse and we are trapped in it,
We don't know how to come out of it.
Meditation is that way to come out of this madhouse of what we call as mind.
In this session I see some of you are new today.
For those who are new,
Let me just say what we do here is every time in every session we try to find a different doorway to get out of this madhouse of the mind.
Today what we're going to do is a bit radical,
Is a bit crazy but fun,
A lot of fun.
It would require all of you to participate in it,
All of you to make and do something that you have never done in your life before.
So it will be a lot of fun.
Before we go into the technique,
How many of you here know that your mind is like a monkey?
How many of you have a monkey mind which has no control jumping from here and there?
Has somebody not a monkey mind?
That would be amazing.
Why is that such a beautiful thing as mind has become a madhouse,
Has become a monkey which is completely out of control,
Completely going crazy.
If you close your eyes and just sit down and try to observe your mind,
You'll be surprised how much content is going on,
Thoughts,
Emotions,
Feelings,
Planning,
Impressions from the past,
Thoughts about the future,
Worries,
Wishes,
Desires,
So many things.
And not just of what is happening today,
Not just what you experience during the day to day,
But from the very beginning of your life,
From the day you were born,
You've been collecting impressions and impressions and impressions all throughout your life.
And all of those impressions,
They keep on playing their role,
They are settled somewhere in the unconscious and the subconscious of your mind.
And during your day,
They also make you always disturbed.
You sometimes are,
I mean,
Even a funny example would be if you close your eyes,
Sometimes you must have noticed that you would start hearing a song that you heard maybe 10 years ago.
All this information,
All this data,
So much impression is stored in the mind and there is no way to come out of it.
With your body,
If you feel at any point that you are getting some more weight and you need to do something about it,
It's very visible,
You know how to do that,
You know you need to go do some workout,
Do some jogging,
Some kind of exercise,
Eat rightly,
Control the input that you take as food and your body will be healthy,
Will be more or less back in harmony.
But with the mind,
There is no way that we know how to get out of this mind,
How to empty the mind.
So much is stored,
So much we have ingested in the mind,
So much impressions now if you see the amount of impressions that we are consuming today is maybe 100 times more than the amount of impressions we were consuming 10 years ago,
15 years ago,
And our mind is not prepared for that,
Our mind is not ready for all these impressions and all that happens is you are in the middle of this mess and there is no way to come out of it.
In meditation there are techniques,
There are exercises,
There are ways that were developed by mystics to first of all empty this mind,
Empty this garbage of the mind so that you can sit in silence,
Sit in awareness,
Sit in a space,
A moment,
A time where you are just there,
You are just being without having to think about this,
Without having to carry all the impressions and just be in the present moment.
These techniques are sometimes less radical,
Sometimes more radical.
What we are going to experiment with today as I said earlier is a bit radical.
It was first introduced by Osho,
It's called gibberish.
Anyone tried gibberish meditation before?
Yeah,
I see,
You are coming after a very long time and the last time you were there we did gibberish so in these classes which are happening starting January,
We did once gibberish I think in July or something like that and now we introduce that again to all of you and the technique of gibberish is coming out of a mystic called Jabber.
He was a Sufi mystic,
He was known to be very very wise but he was a bit weird that he was always sitting in silence and when anybody came to him to ask about something because he was a wise man so people would think that he would know the answers,
People would go and start asking him questions and the only response he gave was complete nonsense.
He said things which absolutely did not make sense and that was very very disturbing but a certain shock to the person that all these questions,
All these things that are going on in the mind are all nonsense,
There is no point of trying to solve them,
It's best to get out of the mind,
It's best to empty the mind,
It's best to be in a space which is beyond the mind.
How are we going to do this technique?
There are two parts,
One 10 minutes of gibberish we are going to do and the rest we are going to sit in silence which is the experience of meditation,
The taste of meditation where there is inner peace,
Where there is silence,
Where there is actually no thought,
Actually no movement,
No movement whatsoever of thought,
Emotion,
Body,
Anything else.
