This meditation is a gentle letting go of the day followed by a visualisation in which you will be released into sleep. Often throughout the day tension builds up and needs releasing and the mind struggles to switch off while it is still holding on to attachments. By focusing on the present and letting go of all attachments we give the body and mind permission to enter deep sleep. Includes a powerful and vivid visualisation.

Transcript

Gently moving into your preferred sleeping position and just becoming aware of your breath.

Just allow the breath to rise and fall.

Notice the sensations of breathing.

Just seeing how much the body is willing to relax at this time.

Do not try to force the body to relax.

The body will relax in its own time in its own way.

Just be aware of the sensations in the body.

And see if it's willing to begin letting go,

Releasing tension.

And pay special attention to any areas of the body that are a little tight,

A little stiff.

As you breathe deeply,

Just breathe into those areas.

See if that dense heaviness can just start to dissolve.

There is no rush or hurry to relax.

And there is no rush or hurry to fall asleep.

It is perfectly relaxing and restful just to take this time to be aware of the breath.

To be aware of bodily sensations.

And just noticing this present moment.

The day is over.

So just be aware of now.

There is nothing more to do.

There is nothing to change.

There is nobody you have to be now.

You can let go.

The day is fully resolved.

It's time to just let the day go.

Observing the day disappearing into the distance.

Like a wake trailing behind a ship.

There is a trace that stays a while,

And then simply dissolves into the rest of the ocean.

So too,

The day has been and gone.

The residues of the day may remain in the body for a little while.

But soon,

Even those residues will dissolve back into the ocean of being.

So just dissolve into this ocean of being now.

Nothing to be done.

If you find it's a challenge to switch off from the mind,

Just return to the sensations of breathing.

With a sense of just gently placing your awareness on the breath.

And just keep your awareness there.

Allow awareness to rest on the breath.

There is nothing left to think about today.

So just let attention rest upon the breath.

Perfectly safe to do so now.

All is safe.

All is well.

Continuing to allow the body to just dissolve,

Release tension,

Let go of tightness and heaviness.

Just a softening can begin to happen.

And allowing the mind to just run down,

Run down.

Withdraw your attention away from the mind.

It's not necessary now.

And instead,

Just staying with the breath.

And moving into a space of being that is conducive to sleep.

But there is no rush or hurry to fall asleep.

It's perfectly relaxing and restful to just be as you are now.

Continuing to let go.

As we do not need to take anything with us into sleep.

Sleep is an open and empty space.

Perfectly peaceful,

Perfectly serene.

And so we can begin to just let go of everything.

And to help us let go of everything.

We will visualize a door.

Just imagine you are in front of a door now.

And this door appears differently to everyone.

However the door appears to you.

Just visualize this door.

And on the other side of this door is a perfect deep sleep.

And there are some things that we simply cannot take through.

This door with us.

Even if we tried to sneak something through,

The door will make it dissolve the moment we stepped through.

So we're going to take these things off before we step through the door.

Firstly,

Your name.

Your first name,

Your last name,

Your middle name.

Any titles or anything that anybody calls you by.

Just taking this off now.

Finding it's as simple and easy as taking off a name badge.

Just take all of your names off.

And place them by the side of the door.

Just like placing shoes on a shoe rack.

Just outside of the door.

So all names taken off.

Next,

Any numbers that you feel represent you in some way or say something about you.

Your age,

Your height,

Your weight,

Your salary,

Phone number.

These are just symbols.

They may measure something,

Or point to something,

But ultimately they are just imaginary symbols.

So pulling all of these numbers off of you now.

And placing them by the side of the door.

And we won't be needing any sense of the past or the future on the other side of the door.

Those things simply cannot come through with us.

So we can take off all of our ideas and imaginations about the past and the future now.

Simply remove them.

And place them by the side of the door.

And with the past and the future.

Take the entire story of you.

All of the events so far.

All of the ups and downs.

The past jobs,

Past relationships.

The entire story up until this point.

It's like a big story book.

Let's just close that book now.

There is no need for any stories or narratives in sleep.

So let's simply close that book.

The entire story of you.

Closing the book.

Take it out of your mind.

And place it by the side of the door.

And we do not need the body in deep sleep either.

We do not experience a body in sleep.

So even this can be simply taken off and left by the side of the door.

Just like taking off some tight clothes.

Maybe a tight belt buckle.

A tight shirt or a tight shirt.

Or tight shoes.

You know how it feels to release this tight clothing.

Take it off and leave it by the side of the door.

Do this now but with the body.

The entire body.

Tight and claustrophobic.

Just loosen the body.

Remove it.

And place it by the side of the door.

So with all of these things taken off and let's be thorough about this.

Names.

Titles.

Numbers and symbols.

The past and the future.

The entire story of you.

And the body also.

All of these things now simply removed from your being.

We can pick them all back up again in the morning if we wish.

But just for this time all of these things safely taken off and left to the side.

And standing in front of the door now.

Step through.

Nothing.

Nothing.

Nothing.

If anything made it through the door with you just notice how easy it is to let this go immediately.

All of these things are illusions anyway so just keep letting go.

And expand now.

There's no body,

No story,

No mind.

Just being.

So just expand,

Dissolve.

Lightness.

Emptiness.

Fullness.

Freedom.

Nothing.

Nothing.

Nothing.

Release.

Release.

Release.

Hold on to nothing.

Attach to nothing.

Be empty.

Let go.

Nothing to be done.

Being transparent.

Empty,

Formless.

Nothing ever happened.

Nothing could ever happen.

Nothing happening now.

Nothing.

Nothing.

Nothing.

Released of all burdens.

Resting as the true self.
