This gentle talk offers a clear reminder that control never creates peace. From a 3 Principles perspective, feelings come from thought in the moment, not from circumstances. You will be invited to see why control is exhausting, why it never works, and how peace, love, and wisdom are uncovered when the grip softens. A short but powerful reframe.

Here's a few minutes to reconnect with truth from a three principles perspective.

Here's a confession.

I would categorise myself as a recovering control freak,

And I say that in a light-hearted way,

And not to offend,

But for a long time for me control looked like safety.

It really looked like if I could just get all the heads on the whack-a-mole to stay down that I would be okay,

But all that created was an awful lot of stress in my life,

And if you've listened to me before you'll know that that eventually led to a quite significant burnout,

A burnout that left me not able to work for a whole year.

The thing is,

All of the idea that controlling things is going to make you feel better just comes from a misunderstanding really,

And if we look at control through a three principles lens,

We see that thought creates feelings,

Not outcomes,

So where we're trying to control the world and trying to get to certain outcomes,

Perhaps that's an outcome in a business or a career or a relationship,

It really can look like if we just got that thing to be right,

Of course right in inverted commas,

Then we would be okay,

But in actual fact that's not true,

Because it's our thinking about those circumstances that creates our feelings,

Not the circumstances themselves.

Control really cannot ever deliver the peace that we're looking for,

It's just not possible,

First of all because it's not there,

Peace isn't something that you achieve,

It's almost something that you remember really,

So that's the first thing,

And second of all as you're trying really hard to create peace in the outside world,

You just make your head,

Your life and everything really,

Really busy,

And I don't think busyness is in any way synonymous with peace to you,

So the thing I want to leave you with now is the idea that this peace that we're all seeking,

Because as human beings that is our driver to feel peaceful,

To feel happy,

To feel content,

That that is available to you right now in this present moment as you rest in a space with maybe a little bit less on your mind,

It is in those moments of pure presence that we settle into peace and suddenly our circumstances don't seem to matter as much,

You may have noticed moments like that yourself,

So there is a futility to control,

Peace is not out there,

It is within you and it really is never more than a breath away.

I really hope you found it helpful to listen to this three principles perspective,

If you have then please do check out some of my other content,

There's a lot of it here on Insight Timer or come and join me in one of my live sessions,

Take care,

Lots of love and thank you so much for being here with me.