But before that,
Gibberish,
What is gibberish?
Gibberish is,
Let me give you a demonstration,
Don't be shocked.
So what we are going to do is we are going to let ourselves out completely,
Our expression through the mouth,
Through the sounds in a language which does not exist.
So if I say something in a language which does not exist and let my expression completely out that would sound something like… Sounds funny right?
But what happened?
What happened is I let myself completely out.
In our mind we use language for the conscious part.
In human evolution when language was introduced it was one of the most sophisticated developments of human consciousness where we could express in language but now the expression that we want to convey is so much more that language can only carry a certain part and the rest goes all in suppression,
In our unconscious,
In our subconscious.
So many things we want to say but we cannot say because of culture,
Because of civilized way of living,
Because of all restrictions,
All the patterns of the mind that we have put on ourselves that there is no way,
There is no space where you could just puke your mind out,
Let everything out and just for once clean it up.
I am sure never in your life you let your mind completely go because you might think that what other people will think about it,
What will happen when I do that,
Maybe your truth comes out,
Maybe you will start saying things that you don't want other people to hear.
In this session take the opportunity to let everything out,
Everything out of your system which you have been carrying for 20,
30,
40,
50 years,
So much repression,
Thought repression,
Emotional repression,
So many things that are holding you back and need a catharsis and when you let all of that out what is left is the silence,
This awareness and a sense of lightness because the entire burden that you have been carrying in your mind is out.
So we are going to take this opportunity today to not be shy even if you would think that this is one of the craziest things and you would have never done this,
Take this moment to just let go and go into this experiment with full energy,
With full commitment to it.
Few do's and don'ts of this exercise which we are going to do before we sit in meditation,
Do's give full energy to it.
If you just try to speak,
If you try to be nice,
If you try to structure your thoughts and then speak,
That is something that is not going to help.
So what you should do is before you even start structuring,
Let it out,
Whatever your expression is let it out.
Don't use the language which you already know.
Use if it helps,
If you in the beginning feel shy,
Try to imagine a language that you don't speak,
Completely absurd,
Weird,
Funny language that you always thought even as a child that you could not have spoken.
Just create something to let your speech out,
Your sounds out of your mouth out and through that let all of your energy from the bottom of your abdomen area,
Let it out all throughout your chest,
Throughout your mind,
Put all the energy in and out,
Throw it out as much as you can to an extent that you completely feel exhausted in these 10 minutes.
Don't leave even a scent of impression that is there in your mind.
Let it all out,
Leave it in this room,
Throw it out,
Let police come because we'll make so much noise,
Probably something might happen.
Whatever happens,
Give these 10 minutes to your entire life to clean your system up.
This is once in a lifetime opportunity because we might not repeat this again,
You might not do this back at home.
So this is where you could do this,
Let it out.
Second,
Don't stop in the middle.
Don't stop and try to watch who is doing what,
Am I sounding like a stupid person,
Others are sounding like a stupid person.
Don't stop and watch,
Keep your eyes closed,
Don't worry about anybody else,
No matter how many people are in this room,
You are here alone for your practice,
Absolutely alone,
Focused on your own exercise,
On your own catharsis,
On your own letting out.
What else?
I already told you don't stop in the middle,
I mean it,
For 10 minutes please do not stop,
Just keep on doing it,
In the beginning it might be it is difficult for you to bring this expression out.
Give your try,
Everybody is capable of doing that,
It's nothing that is requiring any sort of special criteria.
So just take again,
I am saying the third time,
Take this opportunity to do it sincerely,
If there is anybody who feels that I don't want to do this,
I don't feel like doing it,
You will only feel more and more weird when others are doing it and you are just sitting there and listening.
I will do this along with you,
So we will all do this for 10 minutes,
Don't worry about how much sound we make,
Whom we are disturbing,
It's anyway a madhouse,
It does not matter if 10 minutes are also going mad.
