Meditation : Old Keys Do Not Unlock New Doors
Let's meditate! This 15 minute guided visualization helps one to embody the idea that we have within ourselves, the key to our own success. After a short introduction you will be asked to find a comfortable position that you can relax into. The body slows down as well as the breath. You will then use the mind's eye to envision a room and a locked door. Remembering the statement, "Old keys do not unlock new doors." can you discover the key you need? We end the practice together acknowledging the fact that old beliefs, habits and programs do not allow us to move forward into newness but keep us tethered to the same repetitious cycle we may wish to be free from.

Hello sweet beings.
Today we are going to work with the idea or the quote that old keys do not unlock new doors.
I really love this saying.
I'm not sure who originally said it.
I know it's used lots and lots throughout our culture but it's such a great saying because it helps to remind us how important it is to build a new belief system,
To build new habits,
To expand our own mind.
Because when we don't we are just replicating all of the things over and over and over.
We get into a very repetitious cycle and sometimes it can be a really toxic repetitious cycle.
The way that we move in the world is often from habits and beliefs and programs that we've learned through our younger years.
They're often things that we did not choose ourselves but instead took on from those who are around us or in our environment.
And so we're going to do a little bit of a guided meditation around this idea.
The bigger idea here is to exercise new ways of thinking,
New belief systems,
Breaking boundaries,
Building new habits over and over through repetition.
So feel free to do this meditation as often as you'd like.
I want you to start getting comfortable.
I want you to be comfortable in your body and when we do a seated attentive meditation with the breath I usually have you seated but maybe this one becomes a little more relaxing on the back or on the side against a wall.
Invite yourself into that place of relaxation,
Whatever that means to you.
Sometimes it means flipping the palms up or down.
Sometimes we need to get a little wiggle.
Sometimes we need to move the body before we actually settle into stillness.
So feel free to do that.
Feel free to move the head or the jaw or the eyes blink open and closed.
You can even squeeze them really tight and then just softly close them or find a nice gaze at the floor or you could do it at the ceiling as well as long as your eyes aren't really wandering around.
I know for me to close my eyes helps me to visualize things kind of in that internal internal slate or in the mind's eye and if that's so maybe the eyes close here.
Let's just take a big breath together.
So I want you to take a big inhale and a big exhale.
So as we begin this meditation together I just want you to begin by paying attention to your breath.
Notice the breath come in and out of the body.
It might slow down a bit now that the body is still.
Maybe it works that you can begin to circulate that breath in and out of the nose.
And as you're paying attention to your breath I want you to imagine that you've moved from the place that you're in wherever you are you've moved into a room with a locked door.
And I want you to imagine that this room that you're in paying attention to your breath.
It's cluttered,
It's full of all of the things in your life right now.
It could be full of people,
It could be full of actual physical things.
You might use symbolism so if you're struggling with something you might use an object to symbolize that struggle.
You might notice that the air is filled with emotion or energy and maybe that energy feels really light and happy and perhaps the energy feels full of anxiety or worry or fear.
Just notice the things in your life with you in this closed and locked room.
Look around and notice how your body feels in this room.
And if you happen to be claustrophobic just reminding yourself that this is just a picture in your mind and that at any time you can come out of it.
But imagining you're here with all of the things that are showing up currently in your life.
Imagine the money that you have,
Imagine the relationships you have,
The career,
The job.
They're somehow there with you in the room even if it's just a picture on the wall representing those things.
I want you to notice again how this room is making you feel.
How does your body feel inside of this room closely related to all of these things that are very much showing up in your world.
And then I want you to imagine,
Imagine that you could shift some of these things.
Imagine that you could change a career or you could change or shift or amend a relationship.
I want you to imagine that you could build a place of happiness here in your mind's eye but it's on the other side of that locked door.
I want you to imagine all of the things that you dream about,
All of the things that you desire,
They're on the other side of this door that happens to be locked inside of your room.
And if you look over by the door you'll notice at the base,
At the very bottom,
There's a basket and in that basket is a collection of keys.
I want you to go to the door.
I want you to pick up the basket and I want you to try to start putting these keys in the lock of the door and see if they fit.
Wiggle them around,
Turn them upside down.
These keys in this room with you,
They represent your current beliefs and your habits.
They represent the things that you do on a daily basis,
The thoughts that you have,
The actions that you take.
These keys,
They are old and they have produced the things that are in this room with you.
They have opened doors to create this very space with the collection of things and people and relationships and careers.
These are the old keys and you might notice as you go through that none of these keys fit this new door.
You can wiggle and you can flip them upside down and you can try and try again but none of these keys,
None of these past habits and beliefs,
These past thoughts and habitual actions were meant to open this door because old keys do not unlock new doors.
So I want you to put all the keys back in the basket and then slowly push the basket aside and then I want you to take a seat in front of that door for a moment.
The door that is locked in this room of your life and I want you to turn your palms upward as you as you sit.
Come back to noticing the breath.
With palms upward I want you to ask yourself what is the key to unlocking this door?
What is this key to unlocking the door of your dreams and your desires,
Your passion and your most happy authentic life?
Sometimes the key is a shift in our belief system.
Sometimes the key is taking a very important step in our lives.
Sometimes the key is shifting our thoughts or our attitude and the beauty is that you know,
You know the answer.
So ask yourself again what is the key to unlocking this door?
And I want you to imagine that as you sit here in front of the door an actual physical key starts to form in that upturned palm.
And the clearer you get on the steps that you have to take in order to unlock this door of your dreams the more concrete that key becomes in your palm.
What is the key to unlocking the door of your dreams,
Your passions,
Your most ideal life?
Let it come as intuition,
As a new and perhaps organic thought.
See it in an action that you might have to take,
A person that you might have to reach out to.
And then as this key forms in your hand I want you to curl your fingers around.
I want you to feel its edges,
Feel its crispness.
And then let's do this together.
Take that key and start to unlock that door.
Place the key in its slot and give it a turn.
As you feel the unlocking of the door we might take the other hand and turn the knob and pull it open.
And I want you to notice what there is to notice.
I want you to see your dreams on the other side of that threshold.
I want you to see your most authentic self and your most authentic life.
Let your heart fill with gratitude,
Wonder,
Love.
And or maybe if you're ready I want you to take a step over that threshold into the life of your dreams.
And if at any point you're just not ready you can bring yourself back to the other side of that door.
You can sit down,
You can close the door,
You can even lock the door.
But now you hold the key.
You hold the key to unlocking that door,
That opportunity to live the life of your dreams.
Remember that.
You hold the key.
And whether you're on the inside of that door or the other side of the threshold,
Take one moment to smile and take a moment to feel gratitude radiating from your heart space.
And then take a deep breath in with me,
Big inhale.
Let it go.
Old keys,
My friends,
And beliefs and habits,
Daily routines and thoughts,
They do not unlock new doors.
As a matter of fact,
They keep us stuck in a very repetitious cycle of living the same thing over and over and over again.
Take the step.
Use that key.
Thank you so,
So deeply for being with me today.
From my heart to yours.
Namaste.
