Here's a few minutes to reconnect with truth from a three principles perspective.

So why isn't expectation the truth?

It's really simple actually.

It's because expectation is a thought,

Particularly a thought about the future,

A thought of should.

An idea that we should be further on than we are,

That we shouldn't have done this or that,

That we should have made a better decision here,

There and everywhere.

Can you hear the future and the past in those thoughts?

And when we believe thoughts like that,

We feel the tension of that in our bodies,

Don't we?

Because if we're believing a thought of expectation,

It really sounds like that's right,

That we should be further on or we shouldn't have done this,

That and the other.

And when we dive into believing those thoughts,

That's when stress really arises.

So when we're reflecting on this idea of expectation,

Compassion is so important.

We all have those kinds of thought.

But I guess what I'm pointing to here is,

Can we loosen the grip of needing to believe them?

Can we start to be a little kinder to ourselves?

Can we see that those thoughts of expectation are often harsh?

I would say they're probably another voice of the inner critic.

And the way we can do this with ease is by noticing what is arising in the body when we believe those thoughts.

Can you notice that when you believe one of those thoughts of expectation,

That there is tension in the body?

There is tightness,

There's cramping.

It doesn't feel good.

That's your body's gift to you.

Always,

Your body is gifting you with these beautiful little love letters to let you know that right now you're believing something that isn't true.

You're believing a stressful expectation thought.

What you're believing isn't fact,

It's just something that the mind has made up.

When we believe our thoughts of expectation,

We tend to always be chasing the next thing,

The next goal,

The next action.

But I encourage you now,

When you notice those feelings in your body,

When you notice those thoughts of expectation,

To just pause for a moment.

Just remind your system that it's okay to stop chasing and to simply be,

Even if only for a few breaths,

A few moments of breathing in and out and noticing that.

Allow those feelings to be there in your body.

Know that they are a beautiful gift for you.

And notice what comes up when you've paused,

When you've stopped pushing and shoving and hustling your way through life.

Probably just one next simple action.
