Hello,
This is davidji and welcome to today's meditation.
Today we're going to explore the answers to the question.
Now we often associate the answers to those questions with all the labels and definitions we've given to ourselves.
You can ask yourself right now that question five times and you'll receive five different answers.
We are so multidimensional and regardless of your philosophy or your religion or how you even feel about this existence of ours,
We are multidimensional.
The ancient teachings of Adi Shankara,
The greatest proponent of the philosophy known as Advaita,
Non-dualism,
Essentially oneness,
Says that we are all the same being wearing different disguises,
That we are our bodies,
We are our minds,
We are our souls.
Different aspects of us being the exact same thing,
Wearing different disguises.
At our roots,
At our core,
We are pure,
Unbounded consciousness with all these layers of life,
All these flowings of our physical body,
Our emotional body,
Our subtle body,
Our energetic body,
Our soul,
And of course,
Spirit,
And there's a thread that connects them all together.
But at our core,
We are indeed that spirit.
In ancient Sanskrit,
That's known as Brahman,
Brahman.
And so,
When we ask the question,
Who am I?
That's really a way for us to take a look at our lives and are you indeed living the life you want?
Are you living the life you love?
Essentially,
Who am I?
How do the choices that you make impact your self-definition?
Have you defined yourself as someone who roots for a particular team or cause?
Have you defined yourself as someone who lives a certain lifestyle?
Who am I?
What are all the choices you've made to include in your life that help define you?
The things you've chosen to put your attention on,
All these things define you.
How you prioritize life defines you.
And look at all the aspects of your life right now that are really important to you and you find yourself leaning into them,
That you don't even care what other people think.
It's all to help you speak your truth.
Think of all the ways you define yourself from the foods you like,
The music you enjoy,
The god or goddess you pray to,
Politicians you vote for,
The causes you give money to or march for.
Think of all the ways you define yourself.
Let's do it right now.
Let's close our eyes and take a long,
Slow,
Deep breath in and just take a look at all your labels.
Labels you tag on yourself.
Labels that your mind tags onto people,
Things,
Foods,
Events,
Actions,
Stress codes,
Behaviors,
Belief systems,
Imperative labels,
How you compare your labels with those of others.
And just take a deep breath into all those labels and gently release them,
Let them go.
See how much those labels filled you and consumed you,
But there's a space in your mind that allows you to drop the need to constantly label,
Tag or judge just for this moment.
Just be,
Be here,
Present in this space where there are no labels,
Where there are no attachments,
Where there are no aversions.
There's only the sacred,
Precious present moment.
There's you,
Your heartbeat and your breath,
All supporting your true unbounded consciousness.
Just allow your heart to beat.
Allow thoughts to come into your awareness and just let them go.
You be unconcerned,
Treat them like clouds coming and going.
You're just the silent witness here.
Allow your breath to flow in and allow it to flow back out.
Are you breathing in the universe right now or is the universe breathing you?
Probably a little bit of both,
But beneath it all,
You are pure,
Unbounded,
Pure consciousness,
Sealed in this flesh casing for the span of a lifetime.
Simply allow this moment,
Accept this moment,
Receive this moment.
It's pure.
It's whole.
It's perfect.
And in this moment,
You are pure and whole and perfect.
Just breathe with me right here,
Right now.
And if you drift away to thoughts or sounds or physical sensations,
That's okay.
Soon as you realize you're no longer breathing with me,
Ever so gently drift back to your breath and together we'll just witness it.
We'll just watch our breath.
We'll just observe our breath.
First take a long,
Slow,
Deep breath in and ever so gently let that go.
Allow your eyelids to ever so gently float closed.
Keep watching your breath.
Keep witnessing your breath.
I'll watch the time.
And when you hear me ring the chime,
Just sit gently with your eyes closed.
So let's begin.
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
Now take a long,
Slow,
Deep breath in and ever so gently let that go.
Let's do that one more time.
Long,
Slow,
Deep breath in and gently release it.
And now let's seal the answers to the question we asked,
Who am I?
Let's seal this meditation.
Let's celebrate the power of this collective that binds me and you together because we are one,
Pure,
Unbounded consciousness.
Let's chant Aum just one time to herald our oneness,
Our universality.
Take a long,
Slow,
Deep breath in.
And when it feels comfortable,
You can slowly open your eyes.
Welcome back.
I hope this meditation was comfortable for you.
Perhaps you understand yourself a little bit better right now.
Perhaps you understand your ego,
Your sense of self,
That we don't try to destroy it or kill it.
It's our sense of self,
But always to better understand it and evolve it.
And we start that by simply witnessing,
Acknowledging,
Allowing them to flow in our minds,
Or even writing down on pieces of paper,
All the labels,
All the identifications that we constantly give to ourselves,
Our life,
And those around us.
Just know that you can transcend the labels and connect to who you truly are when you're present in the space where there are no labels.
In the here and now,
As you move throughout the day,
Use this as a mantra that flows through your mind.
Whenever you find yourself stuck,
Feeling less than,
Feeling attached,
In the middle of labeling,
Simply use the mantra,
I am,
I am,
I am,
Because indeed you are pure,
Unbounded consciousness.
Have a beautiful day.
Keep meditating,
And I'll see you in the gap.
