Ahh,
The breath,
What a gift!
Welcome to a practice of breath exercises with Yogic Pranayama.
This practice is suitable for all levels.
You can begin by simply sitting or lying down in any comfortable position and just observe your breath without trying to control.
Just observe.
And as you breathe in and out,
Relax your body and mind.
Accept the breath as the gift of life.
And as you continue breathing in and out,
Let go of any tensions,
Worries,
Anxiety of your day.
And just stay present and focused.
Observing the breath,
Calming and going,
Like a leaf flying with the wind,
Like waves in the sea.
You'll notice how you can focus your awareness.
So your external world will fade in the periphery.
Feel your breath as a wave of energy that fills your body with light and a feeling of calm and peace.
As you inhale,
You feel full.
As you exhale,
You feel empty.
Inhale as the light shines all around.
Exhale and darkness void.
Inhaling as the day starts.
Exhale when the night begins.
And between each inhale and each exhale,
It's a gap.
With your full lungs,
A gap.
With empty lungs,
Another small gap.
And now,
Swift your awareness from the inhalation and exhalation to those gaps between each breath.
Right the point between one wave and another wave,
One cloud and another cloud,
One day after the other.
Inhaling,
Small gap.
Exhale,
Another small gap.
The goal of pranayama is to expand those gaps,
The time of void,
To find the balance between the right and the left brain,
Sympathetic and parasympathetic systems,
Merging into that midline,
Improving the function of your central nervous system and awakening the energy center of Sushumna Nadi,
The home of Kundalini energy.
Through that merge of dualities,
Finding peace,
Silence,
Void.
Inhale,
A small gap.
Exhale,
Another small gap.
And now let go of those gaps,
Let go of the awareness of this place of Kumbhaka and Shunyak.
And feel your breath expanding and contracting your abdomen.
As you inhale,
Belly out.
Exhale,
Belly in.
Inhale,
Belly out.
Exhale,
Belly in,
In abdominal breathing.
Abdominal breathing is very beneficial for you.
It helps to relax the mind,
To calm down the central nervous system,
To feel more whole,
Healthy and free.
Inhale deeply,
Expanding the belly out.
Exhale,
Fully contracting the belly in.
Like a balloon,
Like a sponge that expands when the water enters and contracts as you squeeze the water out.
Just that.
Breathing in,
Breathing out through the belly.
And notice how this energy is expanding,
Brighter,
Bigger,
Wider.
And you can almost feel like a tingling sensation throughout your body.
You're becoming completely energized.
And your conscious mind is at rest.
So to merge into the universal consciousness,
In this state you're more aware of the invisible realms.
You can listen to that inner silence,
The songs of your heart.
And as you breathe and relax this way,
If you can read and listen to any message from your higher self,
From the invisible realms or guides,
Allow this message to become clear and louder.
As you continue merging into that universal consciousness,
Just as a spoon of sugar dissolves into a cup of water,
Or a drop of rain falling,
Merging into the infinite oceans.
As you continue to focus on your breath,
Expanding and contracting,
Feeling your whole body vibrating with that beautiful energy,
Visualize that as you breathe in and out,
You breathe pure white light.
So you inhale,
Expand in that white light.
And as you exhale,
That white light shines,
Vibrates all around you,
Creating a protective shell around your physical and energetic bodies.
And this white light feels really good,
Feels amazing.
It's so warm and pleasant,
And can protect you,
Heal and rejuvenate.
So allow yourself to be bathed in this light.
Allow this light to penetrate every part of your body,
Every cell,
Every atom of your existence.
This is a powerful light that guides you,
Cocoons you,
So you feel safe and protected.
If you like,
It can add a rhythm to your breath,
Adding a rhythm to your breath.
If you wish,
You can follow me.
As you inhale,
Counting 1,
2,
3,
4,
And exhale 4,
3,
2,
1.
Continue that way.
If 4 counts is too easy for you,
You can increase the count for 5,
6,
Or even longer,
Adding a rhythm to your breath,
Honouring the rhythm of creation,
The constant heartbeat,
The cycles of day and night,
The seasons and tides,
The dhammaru,
The drum of Lord Shiva.
Find your rhythm.
Attune with that rhythm.
Inhaling,
Counting 1 time,
Exhale the same count.
Now once again let go of that count,
Let go of your breath,
The awareness of breath.
And just once again observe the natural flow of the air coming in and out through your nostrils.
And see if you can notice how when you inhale,
The air passes a little bit cooler,
As when you exhale,
The air touches your nostril a little bit warmer.
Inhale cooler,
Exhale warmer.
Inhale cooler,
Exhale warmer.
See if you can notice now,
Each nostril,
The air is flowing a little more free.
Is it the right or is it the left?
If you're not sure,
You can block the right nostril and breath in and out through your left.
And notice how the breath is flowing through your left nostril.
Then block in the left nostril.
Inhale and exhale through the right.
Notice the flow of the breath on your right nostril.
We're going to do an exercise to harmonize the function of the nostrils that are connected with the right and left brain.
First with the right hand thumb,
Block your right nostril.
And simply inhale and exhale through the left.
As you inhale and exhale through the left nostril,
You're activating the right side of your brain.
The lunar nadi,
The female receptive moon,
Parasympathetic system,
The feelings of relaxation and rest.
The only thing that's left is the outermost owner in the left side.
And if you like,
Visualize the beautiful blue light that shines through your left nostril as you inhale and exhale.
And out through the left nostril only.
Maybe you want to add a rhythm to your breath as well.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four on the inhale,
Four,
Three,
Two,
One on your exhale.
And again,
Find your own breath,
Your own rhythm.
Let go of that breath,
Let go of your nostrils.
Now let go of that breath and still with your right hand block your left nostril.
Inhale and exhale deeply and pleasantly through the right.
The right side of your body ruled by the left side of the brain,
The solar nadi,
Pingala nadi,
The feelings of heat,
Activity,
Sympathetic system.
Breathing in and breathing out and maybe you want to visualize a yellow light shining as you breathe,
Energizing the right side of your body.
And then adding a rhythm to that breath just like you did on the opposite side.
Find your breath,
Find your rhythm.
So finally let go of that breath as well.
Release your hand,
Relaxing both hands over your knees.
And once again just observe the normal breathing.
Nothing to do,
Just enjoy this moment to nurture yourself.
To listen,
To feel,
To dissolve,
To let go and just be.
Ahh,
The breath,
What a gift.
Thank you for taking the time to honor your breath,
To take a time for relax.
The practice of breath exercise or yogic pranayama is complete for today.
Thank you,
Thank you.
Until next Tuesday,
Hari Om Tat Sat.
Thank you.
Thank you.
