Discipline Births Freedom
Discipline can be described as doing what needs to be done even when we are not feeling it. It truly is a hallmark of excellence, and it is one of the foundational pillars of freedom. What we feel like in any given moment is irrelevant when it comes to doing that which needs to be done to keep calling the good that we desire into our experience. And yet, many individuals give what they feel like or don’t feel like the power to determine what they do or do not do.

Blessings and welcome to the path to freedom.
This amazing path of us awakening to who and what we are.
About us allowing for greater and greater expressions of that who and what to emerge.
And about us allowing for the peace and the joy and the harmony and the abundance and the wholeness and the love and the joy that is inherently within us and that is inherently within each and every single moment to come forth,
To well up,
To erupt from within us with increasing ease and grace.
So the theme for today is discipline births freedom.
And this is something to do with how we move in the world and how we gradually learn to honor our yeses and our intentions in increasing ways.
Because as we are saying yes to growth,
As we're saying yes to expansion,
As we're saying yes to allowing for greater and greater expressions of who and what we are to emerge,
As we're saying yes to venturing into the unknown,
As we're saying yes to leaving the safety and the comfort of our previous small and limited paradigms behind,
As we're saying yes to all of this,
We will be called to do things that we perhaps have not done before or we will be called to do things that we perhaps have done before,
But we will be called to do them in a new way.
And we will be drawn into inspired action.
We will get intuitive hits or inspired hits as to what to do and how to do it and when to do it,
When to act,
When to stop,
When to move,
When to turn,
When to speed up,
When to slow down.
And all these beautiful guidance from that still small voice within us,
That still small voice that forever speaks and whispers words of wisdom and guidance and always in a language and in a way that we can understand.
And for us to keep moving forward,
We need to honor these insights.
We need to honor these,
This guidance as it comes to us,
Which means that we will be called to do new things in an expanded way.
What comes out of this as we begin to realize that we are not in a race and as we begin to realize that we are not in competition with anyone,
As we begin to realize that all of our needs are met,
That everything is working for our good,
That something wonderful is happening in every single moment.
What is birth is a sense of excellence and what excellence means is that whatever we do,
We do to the very best of our ability,
To the very best of our ability.
But as always,
As it is with being human,
As and as it is with having an ego,
Which is not personal in any way,
It's just a structure that has been ingrained in the human consciousness.
And as the ego seeks to keep us from growing,
As the ego seeks to keep us from expanding,
As the ego seeks to keep us from moving forward,
It will serve all kinds of excuses as to why we cannot,
Why we should not,
Why we ought to not move forward.
Excuses such as,
I don't feel like it,
Excuses such as,
I don't know enough or I don't have enough money or I'm too white or I'm too gay or I'm too thin or I'm too Hispanic or I'm too Asian or I am too thin or I'm too fat or I have too much freckles or whatever the case may be.
All these excuses,
I have the wrong parents,
I have the wrong last name,
I don't have enough education,
I don't have enough whatever.
All these excuses.
And so as we come face to face with these excuses,
There will be times when we absolutely do not feel like doing what we have been inspired to do.
Take meditation for instance.
Perhaps you've caught as an insight that you are to expand your meditation practice from being perhaps random once in a while to being irregular,
Perhaps every other day or three times a week or every day.
And so the day has come for you to move into the meditation but you do not feel like it.
There is so many other things that you'd rather engage in.
That new episode on Netflix or that chocolate bar in your fridge or calling your friends or going on social media or you know all these things,
All these excuses,
All these distractions that flow into our consciousness and into our minds.
And when we become aware of these,
We're all being called to lean into discipline.
And discipline as I once heard may be defined as giving ourselves the command and following it.
Or in other words of saying it,
Is that discipline is doing what we need to do to keep moving forward.
And whenever I talk about discipline and the value of it and the virtue of it,
I'm compelled to use an Olympic athlete as an example.
Take an Olympic athlete,
Let's say a swimmer.
This swimmer has set their mind on piquing their performance at the Olympics,
Let's say two years from now.
And so that's their intention,
To peak their performance at the Olympics two years from now.
And so with that intention in mind,
With that goal or that vision in mind,
They lay out a plan.
They lay out a way to get from here,
From where they are right now,
To that day or that brief period during the Olympics in two years.
And perhaps this plan says that they are to practice twice every day.
They're to practice twice every day.
Now,
Do you think if this athlete is serious about their intention,
Is serious about reaching or piquing their performance at the Olympics,
Do you think that if they woke up one day and didn't feel like practice,
Do you think that they would allow the not feeling to hinder them or to keep them from still practicing?
They would not.
But they would stick to their training program,
They would stick to their schedule,
They would stick to their plan as long as it is in alignment with their intention to peak their performance.
And this is,
We have so much to learn and this is discipline.
This is discipline.
Doing what we need to do,
Even when we don't feel like it.
And there's another expression that relates to this that goes something like,
Whatever we feel like is inconsequential.
Because we are constantly pulled this way or that by all these distractions and the human mind,
Most of us have not worked up the strength of our attention muscle to the point where we can stay focused on something for very long.
But we are constantly tossed here and there,
Hither and yon between different points of attractions.
And so we're wise and it really benefits us to begin to strengthen that muscle so that we can keep our attention on one focal point.
And then work up the discipline to keep doing whatever it is that we feel that we need to do in order to get to that point.
So discipline births freedom.
The freedom to go where we want to go.
The freedom to allow for the manifestations and demonstrations of the good that we desire to happen in us and through us.
So that is my invitation to you and to us all that whenever we catch ourselves wanting to skip what we know we need to do and what we in a way have said yes to doing,
That in that moment of catching,
We do it anyway.
We remind ourselves that discipline is doing what we need to do regardless of whether we feel like it or not and we go do it.
All right.
So until the next time,
I bless,
Bless,
Bless your day and I bless,
Bless,
Bless your way.
Beautiful,
Magnificent,
Powerful,
Radiant being.
Namaste.

Such amazing synchronicity today. My oracle card told me "discipline is the key to fulfilling my destiny" and I was unclear about what this means and when I found this short talk along came clarity. Thank you. Now I have to learn to listen to my higher self and that inspired action...
