A short practice that helps you deal with difficult conflict situations: imagine that someone you look up to, a being of light (Buddha, Dalai Lama, Mother Theresa, ... ) was in the room with you: What if they took over your body for a few minutes to handle a difficult conversation for you? What if they gave you a gift, whatever you wanted, and a warm embrace? Feel the soothing quality of this practice. (This talk and meditation was recorded live during the Walking in Snow retreat in the Austrian Alps.)

So make sure you're happy with your posture,

Finding a sense of ease and steadiness at the same time.

I'd like to introduce another part that uses memory and imagination.

So both these skills,

Sometimes it's hard to really recall vividly a situation or it's hard to really imagine something.

Sometimes a little bit unpredictable and hard to imagine.

And so we may get the feeling that we're not doing it well,

That it's not vivid enough,

Not clear enough our image.

But whatever result we have,

Even if we're a little bit in the story only,

It still already works.

So just not to drop in the middle.

So let's take a few breaths consciously.

And now using memory,

We will bring to mind,

We will remember.

A situation in our life where we were in conflict with someone.

A painful,

Difficult situation where there was a big conflict.

Maybe a time where we were in time of separation,

Splitting with our partner,

Maybe with our boss or a neighbor,

A friend.

Whatever but just seeing the moment where we are with the person and there must be like argumenting or cries or whatever,

Something really touching and deep happening.

And maybe where you're behaving was not what you wish it would be.

Maybe saying things you would not wish to say,

Maybe acting in a way you don't find interesting or wise.

So try to use memory and to really remember the situation.

Try to relieve it like if you were there.

And now remember the peak moment,

The moment where really,

Really it's all going wrong.

And now imagine if you are in a house,

Then imagine that you hear the bell ringing or if you are outside,

You see someone coming in the distance and you say to the person,

Excuse me,

Just a minute,

I'm coming back.

And you go to the door or you go to meet that person that is coming in the distance.

And that person,

When you open the door or when you meet the person,

It's a person,

It could be someone,

It's a person of light,

Let's say,

Like you can choose whether it's Buddha,

Jesus,

Mother Mary,

Gandhi.

Any deep being where you feel full trust in his wisdom.

So choose someone you really,

Really trust for his wisdom,

Can be the Dalai Lama,

Whoever you feel like.

And that person,

That being of light,

Tells you,

Hello,

Seems to be difficult situation,

Can I show you how I would handle it?

Let me take your body for a few minutes and let's go back together in the room or let's go back together with the person.

Nobody will see you,

You're just behind me and watch the way I'm dealing with this situation.

And so you agree and you become invisible.

And whether Buddha,

Mother Mary,

Gandhi,

Dalai Lama,

The person you choose,

Take your body and walk back to the person at the peak moment.

And you're there,

Invisible,

And now you see how the Buddha or the being of light is dealing in this situation.

What does he say?

What does he not say?

What's his attitude?

What is his life?

And now that being of light,

Just say again to the person,

Excuse me a minute,

And go outside of the room or go away from the person and you just follow.

And the being of light just say,

Okay,

Take back your body now.

And you're again in your body,

Having the Buddha in front of you or the being of light you choose.

And that figure says,

Here is a gift for you.

You can choose whatever you want as a gift and I'll present it to you.

He's placing something in your heart.

It's a gift of your choice.

Whatever you would feel like receiving from such a being is now offered to you.

You feel it entering your heart.

And that being of light,

Then before leaving just takes you in his harm,

A moment you will never forget.

Now you're exchanging salutation and he's leaving.

Now let all this situation vanish and just breathe in the heart as if you were breathing from the heart.

Feel your heart.

Feel it on the in-breath and feel it on the out-breath.