After 10 minutes I will indicate,
I will tell you to stop,
And when I say stop,
Leave everything the way it is,
Don't need to do anything,
Don't need to think where am I,
What am I doing,
What does this mean,
Am I feeling the peace,
Am I not feeling the peace,
Just stay,
Keep your eyes closed and enjoy the silence that arises out of this cleansing,
Of this letting go of this suppressed depressions,
Emotions,
Thoughts,
All the contents of your mind.
Is everybody excited to do this?
Me as well,
I am super excited because we have a hall full of crazy people including me and let's see how much noise we can make.
If there are Italians in the house,
They can always use their hands as well including,
If you want to use your hands even if you are not Italian,
You could do that,
But let yourself out,
Facial expressions out,
Loosen everything,
Your lips,
Your hands,
Your entire head and don't hurt anybody,
But let it out.
I think we should go into it and enough of talking,
Now it's time for some nonsense.
Close your eyes and we'll all start in one go,
All together.
Take a breath in and.
.
.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
All together.
Don't bring in any thought.
Don't bring in any movement.
Stay where you are.
Silent and aware.
And empty as you are right now.
Let go in this silence.
Silence.
Don't touch any thought.
Stay in silence.
Keep your awareness on the silence.
Keep your awareness on the silence that is there inside of you.
Silence.
All the garbage is out.
Leave yourself empty.
Just the way you are right now.
For the next minutes.
Let the noises,
The madness around continue.
You stay in silence.
Centered in silence.
In emptiness.
With awareness.
Allow yourself to fall deeper in this silence.
Silence.
No movement needed.
No where to go.
Stay here.
No need for the mind.
Just silence and awareness.
Stay here.
Stay here.
No movement needed.
Remain settled in this silence and awareness.
No movement needed.
Silence.
Don't touch your mind.
No movement needed.
Silence.
Remain absolutely still and silent.
Silence.
Now bring your awareness to your body.
And feel the stillness of the body,
The sensations of the body.
Now you are sitting silently here.
Move your awareness to the mind and feel how calm it is.
Maintain this silence of the mind.
And take this moment to be thankful that you are alive.
To be thankful that you are healthy.
To be thankful that you can taste the silence and awareness.
And whatever you want to be thankful for,
Give yourself this moment.
And with that sense of thankfulness,
Silence,
Awareness,
Gently and very slowly you may open your eyes.
Silence.
Silence.
Silence.
In this moment of silence,
If there are any doubts,
Questions,
Anything to share,
We together shared our madness.
We shared our silence.
We could also share our experience,
If you like.
If not,
It is also fine.
Anyone?
Yes.
I can maybe just share something very similar to what you said about your body suffering.
Because my posture,
For example,
Now I feel like.
.
.
Yes.
Is it because of the mind,
All the repressions,
All the suppressions during the day that you have to live through,
Or some other general pain that you have in your body?
That was my question.
Is it because you feel that you feel constrained during the day that you are doing all what you are doing,
And that results in the pain of the body?
Yes.
I feel well.
Constrained?
Yes.
I can very well relate to that,
Because in my family,
One of the family members went through something similar where there was a lot of stress at work,
And stress to that level,
That based on this repression and suppression of that stress,
That started becoming physical pain.
And that family member had to suffer through pain for months.
She was taking painkillers and all kinds of medical treatments here.
Nothing helped,
Because the cause was not in the body.
It was because there was so much mental,
Emotional depression,
Suppression that had expressed out as physical pain.
And the only way out was to cut everything off here,
Go back to India,
And over there spend time with the family,
Let everything out,
Lots of catharsis,
And that immediately made everything alright,
Even on the level of the body.
So I just wanted to share that it's very very important that we let our minds out,
That we do not repress,
Suppress ourselves to that extent,
That it becomes something physical,
Something which is at some point becomes irreversible.
