Attention & Intention Meditation
by davidji
What you place your attention on will manifest, and what you take your attention away from will cease. Attention activates, and intention transforms.
Transcript
Hello,
This is davidji and welcome to today's meditation.
Attention and intention.
Two qualities of pure,
Unbounded consciousness.
And yet,
These are also two qualities,
Powerful qualities of manifestation.
So often confused as the same thing,
But they're completely different processes.
Where attention goes,
Energy flows.
What you place your attention on blossoms and blooms,
And what you drift your attention away from withers and diminishes and dies.
You know what you had for dinner last night,
And maybe the night before,
But how about three weeks ago?
How about that conversation you had with a close friend of yours three days ago?
You know what book you're reading right now.
Of course,
It's secrets of meditation.
But what was the last book you read before that?
And the book before that?
How about the last movie you saw?
The last time you took care of yourself?
The last time you felt love surge into you?
Well,
If we can activate those aspects of our existence with greater frequency,
Then we won't just drift into the past.
They'll be part of the present,
The here and now.
If we can truly learn that what we place our attention on elevates and where we drift it from diminishes,
Then we would never grieve.
We would never waste energy.
We would never knowingly prolong pain.
In the words of Henry David Thoreau,
We loiter in winter while it is already spring.
And what a perfect metaphor for activating our ability of present moment,
Attention.
If one foot is mired in the quicksand of the past,
Tired excuses,
Stale philosophies,
Constricted ways of living and moving forward,
How in the world can our next step be the strong one that pulls us out of that quicksand and launches us in the direction of our dreams?
It all comes down to attention.
Where's your attention?
Wherever it is,
You're giving consciously or unconsciously power to that thing.
And if your intention is clouded by the swirl of life,
Then you're not allowing your natural ability of intention to unfold.
Intention is a transformational property.
Attention activates,
Intention transforms.
It's the seed which already holds within it the fulfillment of your dream.
Unlike any seed,
The seed of a blade of grass,
A tomato plant,
An avocado tree,
The acorn that has just dropped from the oak tree.
That little acorn contains the entire oak tree in its one little inch of intention.
A fully grown human body was resting,
Sleeping inside our mother's egg,
Waiting for the moment of fertilization.
And that's where the expression comes from,
When we were just a gleam in our mother's eye or your father's eye.
You were there even as a sweet intention,
But here you are now.
It's been a couple of days.
Look how that intention has unfolded,
Has manifested,
How that seed,
That teeny microscopic seed has grown into the you that exists right now.
Our dreams are also dormant,
Waiting to be fertilized,
And that fertilization mechanism is intention.
And when you're able to merge attention with intention,
We create the next unfolding of the moment.
So you have to merge those two capabilities,
These two processes,
These two aspects of your being,
Attention and intention.
Now we've already talked about how there must be a fertile garden for the seed to grow.
But today in our meditation,
Let's get clear on our intentions.
Because once clarity is flowing through us,
As Patanjali wrote,
The power of attention will activate it and bring you to samadhi,
Oneness.
So let's get comfortable.
Let's find a place for us to meditate.
And let's close our eyes and take a long,
Slow,
Deep breath in right now.
Feel it come into your throat,
The top of your lungs,
The middle of your lungs,
Down into your belly.
Feel it fill and expand.
Witness it.
And then exhale.
And feel that breath move up your chest,
Into your throat,
Into your nasal passages,
Out of your nose,
The edges of your nostrils.
Feel how present you are right now.
Feel this sweet moment right now.
And just keep following your breath in and out.
And ask yourself this question,
What do I want?
What do I want?
Remember when I let go of who I am,
I become who I might be,
Unfettered,
Unconstricted.
Place your hand on your heart.
And as you breathe in,
Feel your chest rise up to meet your hand.
And as you breathe out,
Allow your hand to just rest so gently on that sweet heart of yours.
And now let's ask,
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
And sometimes answers will flow.
Sometimes there'll be no answers.
Sometimes the universe will deliver you an answer.
But now is the perfect time to start your dialogue with the universe.
Now is the perfect time for you to really ask that question.
And don't respond through your head or your intellect or through your conditioned self.
Truly ask,
If I could be anything,
If I could have anything,
If I could do anything,
What would that be?
Who can I be right now that I'm not?
What can I do right now that I'm not?
What makes you happy when no one is looking?
What do you say or not say because those around you have another viewpoint?
Right now in this sacred precious moment.
Let's ask the most profound question.
Who would we be?
What would we do?
What would we have?
If it could be anything.
And now let's take it deeper.
Let's use the mantra,
Sankalpa.
Sankalpa.
Sankalpa.
And repeat it over and over,
Silently,
To yourself.
And when you notice you've drifted away,
The thoughts in your mind or sounds in the environment or sensations in your physical body,
Ever so gently,
Drift back to Sankalpa.
I'll watch the time,
And when you hear me ring the chime,
Just sit gently with your eyes closed.
I'll watch the time,
And when you hear me ring the chime,
Just sit gently with your eyes closed.
I'll watch the time,
And when you hear me ring the chime,
Just sit gently with your eyes closed.
I'll watch the time,
And when you hear me ring the chime,
Just sit gently with your eyes closed.
I'll watch the time,
And when you hear me ring the chime,
Just sit gently with your eyes closed.
I'll watch the time,
And when you hear me ring the chime,
Just sit gently with your eyes you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you sun kalpa sun kalpa sun kalpa sun kalpa sit gently with your eyes closed and let the stillness and silence settle in and now let's take a long slow deep breath in together and gently let that go let's do that one more time and gently release it and let's celebrate our own attention and intention for our blooming and blossoming by chanting the hymn of the universe,
Aum,
One time together take a long slow deep breath in Aum Aum and when it feels comfortable you can slowly open your eyes look around at all your fellow meditators around the globe and know that in this moment infinite possibilities pure potentiality there's nothing you can't do be or have as long as you use the power of attention and intention from the sweet spot of the universe this is davidji wishing you an amazing day and I'll see you in the gap namaste

It is hard to see the who I am and to let that go to become the who I want to be. I am not sure to be where I want to be but I am also curious about what flows to me. Beautiful meditation thatβs making me think. I will do it tomorrow too because this needs to be redone! Namaste π
