Is there something that's getting in the way of you going after what you want? Whether that be starting a meditation practice, showing up on social media, embarking on a creative dream, working on your body. Momentum is such a powerful force in getting things done,

But what happens when you are right at the beginning and you're feeling a lot of resistance and you can't quite figure out how to just get started?

When you're in this place,

Finding momentum is really challenging.

So here's a hack in how to just get started.

I would love for you to ask the question to yourself,

If I were to take one step towards what I want,

What would that look like?

Just imagine for a moment,

If you were to get started on the thing that you are holding back on,

What would one micro step look like?

So that could be opening up a fresh piece of paper,

Setting five minutes on a timer to do some research.

Now there may be a thousand steps in order to get this thing done,

But we're only able to do one thing at a time.

The mind often gets overwhelmed with everything that needs to get done,

But in reality we can just do one thing.

So make it as easy as possible for yourself to get started by just taking that first step.

Now a bonus,

Once you take it,

Is to celebrate yourself.

Celebrate that you actually took an action that is getting you closer to where you want to be.

And a celebration can look like a fist pump in the air,

A hug for yourself,

A smile,

And that sends dopamine to your brain that says,

Oh this is a good thing.

Now the beautiful part,

The way we create momentum is by rinsing and repeating,

Doing it over and over again.

So once you take that first step,

Okay,

What would the next step be?

If you were to go forward,

What would that next step be?

Now if you were to do that,

Celebrate it,

Now you're starting to build momentum.

So if you're feeling stuck right now,

If there's something that you want to create,

Something that you want to build,

Something that you want to start doing in your life,

Ask yourself this one question.

If I were to go for it,

What would the first step be?

And watch what happens.

Wow. What a little gem this is… It takes away, any overwhlem, anxiety and procrastination that can literally, freeze my body and mind on a regular basis. My ADD mind, as a single, working, mother, is one I’m learning to navigate & The simplicity of this, mixed with the encouragement & confidence of your voice, is the key to my new morning mindset. Thank you 🙏🏼

This is such a good idea! I am autistic and very aware of all of the tiny steps that go into an activity and can easily be overwhelmed before starting a task. Sometimes to the point that if i don’t feel I can complete it to my best, i won’t start it. I have had therapists try to get me to embrace “some is better than none”, however, I find it quite unbearable to start a task and not finish it, or to not give it 100%. The idea though to celebrate each small step to give me a boost and build momentum is much more appealing and already i feel like I will be able to achieve more. 🤩 Couple this with the 3 magic words of “I get to” that I also just listened to from you, and here comes a productive day! 😊 Thank you so much!! 🙏

Excellent reminder!! And I liked the step of cheering yourself after it’s done to allow the brain to send that dopamine that makes it feel good and willing to be repeated. Thank you!
