Grievance Or Miracle?
by davidji
There is something to have gratitude for in every moment, but we often take the little things in life for granted. We get distracted by the little irritations in life, and it holds us back from truly embracing everything the universe has to offer. In this profound meditation, you will change your perspective and develop a deep sense of self compassion, insight and intution. The beautiful mantra in this practice is by Aham Brahmasmi.

Hello,
This is David G and welcome to today's meditation.
So let's find a comfortable space to sit or lie down.
Let's look around at our surroundings.
Together let's take a long,
Slow,
Deep breath in.
And gently let that go.
Let's allow our eyelids to float closed and take another long,
Slow,
Deep breath in and witness it as we breathe.
And watch it as you exhale.
And ever so gently observe your breath as it flows in and out of you.
The ancient sages teach us that in each moment we have a choice between a grievance and a miracle.
When we look at life in its biggest picture,
Truly seeing our entire existence through the five realms,
The physical realm,
The emotional realm,
The material realm,
The relationship realm,
And the spiritual realm,
It becomes so obvious to us all the little billions of aspects of our life for which we could have gratitude for in every moment.
But we are often drawn to an irritation,
A heartache,
A pain,
Or some other type of suffering which then disconnects us from the true understanding of the fabric of our existence.
We spend our time paying attention to a thread instead of looking at the magnificent tapestry.
True suffering is when we confuse and misinterpret the magnificence of this existence of ours for the stinging pain of a given moment.
And true sadness is the fear that there will never be enough time to heal that wound,
To feel love again,
But that's all an illusion.
If we see our lives in their most expansive way,
Then finding ourselves in a state of misery is okay,
But it needs to always be placed in perspective.
It's almost as if we should use a timer every time we go into misery mode,
Or sadness mode,
Or suffering mode.
How long do I want to stay in that space before I reach out and see all the miracles around us?
And it's so often from that space which is now a reality in our life that the miracles actually flow.
Knowing the magnificence in the pain,
Seeing the opportunities in the closed door,
Seeing the chance for healing in a wounded heart,
Knowing that in each moment we can own the pain,
Own the misery,
Own the suffering and sadness,
And then step out of it.
So right now let's walk ourselves through the five realms of existence as we look at our life.
We'll use the lens of the five realms and the filter of grievance or miracle.
So in your life right now,
What grievance do you have in the physical realm?
Something about your physiology,
Your body,
Your diet,
Your physical behaviors or exercise,
Your sleep.
What's your grievance?
And now ask,
What's the miracle in that grievance?
Next let's drift our awareness to our emotional realm,
How we respond to the world,
Our conditioned and knee-jerk responses and identify grievance.
And now ask yourself,
What's the miracle in that?
And now drift your awareness to the material realm,
Money,
Abundance,
Wealth consciousness,
Positions,
Possessions and identify grievance.
And now ask yourself,
What's the miracle in that?
And now drift yourself to the relationship realm,
All the relationships you have in your life including the one with yourself and ask,
What's a grievance I have right now in one of these relationships?
And now ask yourself,
What's the miracle in that?
And now let's drift our awareness to the spiritual realm,
The realm beyond us,
The realm of source,
The realm of deep connection to the divine,
The realm of your practice,
Your dharma,
Where your heart leads you in life,
Your understanding of something bigger than yourself and ask,
What's the grievance I have right now in the spiritual realm?
And now let's ask,
What's the miracle in that?
And now together let's take a long slow deep breath in and let that go.
And let's ask,
Right now in this moment,
What am I grateful for?
Who am I grateful for?
What blessing have I been taking for granted?
And what miracle right now can I celebrate?
And again let's take a long slow deep breath in and gently let that go.
Our suffering rarely has anything to do with the big picture,
With the entire universe.
Our suffering only occurs when we distill everything in the universe down to a pinpoint of pain.
So we'll take this process deeper by using the mantra,
Aham Brahmasmi,
I am the universe.
Aham Brahmasmi.
We'll silently repeat Aham Brahmasmi for the next few minutes.
And you will drift away to thoughts and sounds and physical sensations.
And as soon as you realize you've drifted away ever so gently,
Drift back to Aham Brahmasmi.
If you find yourself focused on a mood or a feeling where you have some expectation about this process,
Treat that as you would any other thought and gently drift back to the mantra.
I'll watch the time and when you hear me ring the chime,
Just sit gently with your eyes closed.
So let's begin.
Aham Brahmasmi,
I am the universe.
Sit gently with your eyes closed and let the stillness and silence settle in.
And now let's take a long,
Slow,
Deep breath in and gently let that go.
Let's do that one more time.
Take a long,
Slow,
Deep breath in and gently release that.
And let's seal this meditation.
Let's seal our miracles and our wholeness and our connection to the universe as one by chanting the hymn of the universe,
Aum,
Just one time together.
Take a long,
Slow,
Deep breath in.
Aum.
And when it feels comfortable,
You can slowly open your eyes.
You can look around at those who you share this collective consciousness with and throughout the day,
Throughout this week,
Throughout your life.
As soon as you stub your toe,
Bang your elbow,
Feel that sadness in your heart,
Ask yourself.
Every moment is a choice between a grievance and a miracle.
Do I choose?
Keep leaning in the direction of your dreams and I'll see you in the gap.
Namaste.

So peaceful. I just wish when you βwatch the timeβ and leave us to meditate aloneβ¦that the background music continued. I find your musical choices perfectly suited to focused breathing, while the silence is quickly distracting. Perhaps itβs just me. You are my first choice in meditation. Thank you for sharing your heart.

I have been using insight timer for five years. I have my favourite teachers, and you David are one of them. I connect with you voice. I connect with your words. Today scrolled through your meditations, and I believe the universe helped me find this meditation. Perfect timing. Exactly what I needed to hear to remind me I have choices in life. I asked for help this morning. This afternoon help revealed itself in your words. Thank you for continuing to make a positive difference in my life, my outlook and my self awareness. Thank you ππ»

I love the idea of remembering we always have a choice to see/feel a circumstance as a grievance or a miracle. I also love the idea of making space for the grievance but not residing in it. There are miracles to be found in every moment. Thank you Davidji for sharing your wisdom. π

I have been experiencing challenging times with my work. This helps put things into perspective of how, not only can I accept, but also make a change. Grievance into miracle. I will revisit this one. Much gratitude.
