Here's a few minutes to reconnect with truth from a three principles perspective.
And today we're talking about discouragement.
We've all experienced it at some point,
Haven't we?
I think one of the places I've probably seen it show up the most in the last few years is in my business.
I've definitely had some of those days where it just feels like I should give up and go get a job.
And we've all experienced that,
Haven't we?
Whether it's in a business,
In a relationship,
In a job,
Or just in some project that you're involved in at the moment.
It's like the mind has an idea about how far we should have got by a particular point,
Which of course is completely and utterly made up.
The voice of discouragement says,
You've not done enough,
You've not got far enough,
You should be further on by now.
And all those other phrases that seem to have should laced into them somewhere.
The thing about discouragement is that of course,
It is thought.
It's not a sign that you're failing.
It's a sign that you've got some thinking that says you're failing and that's just not the same thing.
Discouragement can really make us not want to go on.
It can seem like as a result of it,
Our resilience has gone and we can't keep going.
But discouragement really is just evidence of busy thought,
Not of failure.
I remember once hearing a Three Principles teacher describe how resilience was like a rope around your middle,
With some magical force just always moving you forward.
And you may have noticed that as those discouraging thoughts fall away,
That ability to move forward is still there.
It never ever goes away.
Presence and resilience remain untouched by our discouraging thinking.
And I invite you to notice this,
To notice that this quiet is still there.
That might mean that you need to take a break,
Perhaps go for a walk,
Take a breath,
Have a pause of some description,
Perhaps do something that just feels good in the moment.
Because once your mind starts to settle,
Your discouraging thoughts will just seem like the most ridiculous thing in the world and you will be able to move on.
As I say,
I've noticed this so many times in my business.
Perhaps I'm in a lone mood anyway,
Perhaps I'm tired or perhaps I've just had some kind of rejection,
Perhaps a client who said they were going to work with me and then they didn't.
And I noticed how caught up I got.
And then as time went on,
Maybe not too much time actually,
That would settle.
Because thought is always moving,
It's not a static thing.
It's always changing.
It's always moving through us.
I just love the weather metaphor for this.
Discouragement is just weather.
It's just a passing storm.
But you are the sky.
And the sky is that resilience,
Creativity and wisdom that you always have access to.
Underpinned of course by the beautiful feeling of calm.
I really hope this has helped you and if you're feeling a little bit discouraged today,
You might find that I've got some other content on here that's helpful.
Take care,
Lots of love and thank you so much for listening.
