Mindfulness practices designed to enrich your life.

This is the Being Present practice with David Mercado.

Day 3.

Being helpless,

Being helpful.

How is your environment?

I hope you were able to make changes and to recognise the good things around you.

Feeling helpless is becoming a constant emotion that we all have felt at one moment or another during this time.

We cannot see the enemy,

We could hide from it,

But there is no guarantee it will not infect us at any given time,

Now or in the future.

Our lives as we know them have changed,

And this is unsettling and uncomfortable.

We hear the news and professional advice,

But still,

We are unsure if what we are doing is the right thing or not.

It is right if you do not feel ok,

However falling into deep despair,

Anxiety and panic is not a solution.

If you are spending hours listening to the news and all the bad things happening,

It might not be the best investment of your time.

There are so many people in need of support,

You could use this unique time as an opportunity to express your kindness and compassion towards others.

People living on their own might be having a difficult time trying to rebuild their social interactions.

Why not give them a call and ask if they are ok?

Rubbish collectors,

The postman,

Postwoman are still working out there doing their duties.

You could help them so their job is easier by making sure all rubbish and house access are clear for them to do their job for example.

You can always go close to them and say thank you.

Families with a lot of children might be having a difficult time as they might live in smaller spaces and might not be able to go out.

You could support them by calling and asking if they need anything.

Some parents just need an excuse to speak on the phone to have a quiet time.

Health workers and their families are at risk every minute and have to put more hours in their day.

If you know local health workers you might be able to help them to run errands for example.

The same counts for the elderly who would be very grateful to have your help.

Being helpful to others will help you not only to make you feel lighter and better but at the same time you are improving your community.

So get out there,

Talk to people and be grateful that you can help others in need.

You are contributing to everyone's wellbeing.

Practice number 3,

Being helpful.

Number 1,

Make a list of 5 things you are grateful for.

Number 2,

Look at your list and re-read each item again and after each item say thank you,

Thank you,

Thank you with as much intention and emotion as possible.

For example,

I am grateful for my neighbours.

Thank you,

Thank you,

Thank you.

Number 3,

Write a new list of 5 things you can help people with in your community.

Number 4,

Act on your actions and write down how you feel after each support you give.

Be well,

Be safe and be grateful.
