For this short meditation,
We're going to hold a vessel in our hands and ask ourselves some gentle questions.
So we're physically grounding into this moment,
And we're going to go to wherever the questions take us as we engage our curious minds.
Start by holding a favorite mug,
Cup,
Glass,
Or other vessel in your hands,
And consider,
What is this vessel filled with?
If it seems empty right now,
Is it still filled with something?
Is it filled with air?
Is it filled with memories?
What has filled this vessel in the past?
What does its fullness mean to you?
As the vessel has been emptied,
What has it nourished?
Is this a vessel that begs to be refilled?
Or does it sit patiently until it is needed again?
Is this a vessel that you use often?
Or does it only appear on special occasions?
Do you wish the vessel were bigger and able to hold more at a time?
Or are you content with the vessel as it is,
Understanding that it can be refilled when the time is right?
If you could fill this vessel with anything in the world to nourish yourself,
What would it be?
If you could fill this vessel with anything in the world to nourish others,
What would it be?
What is this vessel filled with right now?
Is that what you need to nourish yourself,
And thus open up the possibility of nourishing others?
If it's not,
What change could you make with the resources you have on hand to ensure that it is what you need?
When the vessel is filled with what you need,
Take a moment to savor the contents,
Whatever that looks like for you,
And then return to your day or night with a new mental flexibility and openness to the possibilities of the world around you and within you.
