One way to heighten your awareness and practice living in the present moment is to become more mindful of your body. Being present leads to heightened levels of energy, decreased emotional distress or exhaustion, and can even make you feel happier. In this session, we practice mindfulness by focusing on individual parts of the body including the muscles or any tension under the skin. Bring awareness to your body in this present moment! Transcript

Hello and welcome.

Let's take a couple minutes to be present.

Through living in the present,

We can decrease mental chatter and increase awareness.

The past has already happened and the future is undetermined.

All we have is right now.

Take a comfortable position and let's do a quick body scan.

First,

Bring awareness to where your body is touching a surface.

Whether that be the ground,

A chair,

A pillow.

Focus on where your body is touching any surface.

Now let's go through the body.

Start with your face and head.

Notice all the muscles around your eyes,

In your cheeks,

Around your mouth.

Bring awareness to your full head and if there's any areas of tension,

Allow them to relax.

Next,

Bring some awareness to your neck and shoulders,

Relaxing those muscles and easing any tension.

Then make your way down to your chest,

Feeling it rise and fall with your breath.

Maybe you bring some awareness to your heartbeat.

Slow it down to your arms and hands.

Bring awareness to every muscle in your upper and lower arms.

Now feel your upper body relax as you make your way to your center of gravity in your solar plexus.

Feel this area rise as your breath reaches your lower lungs.

Feel your back and bring awareness to the entire lower part of your abdomen.

Now bring some awareness to your glutes and upper thighs.

Feel these muscles and allow them to relax.

Now make your way down to your knees and your calves,

Bringing awareness to all and end with your feet.

Feeling each toe in the bottom of your heel.

Now try to bring awareness to the entire body.

You have done an amazing job being present in this moment.

Now take these last few seconds for some cleansing breaths and have a wonderful day.
