Today we will focus on our sense of awe.

Go ahead and grab a notebook and pen.

Get settled where you feel comfortable.

This session is inspired by the Five Minutes to a Mindful You self-reflection journal.

It is a great tool for creating mindful moments in your day.

Let's get started.

Take a few deep breaths.

Inhale all the way into your abdomen.

Exhale pushing all of the air out through your mouth.

This could feel like a sigh releasing tension as you breathe.

I like to share a quote that resonates with the JAM session topic.

So today's is,

Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful,

We must carry it with us or we find it not.

Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Go ahead and take a few more deep breaths.

The experience of awe is the sense when a piece of art or music or a view in nature stops you in your tracks and moves you.

I know that you have had a moment that left you speechless.

According to researchers,

This sense is very good for your mental health.

In traditional Japanese aesthetics,

The concept of Yugen means a profound,

Mysterious sense of the beauty of the universe.

And there really are moments that take our breath away.

Go ahead and close your eyes or soften your gaze in front of you.

Take another deep breath in and hold it for four counts.

Then exhale for the same number of counts.

Do this for a few moments until you find a rhythm that's comfortable for you.

Let's affirm this for ourselves.

You can say this out loud and you can write it down in your journal.

I have awareness so I can experience this sense of awe.

Let's repeat that.

I have awareness so I can experience this sense of awe.

More simply put,

You could say,

I am in awe.

Now you can let go of the awareness of your breath and shift your thoughts to when you experienced a sense of awe.

Try to envision it just as it was.

What do you remember most?

How did you feel?

Take a few more deep breaths and open your eyes.

Grab your notepad and pen so you can write down everything you recalled about that experience.

I invite you to take this sense of awe with you as you continue your day.

You can pause this recording and continue to write as long as you wish or you can come back and add more later.

When you are ready to set this aside,

Take a few more deep breaths and return to whatever awaits you today with intention and presence.

Namaste.
