Meditation on Grief and Letting Go Let us begin this meditation by taking a comfortable seat.

You can sit on a chair with your feet on the floor or as you choose you can sit cross-legged on the floor.

Just to ground yourself in this moment.

And breathe in nice and deep.

Nice deep inhale and a slow,

Gentle,

Easy exhale.

Breathe in again nice and deep.

A deep,

Deep,

Deep,

Deep,

Deep inhale and a slow,

Gentle,

Easy,

Happy,

Complete exhale.

Just coming to rest in this present moment.

And bring to mind what is to you in this moment a personal loss.

Passing of somebody very close.

I want you to breathe in nice and deep.

Just breathe in life into yourself in this moment.

And as we begin this meditation I want you to become aware of your immediate body and the sensations in your body.

How do you feel right now?

Sad?

Maybe heavy hearted?

Spacey?

Tight?

Maybe even hollow?

What do you notice about your body right now?

Don't read into it,

Just notice.

What is my body saying to me right now?

Now bring yourself to your heart.

And I want you to hold your hand to your heart right now.

Just holding your heart in this moment.

And feeling that grief because your heart holds that grief right now.

Raw and tender and loving and full.

Just rest with that.

Hold your hand to your heart knowing and feeling that grief for yourself right now.

Connect with that grief in this moment.

And from there I want you to take your hand to your throat.

For many a time grief may sit within our throat.

Your body is holding that grief right now.

Processing it without words,

Without direction.

Your body knows that grief.

Watch your emotions as they rise Don't be embarrassed or afraid,

Just watch.

Watch whatever you be feeling in this moment.

Let your emotions manifest.

Allow them to come to the surface.

Know of your soul in this moment.

Know of your soul beyond time and space.

Just feel that grief.

And if at any moment you be overwhelmed,

Take a break.

Take a break.

Rest.

Breathe.

Resettle.

And return.

Let yourself to grieve in this moment.

Just knowing that it is there and it will heal.

Stop fighting the inevitability of loss.

And let it rest easy within you right now.

That soul that has departed lives on in so many ways through you in every day.

The way you may make your bed or the way you smile or the way you cook a meal or close a door.

Know right now that those connections are beyond time and beyond space.

Know that your soul is connected to that soul that has departed.

And so today,

Let's liberate that love of our souls and take it to a space that is beyond time and beyond space.

Let us liberate that love,

Liberate that joy.

And in order to help us to do that,

I invite you to reflect on the lines that I shall be saying right now.

Lines from different poems that give us an understanding of grief and take us beyond.

Though I need to weep and mourn your loss,

I know you dwell in that safe space of my heart where no storm,

No night,

No pain can reach you no more.

We no longer look toward each other from the old familiar distance of our names.

For now,

You dwell inside the rhythm of my every breath as close to me as I am to my soul.

Let me not look for you by walking down the lanes of my memory for there I would grow lonely without you.

I know you would rather want me to find you in the presence,

The presence of my life,

Of my thoughts,

Of my words,

Of my feelings,

Of my actions.

I learn to move forward to each day in the memory of that presence.

To know that you are there in my smile,

Present in my smallest action.

Present in the quiet silence of this moment.

You are there.

Your body may be away from me,

But there is a window open from my heart to your heart where messages of love are passed and always will.