So one of the ways which we did was a bit too crazy,
But if you integrate meditation in your life,
Where just for a few minutes,
If you sit down every day and bring back yourself to the center,
To the silence,
To awareness,
It's more likely that you would not come to a point where repression starts reaching to the body and expresses out physically.
Anybody else?
Did you guys enjoy it?
I was getting there.
That's good.
I hope you get the chance to express that kind of madness outside this room as well.
Anything else?
At the beginning I was like,
Oh my goodness,
Seriously?
Immediately it felt like natural,
All together like,
And it was so easy.
But at the beginning I was like,
No,
I don't think so.
Yeah,
That's why I don't announce it before,
Otherwise it will not come.
So once you're here,
You're trapped.
Anybody found it very difficult to do this?
Yes?
Not necessarily difficult,
But I actually felt guilty silently because the first time my mind had been so empty.
I wasn't thinking about everything else or forcing to bring my illness back to my place.
That would have been my next question,
Did you like it?
Imagine that access to that emptiness where it's just peaceful every day without having to.
.
.
It's possible.
It's possible in the very common average lifestyle that we have,
That you get up,
Go to work,
Come back,
Do some other things and then sleep and then repeat the cycle or the weekends,
Go out.
In this very normal structure of life it's possible to have this taste.
My intention of creating this group and doing these sessions is exactly that,
To somehow get you that taste.
Because once you get that taste,
You will find your way to it,
You will want it more and more because this is very precious,
Especially when everything is designed to take you away from yourself,
To take your awareness completely away from yourself.
Anything else?
Anybody felt very difficult to control themselves when they were letting go,
Like feeling that you have lost control?
Okay,
Then next time try to lose control.
Next time when you do that,
If you get the opportunity to do that,
If you would write back to me that this is something that you enjoyed and you would like to have it once again,
Maybe in a couple of months we'll come back to this technique,
Meanwhile we'll try other doorways for those who maybe did not like the session.
So those who liked it,
Just one advice if you ever want to do this at home,
Elsewhere,
Let it all out.
Because even in this process you still put lots of levels of control,
You don't want to lose yourself,
You don't want to let it all go.
But the magic only happens when you let it all go,
When you completely engage all your energies coming from your navel to your lungs to your mind,
All your energies out,
When you engage all of it and throw it all out,
You are in a space which is undescribable,
Which is worth doing all this nonsense and effort.
Any last questions?
If not,
Then I am very very thankful to you that you all participated in this madness,
In this silence with full openness and next time when we meet we'll try something less radical,
Something more introspective and see you next Monday.
Thank you very much,
Have a nice lovely evening.
Namaste.

Wow, that was a ride. 🎢 While practicing the technique, there were moments where I couldn’t help but giggle because it was maddening to say the least. But after that was out of the way, I did end up crying a bit during it. And during the silent portion of the meditation, tears continued to roll down my face. Not sure why, but next time I do this practice I’m going to push myself further and let it all out. Thank you for this peaceful and ingenious meditation. 🙏🙏🙏

That was such an interesting approach to meditation and really effective. I turned the volume down low so that I wasn’t disturbed by the noise, which meant that I kept the meditation going throughout the Q&A at the end. It was such a do meditation that I think I could have stayed there all morning! This might be one that I practise by myself once a month at least.

Thought this was great. The one thing that didnt work for me is when you were sitting in silence and telling people repeatedly not to move and be silent an not think ........ Ever hear of the "White Bear" concept in psychology? .....If you tell anyone Not to think of a White Bear it only makes them think of a White Bear more. :) Great catharsis! Thank you.

In these strange times Gibberish brings me peace of mind. I just need to do it at the start of my day, for at least seven consecutive days. Almost every day I feel resistance to start, but freedom awaits me afterwards. When I stop for a few days, I just feel the need to start again. 🙏🏻
