Joshin Kokyūhō Meditation This meditation hails from the Usui Reiki tradition.
However,
If you're not an attuned Reiki practitioner,
You can still feel its beautiful effects.
It works with visualisation and directing energy into the lower Dan Tien,
A centre in the lower body just beneath the navel.
And when energy is sent there and held there with the held breath,
It concentrates.
And then,
On the out-breath,
With your awareness,
You will send that concentrated energy to your hands and your feet.
This practice is best experienced seated,
Upright,
With your back supported and your feet symmetrically and evenly placed on the ground beneath you.
Take a moment to adjust into your seated meditation posture.
Feel your body settle into evenness,
Into stillness.
Ensure a long,
Elegant spine and a tall crown.
And breathe.
Under your awareness,
Your breath will start to ease and deepen and naturally feel more nourishing.
Slow your breaths down and feel an evenness between the pace and the length of your inhalation and your exhalation.
With every breath,
The activity in your mind eases becomes more still.
Feel your whole body participating in the dance with the atmosphere that surrounds your body on the in-breath and the out-breath.
Your whole body breathing.
I want you now to extend your sense of awareness beyond your skin line and into the immediate atmosphere that is surrounding you.
Feel into the energy spinning and weaving in the air that surrounds your body in the space itself.
The whole atmosphere alive and responding to your awareness.
With the in-breath now,
I want you to have the sense that that atmospheric energy is moving towards the space above the crown of your body and accumulating there.
You can see it as a white cloud of energy or perhaps an orb of light becoming more substantial and brighter.
With every breath.
As this energy upon your will concentrates and substantiates above the crown of your head you can sense and ache for this life force to enter your body.
On your next inhalation,
Visualize a stream of pure life-wood energy traveling down the center stream of your body and into the lower dantian swirling and stabilizing within the base of your body.
Hold the breath.
Feel it concentrate.
And now as you exhale,
Use your awareness to lead the energy to hands and feet creating a circuit.
And again,
Breathing down a stream of pure,
Beautiful,
Vital life force into the lower chamber of the body.
Hold the breath.
Feel it concentrate.
And exhale that energy to hands and feet.
And again,
Breathing down this limitless supply of pure life-wood energy into the lower center of your body.
Hold the breath.
Feel it concentrate.
And exhale the energy now knowing to flow to hands and feet through the pathway that you have directed with your awareness.
And continue now in your own timing in this same sequence.
Breathing down life force.
Holding and concentrating.
And breathing it out to hands and feet.
You will be feeling an exaggerated vibration now in the hands and the feet.
Possibly warms.
A lovely sensation of humming under the skin and the scalp.
A gentle clarity and alertness of the mind.
As you summon and direct universal energy throughout your body.
Bringing your hands together now in prayer position in front of the chest.
With the contact of the two palms and the fingertips you will be able to much more easily feel the heat that you've generated.
Continue with the Joshin Kokyu Ho breathing.
However on the exhalation now,
Just send the energy to your hands in prayer position.
Breathing down the atmospheric life force into the lower belly.
Hold.
And exhaling the energy to the hands.
With each exhalation you will feel a subtle surge of sensation in the prayer mudra.
Placing your right hand now over the heart centre on the chest and your left hand over your belly.
And feel that concentration of energy immediately diffuse into your body as warms.
Receive that soothing expression of universal life force.
Nourishing your body,
Your mind,
Your heart,
Your spirit.
Hold.
Receive.
Releasing the hands from the chest and the belly now,
Allow them to rest on your legs naturally.
And just take a moment to observe how you feel now compared to when you started this beautiful practice of Joshin Kokyu Ho.
More relaxed.
At ease.
Clear.
Aware.
And take a moment to acknowledge what a dazzling being you are who can summon,
Direct and concentrate the energy of the universe.
Bringing your attention back to your physical body now and your natural breath.
Become aware of this space that immediately surrounds you.
Become aware of the time,
The day.
And our practice of Joshin Kokyu Ho is now complete.
