Hi,
This is Guy,
And welcome back.
In the second of our five prayers for self-transformation,
We're going to look at something that the moment you hear the name of the prayer,
You'll recognize as being something that we all need to not just do,
But gain a new understanding and insight into why we do it.
The second prayer is called,
Stop Rushing to Get Nowhere Fast.
Now why is this new action a prayer?
Well all of us know what it feels like to be carried off by an anxious state or whatever it may be so that when that anxiety comes along and takes over our life as it does,
If we can slow down a little bit,
We can become consciously awake,
Aware of the part of us that we have always taken to be ourselves.
This means,
As best we can explain it at this point in our talk together,
That we discover that the anxious state isn't there to help us.
It's not there to protect us or otherwise bring us to some point where we won't feel that kind of fear.
But rather,
Because we have deliberately slowed down,
It's almost like we have stepped out of that river of thoughts and feelings and into a place where we can see them rushing by us.
And the reason that's a prayer,
The ability to witness that,
Is because for the first time because of this prayer in action,
We actually begin to see that those anxious thoughts and feelings are not who we are.
By deliberately slowing ourselves down,
When everything in us seems to be screaming,
Rush,
Get it done,
Go,
Go,
Go,
We become inwardly awake.
We become conscious of ourselves in a completely different way so that,
As I said just a moment ago,
We understand that these anxiety attacks have nothing to do with what didn't get done or with what might happen,
But rather,
Their pain,
That place in us from out of which they come,
Are all associated with a kind of belief-packed self,
An order of ourselves that has already decided well before the moment comes along what we need to do to remain feeling like we are who we are.
Now put it all together,
Who wants to be someone who is always rushing and anxious,
Not to mention what we do to others when we're in that kind of state?
Those thoughts and feelings tell us that if we don't rush,
If we're not anxious,
Protect ourselves in some way,
We're going to end up losing something incredibly valuable.
But with these new ideas,
This new prayer in action,
We can begin to see how ludicrous that is because if we start rushing and we're anxious,
We've already lost the possibility that moment has brought to us to realize a completely different order of person within ourselves.
This new kind of prayer in action changes our perception of ourselves,
And it does so by turning our attention around to look at the real problem and in the awareness of the real problem,
Which is that level of consciousness that is always running around to try to make itself feel real.
In that moment,
We come upon the understanding at last that if we turn our attention around,
It's the same as looking at the moment through a new order of consciousness that cannot be made,
Driven,
Pushed through any situation to make itself feel whole because it already is.
This simple but powerful prayer will help us,
All of us,
Make the transition to a new understanding of ourselves,
And that's why it's transformational because it gives us a way to be free in the moment of that awareness instead of trying to fix the world around us to find a freedom to come.
These prayers in action,
This new understanding shows us that we are already in the world to come if we can be conscious of ourselves as we see the world unfolding around us.
