Good morning and welcome to the artist morning.
My name is Darius and I am so grateful that you and I get this time together.
This meditation is going to be a little different at the time of making this meditation.
It just happened to be July the first.
And in the country that I call home in Canada,
July the first is our official holiday,
A day intended to celebrate our country.
And of course you might be listening to this on a different day in a different country.
But the theme I wanted to explore today together is the theme of gratitude,
Respect and honor for the land,
Whatever the land is that you happen to find yourself in and the indigenous people that have taken care of this land,
That have been on this land.
I want to spend a little bit of time,
If you are open to it,
To reflect on both the land and the indigenous people of the land that we happen to find ourselves in and to maybe share some gratitude for them.
Now of course there's a chance the land you happen to find yourself on in this moment is your indigenous land.
And if that's true,
Then I'd like to invite you to connect with your own ancestors.
Let's begin our meditation.
With your eyes are still open,
Let's close them and go inwards together.
Take a moment here to connect with our breath.
Slowly beginning to take deeper and deeper breaths.
Taking the breath to bring you closer to your heart.
Getting into your heart now.
Taking a moment to check in with your heart.
How is your heart this morning?
How is your heart?
Let's take a deep breath here together.
Breathing in and letting it all go.
I want to bring your attention to your feet.
Bringing your attention to the sensation of your feet against the floor.
The ground.
Earth.
Wherever you are,
You are on a sacred soil.
Thousands of generations before you have walked on this land.
It's wonderful to have goals.
To create things.
To have relationships.
But none of that would be possible without the land.
Whatever country,
City,
Land you find yourself in,
I'd like to invite you to take a moment to connect.
To see if there is gratitude in your heart that you'd like to share with this land.
Thank you,
Land.
Thank you for your mountains,
For your oceans,
For your rivers,
Your lakes,
Your trees.
Thank you.
Thank you for your stability.
Thank you for your nature,
Your birds,
Your animals.
Thank you for giving me shelter.
Thank you for giving me a place to explore,
To grow,
To make mistakes.
Sometimes it can be easy to forget about you,
But without you there would be no me.
Without you there would be no me.
I'd like to invite you to take a moment and connect with the land and just reflect on how important and how much value this land,
This incredible planet provides all of us.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Taking a deep breath here together,
Breathing in.
Looking at the top,
Letting it all go.
This land that many of us call home,
Wherever it happens to be on the planet,
Is truly integral to our happiness and to our existence.
And this land for tens of thousands of years before us has been inhabited by indigenous humans who were caretakers,
Stewards.
And without them this land would not be what it is now.
And these indigenous humans are still here and are still crucial and important parts of this land.
With this last song in our meditation,
I just want to open up some space for you and I to reflect and feel and connect with the energy of the indigenous people,
Of the land you happen to find yourself in this morning.
And again,
If you are indigenous to the land,
Connect with your ancestors.
I'm going to stay quiet and I'll meet you at the end of this song.
R You You You You You You You Let's take a moment to land back in our bodies in our hearts in our seats Wherever you went however open or resistant you were to our meditation practice this morning I am so grateful.
We got this time together as Always if you are joining us live at the artists morning I'm gonna put 20 minutes on the clock and invite you to do some private personal journaling You're catching us on a replay perhaps on insight timer You can do the same put some time on your clock and just explore what's here and real and accessible one potential journaling prompt could be Just an exploration of if there's anything your heart wants to say share ask of the land and the indigenous people of the land just be open could be anything from gratitude to celebration to an apology to a question You're open to it.
