
Inner Peace - Releasing Attachment & Negative Thought Forms
Setting our intentions to make inner peace our top priority in life, we release over-attachment to material and sensory desires, letting go into the flow of the universe. We then visualize ourselves sitting beside a forest steam, and releasing what holds us back, as leaves upon the river.
Transcript
Thanks for showing up today and joining this practice.
I appreciate you being here with me as we sit with the intention of letting go of our worldly anxieties and coming into harmony with our innate inner peace.
Please find a comfortable position where you won't be interrupted,
Preferably sitting down,
But lying down is fine too.
The most important thing is that you keep your spine straight.
If you're sitting up,
Feel your sit bones firmly pressing against your seat and imagine a string attached to the very tip of your head pulling you lightly upward.
Imagine that string is cut and rest gently down here,
Keeping your chin slightly tucked.
If you're lying down,
You want to make sure your chin is tucked too.
Just ensure your head's not tilted back,
Creating a bend in your neck.
You want to keep your spine straight all the way up.
And just lock this position in.
Feeling balance and steadiness here.
As we step away from our physical bodies,
Let your eyes fall gently closed.
Now let's take a couple of big relaxing breaths here.
Start with an inhalation,
Filling yourself all the way up and hold this breath at the top.
Take a couple extra sips in through your mouth if you can and hold.
Now release.
And now again,
Big breath in all the way up.
Hold it.
And release.
Alright now just let your breath fall back into its normal rhythm.
In through your nose and back out through your nose.
Make an effort to observe it without controlling anything about the process.
Feel the cool air at the tip of your nose and find a point there to focus the whole of your attention onto.
Stick with the sensations as you breathe in and breathe out.
And if you realize your attention is drifted,
Just bring yourself gently back to the sensations at the tip of your nose.
Often we will unconsciously place our attention and focus on hopes of achieving success in superficial ways.
We can sometimes become distracted,
Chasing instant gratification and sensory pleasures,
Losing sight of what our hearts truly long for.
When we re-center and shift our focus,
Making our intentions clearly aimed towards the attainment of inner peace and happiness,
Without saddling ourselves with specific expectations for the material world,
We empower ourselves to achieve that peace through means of realignment with our own truest nature.
And so let's set this intention now,
Together,
Taking a moment to recognize how our own specific desires for life may have grown to include specific outcomes or the attainment of certain accolades while allowing the importance of our own peace to fall in priority.
And let's change this now,
Firmly stating to ourselves that our first priority is to be happy,
Joyful,
And live in harmony with the flow of life.
We should always remember our passions and dreams.
We should still strive to achieve them,
But our ultimate goal should always be the cultivation and retention of inner peace.
That way we allow the universe to manifest it for us.
And so we set our intentions now on the attainment of inner peace,
Trusting the universe to see us through.
On top of our own lofty goals for material achievement,
We often let anxieties and worries over our past memories or our predictable future plague us,
Keeping us from experiencing the joy of the present moment.
And so I want you to imagine yourself now in a dense grove of trees,
The sun high above only just making it through the heavy canopy.
Birds are chirping.
In the distance,
You hear the sounds of running water,
And you know there is a stream nearby.
You work your way deeper into the woods,
Pushing branches and leaves from your path.
You can hear the crunch of twigs beneath your feet,
And the sound of trickling water grows ever louder.
It's very close now.
You step out into a small clearing,
And you see a brook gently streaming.
Its gentle currents flow steadily,
Peacefully.
I want you to imagine yourself finding a seat beside this brook,
And you notice that the surrounding forest floor is covered in leaves of a variety of colors.
Some are green,
Some are brown,
Some are yellow,
Or even red.
Others are a combination of two or all of these colors.
Now,
I want you to think of something you wish to rid yourself of.
This could be an unhealthy habit,
An anxiety over the future,
It could be a shameful memory,
It could be any mental or emotional construct which is no longer serving you,
Holding you back from proudly embodying your truest self here in the present moment.
With this selected,
Lift the leaf from the forest floor.
Notice what color and shape this leaf is.
Consciously choose to connect yourself.
Consciously choose to connect your mind to this leaf.
Imagine a cord of golden energy stretching from your forehead to the leaf in your hands.
Now impart this leaf with the mental or emotional construct you wish to release yourself of.
Feel it leaving you,
Feel it streaming through the cord of energy.
Let the leaf take it all.
Now set the leaf down onto the gentle water of the stream beside you and let it go.
Watch it float away.
Watch it twirl as it flows with the river's currents and is carried away from you,
Eventually fading into the distance and leaving you in peace.
Now lift another leaf from the forest floor,
Again noticing its shape and color,
And bring to mind something else which you would like to get rid of.
It's great if you can think of specific things,
But if you can't,
It's okay to use generalities.
You can just say,
Everything that's holding me back from becoming my truest self,
Or all that stands between me and true inner peace.
Now again,
Impart this leaf with whatever you've chosen,
Imagining that golden cord of energy coming from your forehead,
Connecting with the leaf.
And completely release.
Let the leaf take it all.
And once you've completely transferred the essence of this mental or emotional construct,
Set the leaf onto the stream and let it float away.
Now take time for yourself here.
If you have more things you'd like to release this way,
Repeat the process on your own.
If you feel clear and have nothing else you can think of,
Just let yourself relax here and breathe in the soothing,
Revitalizing freshness of the forest's air.
I'll return in three minutes.
Finally,
Having set our intentions for inner peace to be our new primary objective in life,
And having let go of thoughts,
Emotions,
Memories,
Or habits that may have been standing in our way,
We come back to our physical bodies,
Carrying this work with us so it may enrich our lives.
Feel your body wherever you left it.
Sense the room around you.
Let yourself stretch or release any tensions that may have built up.
And when you're ready,
Open your eyes.
