Hi friend,
As a college student living in this intense isolation period,
You may find yourself struggling with loneliness.
And really,
Scrolling social media forever won't help at all.
But this meditation might.
Start by sitting comfortably.
You can also lie down.
Close your eyes.
I like to start by placing a smile on your face,
To make your face more relaxed and welcoming.
Press in.
Press out.
Now let's start to deal with loneliness.
Try to enter your body and really notice how are you feeling.
If you experience loneliness,
You might have some body reactions associated with it.
So try to answer this question for you.
If you listen to yourself,
How does the loneliness feel like?
Some people are experiencing a heavy feeling in the stomach,
Or a feeling of emptiness or aching in the chest.
What does loneliness feel like to you?
You don't need to start dealing with the loneliness just yet.
Simply experience it.
Notice what it is like.
Loneliness is an unpleasant sensation.
But stay with it for a few more moments.
Observe it.
Try to see where it starts,
Where it stops.
You do not need to deal with loneliness yet.
Just notice the feeling.
The body is your guide.
Always.
This lonely feeling you are experiencing can be a signal.
A signal that you have needs that are not being met right now.
Your mind is speaking to you through this feeling,
Telling you that something needs to change,
Whether it is your situation,
Your vibration or your dynamic.
Let's try to hear that notification and get rid of it.
Concentrate on the loneliness,
On the aching,
Empty feeling inside.
And now imagine that feeling shifting just slightly.
Imagine a feeling of peace,
Joy,
Ecstasy.
Picture this feeling as if it is a warm liquid or a rainbow light.
Imagine that the liquid can fill your body,
Pouring in through the top of your head,
Passing through the chest,
Your belly,
Your arms,
Your legs,
Up to the end of the toes.
It's so warm and pleasant.
Stay with that feeling while we explore some actions you might take to break isolation.
There are really two solutions to deal with loneliness.
Both of these remedies are available to you.
You can use both without having to choose one or the other.
One is to increase the connections and contact you have with others.
It might not be easy in this period of lockdown,
But remember it is very important to have physical contact sometimes because it generates what is called serotonin.
Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that will dissolve all the pain associated with loneliness in your body.
That's why it's important to have that physical contact.
The other way to deal with loneliness is to have a positive relationship with yourself and appreciate your own company.
As a student,
You are usually always surrounded by other people,
At least during classes.
But now that because of the circumstances you are alone,
Try to develop this idea that you can be happy and content by yourself without feeling lonely.
Because actually,
Nothing is missing when you are by yourself.
You are perfectly alright by yourself.
Surprise!
You actually do not need anyone else to be happy.
If you can feel like that,
Loneliness will certainly be easier to handle.
It's time to conclude this relaxation exercise.
Keep with you the feelings of contentment and peace as you reawaken your body and mind.
Gradually return to full alertness.
Stretch your muscles,
Feeling your body waking up.
Take a deep cleansing breath in and as you breath out,
Become more awake and alert.
Be happy.
